Yesterday evening Painesville City Council held a special meeting.
LEGISLATION:
1. Ordinance: AMENDING SECTIONS 167.071,.09,.11,AND 12 OF THE PAINESVILLE CODE OF 1998 RELATING TO THE CLASSIOFICATION AND COMPENSATION PLAN.

To Discuss Personnel Maters Related to Union Negotiiations
ANY OTHER MATTERS THAT MAY PROPERLY COME BEFORE COUNCL
No public notice was in the paper to inform residents, but oh well.
Two Unions and non-union employees were given a 2% raise every year for the next 3 years so if you make $28.00 per hr. you will now make an extra $22.40 a week the first year and in the final year make
$29.71 per hr. or now you make $1120.00per wk at the end of the contract $1188.40.
I also think the city manager said they were getting an extra holiday payed.
One word comes to mind "irresponsible" I would like to give the workers a 5% raise but in the economic times we live in today pay raises just don't seem to be approprriate at this time.
Council told us four years ago that if we didn't pass a 3.9mill charter change for safety. The leaders of the city stated we needed the million dollars it would raise or the city would be in dire straits it failed by over 80% No vote. You decide does Painesville have any credibility.
Think about this as you drive down the streets of Painesville.

I'm not surprised this happened. Look at the plus side of this the citys doing fine and they should not ask for any increase in taxes from its taxpayers. I can't find any other government body giving raises we most be flushed with cash. to bad we don't fix our streets.

Wages should have been frozen the first year and the contract reopened next year.
Someone should ask to see the books.

"Irresponsible"...define it:
A contact consisting of a 2% pay raise and a sick leave program that places limitations on how and when it is to be used. Also, it places limitation on how much can be used in a calendar year, in spite of the fact you rightfully earned it and receive a mere pittance in sick leave buyback when you leave.
A 2% pay raise is about all city employees have received over the last 10+ years in spite of every other city giving out nearly double if not more in pay raises. The city has routinely cried poor mouth over the last decade, but ironically seem suddenly experience "our greatest financial growth ever" the following year after a contract is settled.
Unlike, you I have no issues with this raise for one of the hardest working fire departments in Lake County.
Also the department with the most over-time abuse. over 500 hrs to one employee? Where is that person this year. I know how the scam works boys.

As I read some of these absurd complaints I totally understand why most of council just sits there and won't answer most of you.
There is no way anyone could ever make Term happy with anything.
You would want us to elect the candidate that had to have restraining orders for stalking?

I agree with 2% or more for city employees. In the past the city has cried poor mouth. Every time it's something new,"the hospital is leaving so they can't have a raise, the market is bad so they can't have a raise." And the list goes on. Before people start complaining, why don't you look and see what other cities are paying their employees in relation to Painesville. P'ville workers are the lowest paid in the county and have taken 1% and 0% raises in past contracts. The FD should have held out for more money.
Quit complaining about the steets. They pave a few a year and can't get to them all at once. Even Beachwood has potholes in the spring time!
As for Hal.. I think it just ocurred to him that city government is more complicated than an illegal mexican problem. I doubt he will even run next time so don't worry.
To new stores opening in downtown Painesville, come on Term. lets hear the complaint about them, you know you want to.
If Hal Werner wants a chance of staying on council, he should shutup and vote yes to everything Joe Hada tells him to. He needs to be one of big joes puppies like the three to Joes right, that seat mean that much to you Hal?

What streets are the City of Painesville paving this year? Zip, Zero, Nada. Look before you leap sir! Cold patching is not paving.

Read the article in the newspaper where it makes it sound how council negatiated this contract.They were not allowed in on any decesions.Poor poor people of Painesville; Your stagnate and long overdue puppets need to be replaced. Ask yourselves where were we when Hada took over some twenty two years ago and where we are now.Old pictures don't lie. Compare them with the garbage filled and asphalt patchwork quilt roads we pass everyday as go about our daily business.You might also look at the traffic in those old pictures compaired to today.We are filled with stagnate officials and desperately need a change.In my opinion there are many people holding jobs with very high salaries that are used for stepping stones for Ms.Rita.Please Rita.Let them breathe.

Looks like the Baetzel blog is history. . .I didn't think she'd be able to keep it up for long. Whether any of it's true or not, I just don't think you can do that to somebody, free speech or no free speech. I would love to know what happened. I would expect Alphagirl to resurface eventually unless Bob found some way to muzzle her, legally speaking. One thing I'm sure of, she didn't have a change of heart and decide to stop -that is one bitter, bitter woman.
Yes, she did some damage over 1,100 hitson her site. You wonder how much of it was fact. City workers just nod and smile.
