"BLACK FRIDAY" steely dan

No I'm not talking about shopping. As we enjoy our feast this Thursday and are thankful to our Creator for our bounty he has presented us. Take time to remember November 25, 1783.
That's the day set aside to remember Evacuation New York. That was the last day and the last vestige of British authority. British troop's left the United States.
We all remember July 4,1776 the day we declared our independence but it took over six years to drive the British out of the colonies. It took the Continental Army lead by General Washington to gain control of New York in 1783.
During that time more then 10,000 patriots soldiers and sailors died through deliberate neglect on British prison ships anchored in New York harbor. More died there then in any single battle during the war. Gives a new meaning to "Give me Liberty or give me death".
There is a Prison Ship Martyrs Monument at Fort Greene in Brooklyn, New York.
The story goes that if you swore allegiance to the crown you were set free. I don't know if this is true or not.
Also all during the time of 9/11 attack we kept hearing about Battery Park reading this story I know what the words mean.

Again have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Term,
You are such a downer, why do you post such things ?
I think you are a sad little man, and you want other people to feel bad about everything just like you, do you see a shrink ? you should.

Happy Thanksgiving day to you.

Term,

Unlike those who choose not to hear or read about historical events because it's such a buzzkill before they get ready to stuff their faces, I appreciate you mentioning the anniversary of Evacuation New York. There's nothing wrong with setting time aside to remember what our ancestors went through in order for the United States to exist.

We have never been in conflict with one country or another and now we are
starting the same crap all over again with Iran.

When will the War $$$ run out?

ANON 11/23 AT 6:25AM

If you would read the truth of the actual history of this country you would be educated to the facts. What this country had gone through in the past and what now is happening to put the US under the cinders. Give thanks (11/24) that you have what you have (if you know what you actually have) and realize that slowly what has come before which granted all of your freedom/rights is being put to rest with no return if you and everyone else takes it for granted.
The strong of the past fought the fight - today, everyone sits on their ---- without the knowledge or drive to change the negative paths of rights and freedom.

Peace to you on Thanksgiving!!

Story was never meant as a buzzkill. Only wanted to remind people of some of the others in the past to be "thankful" for.
Everyone knows July 4, 1776 I for one never new of November 25, 1783.

Sorry if I upset some of you. but it was only meant as a mini-history lesson. 6:25 No I don't and I'm happy in life.

1:50 here,

Term, the word should have been written as "buzzkill", as I meant it facetiously in order to chide those who are afraid that reading something about the struggles of our forefathers will turn them into Eeyore. You should not have apologized; anyone who is that sensitive should stick to reading "safe" material, like Family Circus cartoons.

As for Evacuation New York, author Sarah Vowell discussed it last week on "The Daily Show", but, once again, I appreciate you doing so as well.

6:45 Yes a day to be thankful.
I disagree. You had better remember the reason and the people who made this day special. It wasn't by accident.

Thanking God for what the meaning of thanksgiving was intended ?????
You can thank god for everything,
but that is not what Thanksgiving is about, leave God out of it.
