"MORE THAN A FEELING" boston

Council had a work session Monday evening and council as well as the administration believe we have an emergency situation on Bank St. I tend to agree. The solution will be something called "Soil Nail"
They will drive nails into the side of the embankment and fill with a mesh screen that will hold dirt and vegetation. This project for approximatly 150 feet will cost $173,000.00 we have applied the Ohio Public Works  Commission for a grant with Painesville paying a $75,000 match. We learned that Painesvilles request was rejected and we will spend the $150,000 in road funds on this project and look to find the other $23,000 from some other fund. So zero road repair in Painesville this year. If they do do these repairs on Bank St. I hope they have the common sense to close this road to thru truck traffic.
Council will consider a road levy to be put on the November ballot for roads & sewers possible a 4 mil. levy that would cost the homeowner of a $100,000 home $140.00 more a year in property taxes this amount would generate $900,000  a year for roads and sewers this levy would have to be renewed every 5 years. The council might ask for 2,or 3 mils. instead if it would be easier for residents to buy into their plan. Nothing presently is set in stone. and it will be up to residents to explain their wishes to council.
I heard so much tonight I'm still trying to understand why and why not you can't do things. The city manager claims we won't save money by laying off people it will affect the budget next year?
One goal of the POC was to find ways to save Painesville money . Some on the POC went and asked for bids to do the landscaping at the two cemeteries in town. I believe using the cities figures we could save as much as $200,000 on this alone. No, that comes out of fund 204 and short of going to court you can"t take funds out of 204 to put into 201 yet all the time we are talking general fund dollars. I guess somethings just can't be fixed without more money?
Also the city would like to repave Mechanics Alley? That's the little alley that runs between St.Clair St. and State St. behind the stores on Main St. I guess the $900,000 we will be spending on Main St. just doesn't cut it.
Citizens will be given the right to comment and also vote on this levy this November. Please help  council they don't seem to know what you want done.
It's more than a feeling resident will be asked for more money this November, and the Painesville City School's have not weighed in yet.

Here's something the city will have to explain to residents on page 9 of the minutes to the April 16,2012 council meeting Finance Director Andy Unitec explained the Street Construction Maintenance and Repair Fund [SCMR} He claimed we received $124,000 worth of revenue in the first quarter of 2012. the simple math is the city will receive close to $500,000 in revenue from this fund. Someone ask the administration where this money has gone?
Also in the 2012 budget the city claims $315,000 was transfered from the General Fund to the Cemetery Fund? Now I was told Monday night you would have to have close to an act of God to transfer money between fund 201 and 204?
Something to ask your councilman?

It's going to cost $173,000 for 150 feet? Are you kidding me? Over $1,000 a foot?! I'll have to get back to ya later on this; right now I'm too outraged to go on.

Oh, wait...maybe I CAN muster one more thought. Let's make sure we keep letting McMahon run this city--the citizens still have a FEW dollars left in their pockets. We need her to stay in office so we can lose the rest.

201 can transfer in to any fund, but no funds can transfer into 201. This has been explained I don't know how many times at meetings...I don't go and even I know that.

4:44 O.k. so keep the funds in 201 next year and higher a landscaping company. Want to bet they won't?
Since your so knowledgeable please what happens to the SCMR money?
7:57 Our city manager would like you to be a responsible citizen and give her more money to screw around with. What are you a troublemaker?
As they say pay the lady!
Still no answer from our Assistant Manager on what finance charges we payed to Prairie States in April or May. 7:57 then you can really blow your top.

Wait...what?
The city wants to repave an alley that nobody uses?

How about sending the steamrollers down to the intersection of Saint Clair and Washington? Or anywhere else BUT the unused alley?

I would like to personally thank all the citizens who voted to keep Hada and his buddies in office. I would also like to thank them for voting in Hada's friends again.

We have had some good people run in recent elections, and in this last election, we had several--John Murphy for one. Yet the people voted to keep this group in office. I don't get it. They have messed up our town and own money (TO PUT IT VERY MILDLY) for years and years now. What they do to us and to our town and money is so horrendous, I cannot believe we have not had investigations--for decades now--but people keep voting them in.

Really, I don't get it, and I would like to ask everyone who keeps doing it to KNOCK IT OFF. I am getting ruined by the electric rates, and they just keep making millions of dollars worth of mistakes. I own a home here, and I am worried that when I am ready to sell, I won't get more than the price of a car for it.

What part of "we need to get these people, and therefore, McMahon, out of office" do they not understand?!

Has Principal at Harvey High School resigned? I believe she has.

Let me quote Term on his question to himself "If you want to know if the principal resigned, why ask here? Why don't you just ask her yourself? Or ask her husband or ask Dr. Hanlon yourself? While you are asking, find out about the manager of the cafeterias. Dig till you get to the bottom of that one. Better scandal than anything in the city. Tell us about that one too.

AHS HIRES NEW PRINCIPAL
Published on Aspen Daily News Online (http://www.aspendailynews.com)
Writer: Andrew Travers, Aspen Daily News Staff Writer andrew@aspendailynews.com

Ohio educator chosen from national search

The Aspen School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Ohio educator Kimberly Martin as the new principal of Aspen High School.

Martin, who boasts nine years of experience as a high school principal, is scheduled to officially take the post on July 2.

She has served as a principal in two different Ohio school districts. For the last seven years she’s overseen Thomas W. Harvey High School in Painesville, a town on Lake Erie outside of Cleveland.

“We look forward to Kim bringing her energy, experience and knowledge about teaching and learning to the students and staff at Aspen High School,” said Superintendent John Maloy. “I’m certain that Kim will be conscientious in her efforts to get to know students, staff, and parents as she transfers into the Aspen High School culture and the Aspen community.”

The district has been actively searching for a new principal since December, following the mid-semester resignation of principal Art Abelmann.

A national search for his replacement netted 39 applications.

Among the final three candidates, Martin was the only out-of-state candidate. She and three other finalists — which included interim principal David Schmid — held interviews in Aspen with panels of students, staff and members of the wider community.

Maloy kicked off the search process with a town hall-style meeting in December, where he gathered input from Aspenites on the ideal high school principal.

Among the hopes for Martin is that she sticks around for awhile. AHS — though ranked the top public school in Colorado last week — has a historically quick rate of turnover for its principals.

School board members praised Maloy and the process as unusually transparent and thorough, following the abrupt departure of Abelmann.

“It’s a bit unusual, because we did have a principal leave mid-year,” said board member Charla Belinski, referring to the very public process used to hire the new principal.

Michael Hanlon, superintendent of schools in Painesville, characterized Martin as a hard-working and approachable leader, in a statement provided by the Aspen School District.

“Kim is student, staff and parent focused and is always asking stakeholders how best to improve learning,” Hanlon said.

Martin said she will be moving to Aspen next month, after finishing out the school year at her current post, along with her husband and 12-year-old son.

“I am very ready,” she said Tuesday, “and excited to get to Aspen.”

She began her career as a high school English and history teacher, and has given presentations at national education conferences. She holds a master’s degree in education from John Carroll University and is currently working on her doctorate.

Maloy said Martin’s final taxpayer-supported salary is still in negotiation with the teachers’ union. The minimum pay for the job is $95,000 and Maloy said it will likely be higher.

7:29 I'd like to see the board and administration find the most qualified person for this job. Yes even as far as a nation wide search.
As for Ms. Martin I congratulate her for landing this prestigious job. Painesville's only concern is to find the most qualified person to fill her position.
It's a win win for everyone. She seems happy and those that wanted her gone are happy.
