"SIGNS,SIGNS EVERYWHERE..." five man electric band
Signs, signs, everywhere signs. Do signs win elections? Do the people with those signs in their yards even know who the candidate is and where he stands on city issues? Do some issues such as levies or ballot items even deserve a sign? Where are the signs in town over the two state issues?
This happened to me yesterday evening. A neighbor of my mother's came up to me and told me his house insurance was cancelled (because of all his recent flood damage claims). He found another agent in Willoughby Hills that would cover his house, at a cost of over 600 dollars more a year.
I felt bad for him and then asked him "Well, why is that sign in your front yard?"
He mentioned that a long time [over 30 year] council member asked permission to put that sign in his front yard. I asked him if he ever met the person whose name was on the sign. “No” he answered. So I asked, “What makes you believe this man will help you with your flooding problem?” He said he didn't know. What has that long time council member done about your flooding problem? “Well, the city is doing a study” he answered. I mentioned that the study should have been done BEFORE the new development came along with two new schools built in the area… not after.
How’s that foundation holding up… how is the market value of your house holding up. Even an "underachiever" like me knows that first you check the present infrastructure before building… not after. Was there any larger sewers put in on Chestnut or Liberty Streets before construction was approved? I guess someone must have been absent that day in college.
The only way to be elected in Painesville is to go door to door… day after day; sunny days… cold days… introduce yourself to the voters, explain why you are running and ask them what you can do for them. Never lie if they ask you to repave their street… tell them you need three other votes even to get that done. If they do not like the city manager and want someone new… answer them honestly…”Yes, I believe we should go in a different direction” or “Under the circumstances, I believe that person is doing a good job”.
Knocking on doors, not 500 signs, not slick emails or asking me a question on the Internet. I asked one candidate two questions over six weeks ago and still have not received an answer.
Yes, it was two kind of tricky questions, but at least e-mail me and tell me you won't answer.
Signs do not vote for failed electric contracts that cost Painesville over 2 million dollars.
Signs do not vote to replace a 90-year-old water line.
Signs do not vote to keep water from flooding your property.
Signs definitely do not have control of all the waste in this town.
Remember that when you go to vote, did the person behind the sign say what they were going to do. And for those up for re-election… did they do what they said?
Back to my mother's neighbor, four years ago the same long-time council member asked to put a Fountain sign in his yard. Well, how did that work out for you people in Ward III?
On a recent levy, the one for a 3.9 mill Charter change, there were more signs in front yards then the number of votes that voted YES on the levy. What does that tell you?
I wish people who run for office spent as much time performing as a city official as they did trying to become one.

I read a facebook site for one man running for council that the mother of another young lady running for council who doesn't even live in this persons ward to put a sign in her yard. Now as much as I cannot stand my present councilman I would rather have him sitting in council instead of oour present council president manitulate ward elections. Speaking with the candidate in question I belieeve he will be lead to vote the way the council president asks him to. I guess ward 2 residents can then assume her daughter will do the same. After what we have witnessed in Painesville the only person that needs to go more then Hal is Joe!
facebook? Is this the new way to reach people? Just answer the questions Mike seems you are enamored with the city manager and council president. What we don't need is another spellbound by those two.
Want to keep the things running the way they have in the past, sorry you will not have my vote.
I believe Mr. Fountain has been stealing city dollars for the past two years. Now you tell me you have his endorsement? I guess you will be as ineffictive as he has been?
Couple of thoughts. First, unfortunately you don't need to take an IQ test to vote and many people vote on name recognition. So, the more you get your name out there, the better chance you have of winning. People don't seem to vote on issues anymore, it's all about the name they recognize.
Second, about an earlier posting....I knew about the Walgreens robbery because I showed up there to buy something two minutes after it happened!
Third, stop and think about this. For the city to use it's reverse 911 (which I was told costs money to use), the situation of home burgleries must be REALLY Bad! Just read the Gazette, not the News-Herald and you will see the arrests in this town.
Fourth, here's a story that will make you sick. This past summer, I went to the Outdoor YMCA in Perry on a number of occasions and kept seeing a Lake County car there. One day (a Saturday), I finally saw it pull up with a group of teenagers in it. I'm talking about an actual Lake County Employee car with the green logo on the side and the special license plate. I wish I would have had the brains to write down the license number to report it. Someone is misuing our taxpayer money big time if they let their teenagers drive the company (county) car!!!
This is Katie Jenkin's mother, Christine Howlett. I've said it before and I'll say it again, as many times as it takes until people will listen. Katie has a mind of her own. She has NEVER followed the group. She has ideas, good ideas, and will vote HER conscience when voting on issues that come before Council. If people making these random remarks about her would take the time to meet with and talk to her, there would be no doubt that Katie Jenkins is her own person. Just because Don and I have the sign in our yard of a candidate you don't happen to like should not be the reason to vote for Katie's opponent. Do you want the candidate who has had time to prove himself and instead has done nothing, or the young woman with a master's degree in Public Administration, who is passionate about Painesville and wants to be enmeshed in its future? You know what her opponent will do the next four years... nothing. I'm telling you from my own experience, biased as it may be... give Katie the opportunity to have a seat on Council and you won't regret it.
Good job, but what does she think of illegals and there kids ?
Mrs. Howlett;
Then I am sure there is a good reason why Katie is out going door-to-door with Mr Deleone in the ward HE is running in as well as Deleone accompanying her door-to-door in the ward SHE is running in. Early consensus building? Or a family/friend relationship voters are unaware of? Not exactly the company I would keep if I were running on a platform of independent thinking. I am sure your daughter is all you say she is and more but since most elections are won (or lost) on the perceptions of voters..Katie might want to re-think that judgment call.
Mrs. Howlett, Ican appreciate your support of your daughter. That's as it should be. However, what speaks volumes, more than the sign in your yard of who you support,it's the yards that have Katie's signs in them. These same members of council who many of us feel need to go. These same members of council who have held too much power for too many years. These people have Katie's signs in their yards. There's a reason they want her in. The controlling type of people these are, would not support someone they didn't feel they could control or would vote their way. You have to understand that this would give voters pause when even considering Katie. Sorry, but facts are facts. This gives a certain appearance of Katie, andI for one am leery. Others I have talked to have the same reservations because of who is supporting her.
I appreciate the feedback, and the nice way in which it is put.
I can make one promise to the voters - I will not compromise on what is best for the City, regardless of who is voting which way. I have no agenda, and I have no ulterior motive, except for improving Painesville. This is a City I have lived in for 29 years. This is the City which I plan to continue to reside in for many years to come. The "people" of this City are who I answer to, not the members of Council. Isn't that what a councilperson should do?
Mom is right when she says I think for myself (thanks Mom) - but in this instance I am charged with thinking for the residents and the City. And that is the only thing I will be doing.
Sorry Katie, hand in hand with Mike doesn't look good for an "independent thinker"
Why are you even in ward3?
To 7:24 am,
I do not know Ms.Jenkins but I do know that if you want to compair placement of signs, how about all of the landlords having Tibbits and Murphy signs on there rental propertys, some of the landlords don't live in Painesville and some of them who did not support Hal Werner in the past now have his signs on there rentals too,( don't forget Hal is a landlord also )
I think it is do to the fact they do not want a young fresh face at the table watching them.
Mrs. Howlett I can undersdtand you being proud of your daughter,as you should be. A masters degree in Public Administration, as well as her passion for Painesville. My question is how much common sense does she have? We have all kinds of people with all kinds of degrees yet we still managed to loss over 2 million dollars on an electrical contract? The degrees didn't seem to help us did it?
Is she immature? Why have an event next to Mr. Werners home? Yes degrees are nice and so is passion, but what Painesville seems to need is some good old common sense.
Perhaps you should consider that these so called "members of council who have held too much power for too many years" are supporting Katie because she's intelligent, motivated, well-educated, passionate, and will not use the council position to serve her own agenda, as has the current person holding that seat the past four years. It has nothing to do with "controlling" her. It's because she's the best candidate.
I would not be supporting Hal, either, if the only other choice was not Katie Jenkins. Sorry, I think she's too tight with the people we need OUT.
The vote has to be Werner, Tibbits and Murphy if we want any change.
Landlords may not live in the city, but by owning property they are paying taxes and that gives them some say, an investment in what happens, and they have a right to influence how the city is run. Just sayin'.
Sorry, Katie, I have to agree with the comments here. You may say you will do what's best for the city but that's what the current council also says. Anyone with a right mind who is running would say that. That's what we want to hear. The fact that Abby DelaMotte supports you and current questionable in my mind council members support you, really makes me veer from you. Others who have seen the signs in said yards have mentioned the same thing to me. Sorry. Damage is done.
To 11:02. No, she is anything but immature. And, she has more common sense in her little finger than most people do in their entire body. As far as the location of her fundraiser, Katie wanted to have it in Ward 2. The two choices were Jalapeno Loco and Jackie's. Using common sense, Katie chose Jackie's.
To 10:06. Because Katie was seen with another person running for council, this means she's not an independent thinker? One side of Liberty Street is Ward 2, the other is Ward 3. They happened to walk it together.
To 7:24. Do you always agree with everything your friends/acquaintances say and do? Of course not. Neither does Katie. She was seen with another candidate and now there are all sorts of conspiracy theories.
Here is the problem in this city and why I am voting for Katie. You have the Hada/Delamotte old boy club that has kept this city as their own little playground.
You also have the Murphy/Tibbits/Flock good old boy club that wants to keep all our rentals and low income because it will buy them votes and that group doesn't see through their agenda.
As everyone focuses on this battle of who likes who no one is fighting the fight of enforcing our current ordinances?, who is supporting our Comprehensive Plan that 70% of residents said we should lower rentals?, who is working with the county to get some of our downtown back?
You can all argue over the Hada connection but in the end Murphy and Tibbits are just the same but they are the Flock connection. Neither Hada or Flock has done anything for this city lately and we don't need anyone from either group in office.
Katie is new on the scene and is the one person running that I think has a chance of actually deciding for herself.
Mike and I walked together on Liberty because it is a street where our wards overlap, pure and simple. There ate plenty of things Mike and I will disagree on. The one important thing we do agree on is Painesville is the reason we're doing this.
As for my maturity level - I can gaurantee that I'm older and wiser than many people twice my age. Have you e ER questioned other candidate's maturity level? Probably not because they're almost all over 50. However, I could point out several 50 year olds who act like small children. All I ask for is a chance. I highly suggest anyone who questions my abilities and maturity attend the Meet the Candidates event. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised
Good old boys club? You must be looking in the wrong places. First off Flock, and Murphy I don't believe own any rentals, yes Tibbits does. The guy that Katie walked her ward with sits on the zoning board and one of his resent votes was to INCREASE rentals in Painesville. Tibbits might own them but he has yet to vote to increase them. All we need is another lawyer sitting on council doing what Joe Hada tells him, and the same goes for that young lady. Term post the video of Abby again seems people here have short memories.
Myself I wish there were more Flocks on councils then Hada and Hach! The three you mentioned never cost you 2.7 million dollars like Hada/Hach.
Also - for anyone who I have not had the opportunity to talk with, or anyone who would like to talk, please call or email me. (440)289-2703 or KJenkinsforCouncil@gmail.com
"The vote has to be Werner, Tibbits and Murphy if we want any change."
Werner has had 4 years to try to change things. What has he done? Not a damn thing.
I can't believe the amount of flack KJenkins is getting simply because she chose to work with another prospective candidate, or because one of her signs is next to Paul Hach's.
You guys really can't see the forest for the trees, can you?
J. Jenkins, Saying you will do the best for Painesville, is okay. But, I would like to know, before, I vote, will you support and vote for Joe Hada for Council President? If you can not or will not answer this question, then I will vote not support you.
Adam, Where did you get this Werner, Murphy, Tibbits idea from?
I thought it was Flock, Murphy, Tibbits.
1:09 You bring up an interesting idea if Mr. Tibbits is smart he will review all of Mr. Deleones votes on the zoning commission. I wonder how many of his votes affected Ward III? Personally I know very little about him.
Only that Fountain endorsed him and he works as an asstiant county prosecutor's office.
I only hold he realizes an endorsement from Mr. Fountain won't garner many votes?
Just another rumor I heard today. It seems that development Station 44 on Chestnut St. may want to become apartments? Do any of you remember when our city fathers and mothers mentioned the Brentwood would never become section 8 housing?
To the post 12:47. city council has always been contolled by JOE HADA, since 1981. he has always had 4 contolling votes on all issues, concerning the city. this is why he is out there working at each election to maintain control. ANDY FLOCK has always been out-voted,because JOE HADA, has not agreed with ANDY'S proposials, however, his proposials have always been in the best interest of the residents.THIS IS WHY YOU SEE JOE HADA PUTTING UP PAUL HACH AND MIKE DELEONE YARD SIGNS, so he can retain control.and this is the truth, so help me god.We need a change on city council.PLEASE VOTE
Term, Adam was quoting 11:41 am.
For Anonymous 4:49 - a story that will make you sick . ... You saw a van with the county logo at the Perry YMCA - on a Saturday - most likely case workers or social services transporting children/teens in county protective custody to a much-deserved fun time. Kind of sad, isn't it. God bless them.
TERM: "Adam, Where did you get this Werner, Murphy, Tibbits idea from?
I thought it was Flock, Murphy, Tibbits."
Where did I get it?
I copied it directly from September 26, 2011 11:41 AM
Landlords may not live in the city, but by owning property,
Do you think they will ever vote for a tax increse, even if the city needed it for an emg.
They all had vote no for the schools even though most of there tenants have kids in school, and good schools make for a nice place to live and rent.
'Just sayin'.
Katie Jenkings, do you support Rita McMahon as our city manager? Do you want her to stay our city manager?
Adam, sorry I missed that one. Also Katie receives flack because she answers on this blog. People know she's reading it. As far as asking her questions , don't ask here go to the candidate meeting and ask.
Tell me who with the master degree thought it was a good idea to waste money to paint the crosswalks red?
Do you really need people with degrees to tell you the paint won't last? Or was this one of Terms put a wig and lipstick on it, it's still a pig ideas?
After reading the narrow minded and uninformed comments on this site from some of these posters all I can say is its too bad we don't require people to prove they have a brain before they can vote.
With the way administrating anything has become so complicated in today's world, having a degree of any kind should be a plus. It's when the thinking isn't grounded in common sense that a degree becomes meaningless. If that was the city manager's worst judgment call then I could live with it...unfortunately it wasn't. Did council have to vote on that expenditure or was it under a certain dollar amount cut-off?
In order to have any four-vote majorities, we need Flock, Tibbits, Murphy, Werner. It's just the way it is. I think we have a much better chance of Werner voting with the other three than Jenkins.
Ya the blind leading the blind. Murphy has about as much sense as Warner and neither has enough brain to be on anything that has any power over any thing
Council President Andrew Flock? Vice President of Council Hal Werner? Flanked by John Murphy and Richard Tibbets? Wow, We'll be sitting on those hard benches til after midnight! Off with Queen's head! Fire the Law Director! Move JaHada to the end of the table! The new Circus may not solve our problems but I'm sure they will be more entertaining.
Oh yeah, right on, 4:09: And the current people have all done so well? WHO'S blind? Look again, pal, I think it may be you.
7:33 I think you might be premature with the four you mentioned? Flock has only endorsed Tibbits, and Murphy.
Just a thought the problems are not being solved presently, are they? I guess if your happy with red crosswalks.... along with 2 million dollar loses keep doing what your doing.
The only other choice for Werner is Katie Jenkings, and I think she's in with Hada, etc., and I think she is FOR the illegals. Unfortunately, I think we have to stick with Werner.
To 12:21pm, maybe you should talk to Mrs. Jenkins before you stick your foot in your mouth by spreading those kind of slanderous lies. Who are you?, Hals wife incognito?
October 11 Harvey High ask her there.12:21 Slander? You know it has been said that "slander" is the revenge of a coward?
Does Katie have a record of any kind that proves she is for illegals? Only Katie knows if shes "in" with Hada. Not you, not me, not even Hal. You my friend in around about way just slandered Hal's wife? Ask the candidates where and what they stand for. Katies biggest plus in my eyes is that she's young and had no reason to settle in Painesville except she must believe in it.
To 3:40. This is 12:21. I think you had better watch out before you start using words like slander. I said "I think" she's in with Hada, etc., and "I think" she is FOR the illegals. I think this based on what I have heard and what she has written. I could be wrong, of course, but that's what I think, and I am sticking to it. I don't think she has the slightest idea what kind of national threat the illegals are posing to our country, and I don't think she has any idea that they must get out to save our country. I'm entitled to my opinion, and my opinion is, as much as I hate to say it, that I think Hal Werner is the safer choice. That is my opinion, 3:40, not slanderous lies so, again, I think it is you who had better watch YOURSELF.
To 12:21. If you're going to say Mrs. Jenkins is for illegals, please clarify when you heard her say it (did you hear it yourself or someone else?) or where did you read it? I have read her literature and her blog, and there is NOTHING, not even a hint of what you're saying.
I heard her say something to the the line of helping them (illegals)
For that I will not vote for her.
Not 12:21 or 6:46 pm
If I were you I would go to "Meet The Candiate Night" and ask what she meant, or even where you heard here mention this?
It's nice to see that people are continuing to vote a certain way because they "think" something - without researching that topic to see if it's really true.
Yes, Painesville!
Vote for Hal because you THINK he's going to do something about illegals (even though he hasn't done a damn thing about them yet - one campaign promise broken, by the way)!
Don't vote for KJ because you THINK she's friends with Paul Hach!
Vote for Murphy because you THINK he and Andy Flock and Tibbetts might somehow miraculously save the city all by themselves and reverse the Millstone situation and get us completely out of AMP penalty-free and fire Rita McMahon!
Clearly, the best way to be an informed voter is to just "think" you know the right answer without doing any research. You know, TALK to the candidates and see what they actually say about an issue? Novel concept, eh?
95% of the people posting here really ought to read their comments out loud before they're allowed to post them.
I mean, seriously - some of these comments were just ridiculous...now they're getting plain ludicrous.
Where or when did she supposedly say anything like this? I've spoken to her on several occasions and the only stance I've heard her take is that she is against anything illegal
Please "TERM", it's quite clear who you support by the Tibbits sign in your yard! It's also common knowledge that you are friends and support Murphy. This hypocritical biased crap written on here is just ridiculous and I think anyone with half a brain can see right through all the lies on this site. I witnessed with my own eyes Murphy putting up Tibbits signs. That's okay, but when Joe Hada is seen doing it for other candidates, well then it's just wrong. It's also pretty ridiculous that a tenant can't even have a sign in his yard of the candidate he likes because his landlord likes Tibbits who happens to be running against him. Also, this meet the candidate night that "TERM" keeps mentioning that everyone go to is supposed to be fair and unbiased yet the of the "Presidents" of the organization hosting the event (according to the flyer) is on Murphy's campaign and actively supporting him. Now, if this was a campaign manager from Mr. Hach, Mr. DeLeone, or Mrs. Jenkins I bet there would be an uproar. How is that fair? How is any of what I mentioned fair? If this is the way that Tibbts and Murphy run a campaign, I would be afraid for Painesville if either of them got a seat on city council. And I agree with the prior posts, just give the signs back! This type of dirty politics should not be tolerated!!!
09/26/2001 8:06 pm
You worry about landlords not living in painesville. We pay our city workers way above other city's why has council never tried to change charter Where they should compensate the city in some way. health benefits and salary cuts. Our payroll is out of site.Worry abouy rentals. They are keeping our economy going . Maybe pay rental for painesville workers at Ready Go or Helen Hazen park. They are so bold they don't care who sees this robbery.diaming
Adam why do all your comments to the blog. come in as spam?
Term, I thought it took a majority of city council to appoint Mr. Tibbits to the task force just as it took a majority of city council to appoint Mr. DeLeone to the Board of Zoning Appeals. I agree with you that it should be more than about signs and that personally going door to door matters. And while signs help, I have seen, met and spoken with Mr. DeLeone. He took a lot of time to speak with me and to listen to my issues and had good ideas. Some of which either faction of city council may or may not agree with. He is walking Ward 3. He was even out walking last night in the cold rain. He had very positive ideas and would be a fresh new face on city council, not anyones puppet! I would ask people to reserve any negative judgments about Mr. DeLeone until they have the opportunity to meet him. Just my opinion, which I am sure will cause a stir on here.
All you have to do is go to the candidates night and ask for yourself. You would soon figure out if the meeting was "rigged" I want an honest open dialogue so you can understand where these candidates are planning to take us.
Ask about failures as well as successes. I would think everyone in this community wants to hear real answers as well as solutions to our problems.
Term, I do not know why my comments are coming in as spam, other than maybe people here don't want to read them? Hahahaha...
Oh yeah Hal was such a thorn in the administrations side he voted in support of everything they put on the table in the last 4 years with the exception of two votes.
Hal voted with Hach, Hada and McMahon more than Mr Fountain did.
take your rose colored glasses off voters........
if brains were dynamite some people couldn't blow their nose!
so if you decided to vote for Hal you are getting more of the same of what you have just swallowed for the last 4 years. Did it taste good? Are you happier than you were 4 years ago? Hal has done more to drive business out of Painesville than to keep it here. I love hearing how many times the police were summoned to his house for complaints by his wife or Hal.
Hal, where did you hold your fund raiser this year? How many businesses did you support in your ward Hal?
To 11:27: If you talk to current councilpersons DiNallo and Fodor, they seem really nice, too. However, they vote with McMahon and Hada on everything without fail. It will be the same with DeLeone. It's just like if you are voting Republican or Democrat in national (or other) elections. When you vote for the person, you are voting for, and getting, their party. In this instance, the "party" is Hada, McMahon. It's too big of a risk. Just look at DiNallo and Fodor. We can't chance it.
As for the Werner vs. Jenkins. I don't trust that Jenkins wants the illegals out, and I don't trust that she will not vote with Hada/McMahon. Maybe some other day when we are rid of the Hada/Hach, etc. problem on our council, but not today when this block needs to be broken.
To 1:27/// Yo state that the block needs to be broken, well Hal is part of that block as stated above you he has voted for everything with Hada ana company everytime but twice. So if you really want to break the block Hal needs to go also. That is leaving Jenkins the only one to vote for in the ward. Hall did nothing for almost 4 years why give him another chance to screw up four more years
To 1:27PM (this is 11:27)
It is my understanding that McMahon does not vote, only members of counsel. After speaking with Mr. DeLeone it is clear he is an intelligent and educated young man who will vote the best interests of Painesville, and not blindly follow the Hadda or Flock factions that many people keep refering to. That is exactly what I want in our next councilman for ward 3. Did you speak with him when he was out walking? I am just saying it would be better to speak with him before you make up your mind. I prefer someone who will put the city first and not these petty splits or voting blocks that you seem caught up in. After speaking with him at length, Mr. DeLeone seems the best choice for our ward.
To 1:08: I don't think anyone is saying that Hal is a good choice, just a better choice than Jenkins right now. I am also guessing that Hal voted with Hada/McMahon, etc. more than Fountain did, because Fountain was never there to vote. If what you say is true -- that Hal voted against Hada/McMahon 2 times, then it is 2 times more than Fountain.
To Adam, 4:42: No, Hal didn't do anything about the illegals, and that is not the only campaign promise that he broke, but at least if something came up and there was a vote, I am pretty sure he would vote against the illegals. I don't think Jenkins would, and I will not take that chance. Also, do you see Hach helping Werner put up his campaign signs? No, you don't, but he is helping Jenkins. Bad sign for me. If Hach wants her in, I do not. And no, I don't think that Tibbits, Murphy and Flock can save the city all by themselves because there needs to be four votes to get something passed or turned down. There needs to be a fourth vote, and I think it is safer to count on Hal for that fourth vote rather than Jenkins. And I think you are getting a little carried away by saying that anyone thinks that those four people can reverse the AMP fine, etc. Nobody can. Not even Hada/Hach/Fountain and McMahon that got us into it.
Maybe some people are thinking about this race the wrong way. Mrs. Jenkins and Mr. DeLeone are well educated, have good ideas, are independent thinkers. Instead of worrying if they might vote with Flock or Hada, shouldn't we want free thinkers who may vote with Flock or Hada when it is in the best interests of Painesville? Mrs. Jenkins and Mr. DeLeone are just what Painesville needs, LEADERS and not followers like their opponents.
To 7:56 pm I thought Mr. Fountain was the only vote against Mr. DeLeone's appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals. That says a lot about the Flock vs Werner vs Hada, since they all agreed to appoint Mr. DeLeone and vote together routinely. Just look at the last city council meeting. It also says a lot about Mr. DeLeone because he now has Mr. Fountain's endorsement. Seems he turned a negative into a positive. If he can demonstrate that same type of leadership on City Council it puts him way ahead of the landlord running against him.
Yes maybe some are. When I have called Mrs. Jenkins an email, phone conversation, or in person I get an answer.I am given an honest answer and may even not what I want to hear. Now Mr. DeLeone has a web site I asked him two questions. He acknowledged in person he received them. 8 weeks I have waited for a response, none yet. Sounds like he earned Mr. Fountain endorsement honestly no answers.
I believe that Mike DeLeone is a nice person but I also believe he will be Joe Hada's new bobblehead in Ward III. I see no independence here.
The only reason Fountain gave his endorsement to DeLone is because Hada told him too. That isBob if you still want to receive that check until January. What this man has done for Ward 3 he should be ashamed. now he wants to endorse someone?
While were on the subject. Whats Terms relationship to KJenkins seems he's gone to the other side
On immigration.?
Read in the News Herald a city offical sold his home on Mentor Ave. for $114,000. Seems he purchased his home in 2004 for 146,000? What's this tell you about your property values if city officals are leaving a sinking ship?
10:16 I've known Katie since she was in junior high Katie and my middle daughter graduated from Harvey the same year and have continued to be good friends. Recently Katie was in my daughters wedding if you believe these facts are an endorsement that's on you. Although I trust my daughters selections of friends.
Maybe Councilwoman DiNallo must explain her live, work, and play in Painesville to this director? To late he's outta here. Oppertuities to sell a home in Painesville are getting harder a loss of $35,000 a City Director can live with. The question should be can we get b without him?
Term, 2:20: Ah, so there it is. Katie Jenkins is a personal friend of your family. Not a crime in and of itself. But, I'm with 10:16, because you do seem to be on the side of the illegals now, so is THAT why? We still need four people who will be able to vote together to get McMahon out, and I still think we have a better chance of Werner doing that than Jenkins (although I would prefer a third choice if given the chance).
It is good to know that Katie Jenkins can be a good friend to Term's daughter (and I mean that sincerely). That does not mean, however, that she is what we need on city council right now.
I have two questions:
1) Has anyone ever heard Katie Jenkins say that she would like to see Rita McMahon (current city manager) relieved of her position?
2) Has anyone ever heard Katie Jenkins say that she would initiate anything to help get rid of the illegals in Painesville, or even help with the effort if someone else initiated it?
I believe that she would have said so if she meant so, and since she apparantly has never said so, I take that to believe that she doesn't mean so.
5:15...Did you ask her yourself? I did.
I would like to interject before Angelo receives a lashing for not disclosing his relationship to me - I, like any other candidate, have had to earn his "endorsement". Even now, I am unsure that he backs me, but I do know I have made headway in him believing in me as a valuable candidate for Ward 2.
Angelo contacted me to find out what my stance is in this election and in this city. We have spent time over the past year discussing the very same topics that consistently come up on this blog. He was, like many of you, apprehensive about my ability to perform the duties. He has ASKED me for my opinions on various things, including Rita and the illegals. His opinion of me as a candidate, although informed by interacting with me over the years I've been friends with his daughter, was formed primarily by the Painesville-related conversations we've had.
If anyone would like to know my stance on anything, feel free to contact me. I am not going to campaign on Angelo's site. And these are topics much better addressed when a discussion in real time can occur.
If you haven't contacted me to discuss issues that are of serious concern to you, then maybe that's because you're afraid that you may like my answers? Or maybe you're just not that worried about researching the candidates. Either way, I have posted my personal phone number, email, and website several times on this forum.

Please feel free to contact me at any time, whether you live in Ward 2 or not. I will not address questions through blog. Thank you!
TO 5:15 you seem to be assuming a lot without asking the question to Jeniken or anyone else. Again I have ask and she is against anything that is against the law. She like anyone else just doesnot know what can be done with local laws, and only the Feds have the right to deport, that is unless you as a tax payer want to foot the large bills to keep them locked up in Dan's jail...lots of moneyunu
To all of you who want the city to rid itself of the illegals, I for one would like to hear what YOUR plan would be... how can the city initiate this? Please keep in mind that only the federal government can perform deportation activities. Keep in mind that police cannot stop anyone without probable cause. Remember that not everyone in Painesville who looks Mexican is illegal. I understand this is a problem, but without laws in place on a local level, how would you suggest the city handle the problem? You have lots of complaints, but I haven't seen one suggestion from any of you as to what it is you want initiated by council that is legal and economically feasible. There's no magic wand and council has no legal power. You obviously have the answer so please share your ideas.
I don't believe Katie needs an endorsement from me, and I wondered how long before the friendship with my daughter would take to become public, it could hurt her more than help her. I find no reason to believe she is anything more then what she claims to be "Independent". Not in anyones camp. I've asked here questions and she answered them all. First off Hada only needs Hach and DeLoene to keep power and I believe that's an easier to accomplish then trying to bring Katie along. The election in Ward II could be interesting but I just don't see Hal garnering more then 40% of the vote. It's a two people race this time not a three. If Hal does loss it will not be because he didn't try he just got off track early and the whole deal with Jackie's left a bad taste in my mouth as well as the voters in his ward. Could be wrong, have been before and probably will be in the future.
