WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN" who

Well, did the holidays go well for all of you? I thought I'd give you a break. Break’s over!

Let's start with the new Painesville City Council. Mike and Katie seem to be well situated at both ends of the table.

Same Boss as the old Boss? Hada as President and Hach as Vice-President. Well, at least it will be easy to point out the two current council members that cost Painesville the most money in the past five years. I knew Andy had no chance of anything but I thought that after viewing Councilman Fodor this past year he might throw his hat in the ring. I can only believe that losing over two million dollars didn't leave that much of an impression on the "5"?
Still debating over chickens. That should have been tabled long ago. Was the woman summoned to court? She wanted "2" and our city manager wants "6" …why?

A city resident came forward and asked about an additional Columbarium at Riverside Cemetery. As she spoke and was then answered by the city manager, a thought came to me. The cemetery has a $500,000 budget, a director and an assistant director…so why is it that a resident has to tell them the present Columbarium is filled? Maybe it was assumed people would stop dying.

A tip to Clerk of Council. When you are asked to read a letter, please read it. Do not try to censor it, as it was obvious that was what you were doing. Please include the TOTAL letter in the minutes of the meeting. Somehow, the letter you read appeared to be missing a few things.

Finally, a challenge in the chili cook-off! Maybe a fried-chicken cook-off could be in the works.

Painesville School Board Meeting Monday January 9, 2012 I do not expect a spelling-bee contest.

Will these companies be with us at the end of this year?
1. Kodak
2. Sears
3. Avery-Dennison
4. Key Corp.

Will you get off the two million please?
What fear are you spreading about Fasson?

So if I follow this correctly this mess with chickens was started by the administration? Not by a resident or councilman?

As far as the Clerk of Council censoring things:

A few years back I wrote a letter against all the illegals in our town to be read by the Clerk of Council at a council meeting. They cut out all but about three sentences. I called and asked by what autority was my letter censored. It is nowhere in the charter that they can do that as far as I recall.

As an aside--as unhappy as I am to see Hada/McMahon supporters take their new council seats, I am glad to see Hal Werner go. He ran on two things, and that was to get City Manager McMahon and the illegals out. As soon as he got into ofice, he started to kiss McMahon's (feet), and I think he mentioned the illegals twice. See ya, Hal. I don't think anyone will make THAT mistake again.

I believe the Clerk of Council is told what to do...by someone.
If the letter contained profanity I can understand her leaving thoses words out. If not just read it the way its written.
I wonder who she answers to?

Term 5:21. This is 1:12. Yes, I did not mean to imply that my censored letter was the fault of the Clerk of Council. Clearly the McMahon/Hada/Hach (and at the time Horvath and Delamotte) machine was at work. I can't believe that they are still trying to get away with it.

Hey 10:16...I'm GLAD Term won't let the 2 million plus go away....it's your kind of thinking that lets them get away with that kind of waste....

All who are newly elected end-up at opposite ends of the pretty tablecloth table. As they start to cave, their seat assignment becomes closer to Hurley Gurly/Hach/& CM - so all of them can whisper together. As for the chicken little conversations; "Oh, we have only two as we use their eggs for us." Prove it!! Their nationality never just uses, they sell everything outright!! Dropped-off a letter (many years ago) with copies to each council member; no one received the letter nor was it ever read at the council meeting. A Two Million loss of funds (our money) is very Important and needs to be settled with those who voted with their rubber stamp on the belief that the CM knew what she was doing - of which she had no CLUE. Council never asked for (except one) and read any of these contracts. Sun 1/8 - very sick and tired of the PR that P'ville has a vibrant downtown community: Shop downtown P'ville. Article for P'ville after the one for Willoughby. What a Big JOKE re: P'ville. In P'ville, nothing is nothing and has been nothing for a very very long time - that scenario will not ever change. Visitors to P'ville just laugh as we laugh. These people stop-by and say; "where are the places to shop as advertised?" Hey, maybe we should rezone Main Street into a tried and true farmland with chickens, roosters, beef, pigs, et al.
By the way, keep your EYES wide open and attentive: cock fights and dog fights are really alive and well (producing big money) in the City of Pain!!

I think the egg/chicken debate will end at the next council meeting. If an ordinance doesn't pass do Maude and Ruby get grandroostered in?
Shop Downtown Pqinesville? What exactly can you purchase? To compare downtown Painesville to downtown Willoughby well it's a stretch. Then again does it has to be?

I am going to be at the city council meeting on Tuesday jan. 17, 2012 to see if they have any answers for us over here on cedar brook area. There was some missing from the letter. please everyone from that area come out Jan 17, 2012 next meeting and see about the Cedarbrook area. It still floods and has been flooding for yearssssss. Back yards are always flooded. on glenwood and also cedarbrook and adjoining streets.

Dear Mr. Flock,
I am Updating you on the flooding issues on 419 glenwood and the cedarbrook area. Has we have the rainfall the streets and backyards are always flooded. Everytime it rains The backyard and side yards have no less than 6 inches in them when it rains. THen the garage will flood it has ruined my garage door. (right now I have no monies to fix it.) This has become a severe problem in this area. The streets are always flooded. I have reported this to city hall numerous times I have talked to Mr. Doug Lewis and the Main gentlemen in the fire department area (mr. Lynch) and also mr.suedekamp I filled out forms for the past few years given them pictures of the past few years of the basement and backyard flood and all the neighbors too. I was told that never has happened in this area and alot of the neighbors have complained to but the city just brushes us off. I have talked to Doug Lewis a few times. He seemed somewhat sympathetic at first but I was told I needed camera pictures of the sewer from my house to the street. I had a very reputable sewer company come out which has been in business for years and paid them money to snake the drains and I was told the drains are free and clear there is no broke tiles or blockages in my drains. I have had sewer in my basement. I have had over a foot and half of water in my basement. THis last time fire department had to come and shut down my electric in the basement. The water in the basement was up to my knees almost and I almost stepped in the water then realized it was electrified the came in and had to shut down the electric. I went straight to city hall that day too. And I asked for the paperwork that I had put in the first few times because I had given it to them and they said I never turned nor filled it out and flooding doesnt occur in this area. Which it does I have proof. I also filled out paperwork to have the city help me pay for my lost itme in the flood. They gave me the paperwork and never heard anything back from them called and never had return calls from that and they never recieved it. I took it up there myself. They asked if I had insurance they said claim it on that. It has been a very terrible ordeal. I lost a heater, clothing, a set of drums. table and chairs, washer and a dryer, many many items in the first time it flooded. and then this last time there has been many things again and the garage I have lost many many items a freezer, tools xmas items and my garage doors are so bad because of this. They both need replaced. I have had gravel placed in the driveway 400.00 worth and it still floods so bad the yard and garage. and all the adjacent yards drain into our yards too. They are also flooded badly too. They have closed cedarbrook too because of the flooding in the area. The city does not want to help with this area. I have done everything possible to stop this that I know of. I have attached some picture of the flooding I have alot more than this. If needed please call me I will get a disc of pictures for you. A lady just wrote a email to me and she has the same problem she just bought the house on cedarbrook I have copied it for you and pasted it to this email.

Now you can see why the letter was not read - it was clearly difficult to read out loud because of the grammar, punctuation, sentence fragments, and run on sentences. Mr. Flock made this person look uneducated by having this letter published. I guess some people get a feeling of superiority by doing this to people with lesser language skills. Nice one Andy. Have people laugh at this resident with real flooding issues - why couldn't you just help resolve the problem?

Andy also wasted a lot of time at the council meeting dragging out the chicken issue again. You'd think the town was being overrun by chickens and there was a black market for fresh eggs. And - he wants to waste more time on it by having people from other towns come and talk about their (lack of) chicken problems at a future council meeting. Chickens aren't on the list of the top 10 issues (or even the top 100) so why waste another minute on them?

6:50 Sorry, didn't have the problem you did with the letter I read it not try to leave things out.. Chicken issue? Blame the administration there making the mountain out of a mole hill. Ask Andy he agrees we have more important issues.

4:10 Unoffically I understand the officer is on a medical leave. The police are handling any call to Harvey. I know they were called Thursday, Friday and Monday. An E.M.S. unit I believe was dispatched Monday also.
Also at Monday nites Board Meeting Mr. Grippi asked about a hiring at the high school. Dr. Hanlon appeared to be in the dark on the question yet many students and staff have mentioned this hire to me?
To the staff and students at Harvey Y.O.Y.O. Good Luck.

(6:50 again) I didn't say that the letter was hard to understand - the resident's actions and frustration is quite clear - I said it was difficult to read "out loud". Try it. It was a long letter - everyone would have been better served by hearing a summary of the letter at the council meeting and then giving the council members the entire letter.

On that note -why did Andy have to wait for the council meeting? Don't they all have email? He could have passed it on as soon as he received it.

The Letter is not from an uneducated person.
I copied and posted it myself Mr. Flock had nothing to do with this. It would not allow me to post it the correct way to long.
But you should be able to get the jest of it. It was just a quick draft.
I am very Sorry. That I have offended you in the way it was ran together and hard for you to read. I am a very educated individual.
I also have great language skills. But thank you for your concern. I take in consideration what people think about me and say And if it is true I am able to fix it and make myself a better person I will use there opinions.
But we are all on the same playing field, Rich, poor, beautiful, skinny etc.
As long as you know who you are within yourself peoples Words, actions, looks and rejections cannot bother one. Just depends on what you do with it.

6:03 Its always attack the message.
Grammar? No problem. but now we are talking about grammar and not tthe flooding issue, that's the point of the complaint. Thanks for the letter.
If Andy would have emailed the letter, we probably would not have heard about it. But we did for everyone to hear her plight.

Term. Did I miss anything? New Year's resolutions from the bloggers?

One resolution I had was to start riding my bike more often to work...yeah (with this mild winter it has been easy)

Here's a thought for Painesville.

How about bike lanes to connect the following 'gems' in the "Painesville" of the Western Reserve?

1.Paine Falls (amazing place... have you been there recently?)
2.Fairport Harbor Light House
3.Grand River (Restaurants, PB's, Brennens)
4.The Painesville Town Green (aka downtown..)
5.Rec park (and Nemeths)
6.The soon to be restored mansion (Steele Mansion)

A bike tour of these could be awesome!

I think turning the ideas from the blog into action would be a way around the 'no go' (no change council).

Link Painesville up with the Lake Erie bike tour could get travelers along the way to Niagara. Sandusky even has a nice feeling to it when you stop by there.

There are many ideas out there, but looking to city government in this region... for any type of innovation in public policy is not going to happen. (although Frank Jackson seems to be up to some stuff lately)

One more thing, how will Painesville be effected by the repeal of the death tax at the end of this year?

I read in the Cleveland Crain's Business that the Village of Orange is preparing for this change as it will begin next year.

A large portion of city revenue in the State of Ohio comes via death taxation.

6:03: Sorry to hear what you have been going through, and sorry that it sounds like you are getting the usual runaround and abuse that most people get in this city. I am very glad that you shared your story, and I hope that now maybe you will start getting some help. What you have been going through sounds awful, not to mention expensive. I hope you keep us posted on what is going on. My heart goes out to you and your plight.

6:22 You answered your own question. How would this be financed? The State of Ohio has decided to balance its budget by cutting funds to local governments and schools. With the roads in the state of repair they are in today funding bike paths are way down on any list. Painesville received a large amount of money on the "death tax" afew years ago. Anybody in the administration mention it and where it was spent?

Into General Fund maybe?

6:43 Thanks for taking the time to write that comment to the Glenwood resident. We are all in this together.

J - Just how should the city pay for this wonderful place so you will be able to ride your bike to help fulfill your NY resolution?
My resolution involves swimming but the city has not and never had intentions of putting in a pool even before the economy tanked.
They have to take care of the roads, water, sewer, etc. before doing anything so frivolous.
Also a great big thank you to the county for beating out city council by uping taxes first.
