People are starting to take out petitions for the coming Council- at large race this November. Will the three council people seek reelection, Becks, DelaMotte, Hada. Along with some old and new challengers, Beahon,Dinalo, Fodor,Fitzgerald,Murphy, Smith?
The most interesting comment I have heard is the Hispanic Community is looking for a viable candidate to run? By themselves or with another candidate. Good Luck to everyone whos is going to get in the race and I'm sure the people of Painesville want to hear your ideas for the next four years for our city.
On a final note one or two people have expressed the costs of running for council to be about $6000.00 thats alot of money for the opportunity to serve the people of Painesville. That being said any candidate that would like to post a meeting or fundrasing announcement I will be more than happy to let them do so on this site.

speaking of elections, how is obama's "hope" and "change" working out for you.
i noticed that washington gave away millions in some bonuses, these politicians are throwing money all over the place. congress is not cutting back but locally the cities have to.
my friends are getting laid off. some are facing reduced pay and hours. they talked about reagan trickle down economics this is worse. maybe those big shots will tip the door man.
start looking at the labels, and try to buy American. be careful who you vote for, they just might win.

It only bothered me once when Joe forgave the city schools half the money they owed the city in building permits. I live in Heisley Park and although I live in Painesville my family has nothing to do with Painesville City Schools . Heisley Park is in the Riverside School District. Thanks for giving our money away.

The Hada's have always been good people..civic minded to describe them hit the nail on the head. Regardless of who runs for council, here is a suggestion..how about look at the individual success of the candidate??? Look at the education and occupational backgrounds of council members in other successful communities in the areas..there made up educators, respectable business owners, and other professional individuals. People who are not only successful in their personal endeavors, but also their individuals lives, who know the secrets of being focused and driven to excellence. What do we get stuck with here in Painesville..I will end it there..

Sorry if your post didn't show up, language, and unknowm facts stop 3 of them. also the comment about the city forgiving half the money the school board owed to the city for permits I did get verification. That was passed by city council.
Secret's of focused and driven to excellence? Look what we got stuck with her in Painesville. I will start it there. What focuse and excellence have we had here in the last two decades? High taxes and very little enforcement of laws.

The school only paying half the amounts for permits..not surprising, ask them the last time they paid their fees for false alarms..at least a half dozen of them a week..
And you're right..it is time for shake up on council, but not only the long timers..a few short timers need to go as well..
Congrats to all who desire to be civic-minded and run for the office of Council At-Large in the city of Painesville. Three positions are up for grab. These three positions encompass the entire city and not the specific area that you live in. You must be willing to work with and compromise with the individuals that have been elected to each ward. You cannot just trespass and do your own thing in any specific ward area as has been witnessed before.
Rule of thumb in any election, and for those that seek the big change and new voices, is that all of them have to realize that the more folks that run for office the greater the split in votes. It is NOT productive to have the thought process that you vote for two! If there are to be great winners, the public must just support and vote for only one candidate.
It is obvious that all of the names of the petition folks want to be elected for just three positions. You cannot have 5 or 6 people running for only three positions as it has never worked in the past and will not work now. Oh, encourage your friend or girl friend to sign-up to run. Bingo, you have now just negated any votes for yourself.
Everyone runs on their own platform of policies, procedures, analysis of change and so much more.
For all of you that are trying to gain a seat on Painesville's Council; think about all who are running and just meet and get together to discuss your forward thinking and how so many of you (who desperately want a change) will not gain the change because there are way too many of you. Some people run for office on gut-level disgust, others run for office on impulse. The impulse folks need to understand that this does not work at all. As for any incumbent that may be coaching a candidate, this has not really worked in any local election either. Candidates are driven to run and defeat. If the incumbent record is like we have here, this coached person will be shot down.
Drive your own campaign without bringing others in.
Good Luck to all of you and please think real hard and strong what you have already placed before you. Pick your agenda for running and limit it to the THREE most important reasons why YOU should be the next elected OFFICIAL for the office of COUNCIL AT-LARGE in the city of Painesville. Totally think about what you would bring to this position that is not there and has never been there. Do you know about bookkeeping/finances, do you know about budgets, do you know about grant processes, do you know about zoning, EPA rules for clean water, and so so so much more?? As I cannot possibly list all avenues that you must deal with, you must think and think and think about how your attributes will fit-in and make the changes that you seem to feel are needed.
As for any Hispanic candidate, I do hope that any of you have assimilated yourself to everything that encompasses your new life here and you will apply any knowledge you have to all of the residents and not just to your community.
Please do not be offended by this comment but it seems the only people running are "baby boomers" no offense but dont you think you screwed thing up enough? How old were these candidates the first time they won an election. What can you possible do in the next 4 years you havent had a chance to do already. Brad Dean was a fresh voice in the last election and someone I voted for.

maddog, I think you and the other city employees should just hide in your kennels for awhile. You and all other city employees have lost any cedibility with the citizens of Painesville. Where is council, the city manager, police chief looking into the alleged statements about the employees of city hall. Does this mean if I start a blog. about you or any other employee of he city having an affair on city time and equipment you would let me go on spreading lies about you or anyone else. Shame on all of you that don't make the people running this city act. What if someone was making allegations about your wife. Would you not want hert name cleared? Maddog after the last incident at city hall do you think anyone would take a sexual harassment charge very serious? Ask your mother, wife, daughter, sister any female you hold in high regard what you should have done? Maybe if you went to your superior or even the city manager and explained that there must be some offical inquire you might have been surprised with the response. Chuckling at the water cooler probably left alot of women wondering about all of you.

The candidates must first and foremost get control back from the CM. They are the CM boss. They must demand hearing everything about a proposal to Painesville not just what she wants them to hear. End Joe Hadas Kabal he will never again look out for Painesville as long as three stooges go along with him. He helped a candidate at the last election for what? To keep his power base. Mr. Fountain in good consensus should have not run because of health issues. He doesn't even return phone calls. Joe is going to have to run on his 28 year record this time and people will be made aware of all of Painesvilles secrets, by George! all of it failures. Time for a new beginning. Like I said I would vote for maddog before I go down this path again. Joe is looking at the schools for his control to continue, what a pair.
