"HOME ON THE RANGE" roy rodgers

Well, if you are going to make the paper, it might as well be over chickens.

At the council meeting last night, it was explained that, first off, the resident who came in front of council was not in violation of any ordinance. They should have been told to keep your two chickens caged... and if they're out of the cage then keep them in a fenced in area. Too easy!

Now the city wants to propose an ordinance that would allow up to six chickens housed in a twenty-four foot cage that is predator proof... along with a fenced in area so I guess they can be "free range". Why?

First, I think it was reasonable for two chickens per one residence, not one family or one address, none in apartment houses, privately owned homes only. No roosters either.

When the city proposed six chickens per residency, I believe some council members viewed it differently. Maybe that was the purpose. The lady asked for TWO not SIX. Why make a big deal over this? Two chickens provide an average of 14 eggs a week... do the math with six.

So what else did we learn? There is a limit of three dogs per household and we never even discussed cats. Now rabbits... you can have as many as you want. We already knew that.

NO CHICKENS-I do not want any.
Propose None. This is Painesville CITY, not Little Mexico. It already looks and feels like I live in Mexico as it is and I don't want dam chickens running around yards too.

If the Lady and her 2 chicken are not in violation, then a City Administrator should apologise and we should move on to more important issues. My Christmas Wish is that Mike Deleone and Katie Jenkins bring a serious approach to serious concerns. This whole storyline is just "chicken sh*t"

I see the illegals are protesting in Painesville they think the gringos should be able to have as many chickens as they want so they can have eggs too.......

12:59 So everything is the Hispanics fault? I'm glad you informed us!

I hearing many residents are calling council members and they want NO chickens allowed in the city. Now I'll admit I see very little harm with the two chickens, but for some reason our law director and city manager have decided on six? When only two were asked for, is this a back door way of having the ordinance fail?
12:59 many of the people against the ordinance don't think the Hispanics are stealing the eggs put house the contriband chickens.
Believe me I have been informed of many chickens housed in town. My question is will this ordinance be enforced and how?

Term 4:27, this is 12:59: I didn't say if I was for or against chickens being kept in the city. I also did not say that EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE is the fault of the Hispanics. What I said was that they steal the vegetables from our gardens, and they are stealing our country. Stealing eggs is right up their alley. If pressed, they'll tell you they DESERVE them.

As for the chickens, I don't know if I am for them or against them being kept in the city. On one hand, I think if people want to have a couple of chickens, why not? On the other hand, I sure do not personally want to hear them clucking when I'm trying to sleep, so...?

You may not say it. Thats what I seem to hear from you?
Sorry if again I misread your intentions.

Term 4:06. This is 5:51. You seem to be hearing things from me that I am not saying?

Give me a break. I said the Mexicans are theives and they would probably love to steal their neighbors eggs, and that's all I said. If I had had more to say, or if I had meant more, I would have said it.

If you want to put words in someone's mouth, put them in your own.

I'd rather hear chickens clucking than Mexican music.

Term, your post 4:27 - you ask how will the ordinance be enforced. Well, council voted to approve an ordinance giving the city the "right" to perform serches of private property without the homeowners permission. They called it "administrative serch warrants" i believe. Hal was the only seated councilman at the time to cast a 'no' vote. So you see now the city can enter your property with an "administrative search warrant" in hand and count cars, chickens, kids, adults, dirty dishes in the sink or anything they are pleased to count. Just another freedom or right, whichever you are inclined to call it, P-Ville residents don't seem to mind giving up.

4:31pm, I totally agree with you. Kathy Sak good point. When I heard this ordinance past, all I could think of was, "let them try". I have rights and I will protect them any way I can. I don't think this would pass a run through a higher court. City of Painesville, you are out of line on so many things, and this is at the top. Are you planning on instituting this only on American citizens? I sure don't see you taking advantage of this to check out the houses with too many cars and 10 garbage cans, etc.

Kathy has a very good point. When a rental which was in very bad disrepair was called to the city. The inspector went out to investigate. His conclusion the person that called garage roof needed repair. When questioned the assistant manger "thats their job".
It sorta like Owego St. we have fire hydrants with red bands, no curbs, our street has only been patched once in awhile in the last 60 years. But on both sides of the street our sidewalks are the pride of the city! The residents are held responsible why isn't the city?
