"GYPSY'S,TRAMPS, AND THIEVES"

Went back over alot of the past posts and it seems all the name calling are people complaining about someone who posted something "negative" about Painesville?
Ignorant, idiot, whiners and even racist were always directed to the poster in most cases, why? With the exception of someone calling the city leadership "buffons" who someone else corrected them on their spelling, I could not find posts where anyone from the city or school board were called these names. Why is it that if someone disagrees with someone they use these terms? I don't think it helps anyones argument.
Someone asked about why the different post on the power outage. Receiving no answers from the city, I went to the News-Herald web. site and I was amazed by all the comments left there. I got the impression there are more unhappy people in town than I thought.
Most people want he truth not someone to pretend everything is fine. One poster wanted better communication from the city, others are tired of the power being off three times in a week and could care less why. After the city claimed the outage was on First Energys side of the sub-station? The question from someone was why two of the boilers were off line at the same time, and the city knew power demand would skyrockets around 6:30 it does everyday?.... Proud to be on the list????

People called "ignorant", this does not mean they are stupid or dumb, it means they are un-educated on the subject they are posting about. If they decide to post about something of which they have no knowledge and someone else who has taken the time to look up the facts posts and tells them they are ignorant then that is thge correct use of the word. Yes, admit it, you get a lot of that on this board.

Whiners, this is someone who complains about everything and yet we never see them out actually making anything better. Yeah, admit it, you have a lot of those on this board also.

Racist, some of this has been mis-directed, but, when I read some of the comments on this board I also believe a lot of these people are racists.

I am one of those people who have experienced other power companies, I am also amazed that people complain about Painesville Power, do they realize when you are part of a bigger electric company sometimes you will wait DAYS to get power back after a storm. I guess I would call some of those complainers "ignorant".

People should just follow blindly, don't ask, assume everything is fine. Don't complain about something that happens over and over, just pay the man. Be glad you live where you live, people are fighting each other to take advantage of everything Painesville has to offer.
Stick it IDIOT!

So "stick it idiot" gets posted but I don't? I was one of your biggest supporters because you have the following and knowledge. I just hoped to see a more positive spin on things to get things done. I see that this post calls for less name calling and I find that very positive, because it gets nothing done. So I guess this won't get posted either? I have posted almost everyday to no evail so it appear that the TERM censor is out in full force only allowing the negative though the gates. True colors. And yeah, I imagine this will get posted in reality because someone wants to make a point. JT

Absolutely true.
HOWEVER, don't just blame Rita or the city for everything. Place the blame in the appropriate place and don't make comments without any information or a factual basis just because you want to blame the city so bad.

Ignorant is not name calling, sure it is derogatory but I believe it is a good way to describe someone who posts with no knowledge of the facts and makes assertions even though they don't know what's going on.

Idiot, "Buffons" (that still makes me laugh), and to some extent whiners can be grouped together but just using the word is different than giving a reason for believing something to be true. Then the reasons can be debated and the readers can decide for themselves.
Racist falls along the same lines. If used by itself it is just name-calling but if you expose the racial nature of a post then that can be debated and it adds to the discussion.

"I went to the News-Herald web."
Exactly, you went to the web. Not a news article but rather people posting from the community with no more knowledge than you. It turned out to be a situation of the blind leading the blind and many baseless accusations and complaints were made. We would all like quicker answers but incorrect answers help nobody.

I don't know why the boilers were off but I don't see how this matters. It still seems to me that even if they were offline the power would have continued to flow BUT FOR the first energy failure.

I went to the News-Herald site to see if they had a story on why the electricity went out. I was surprised at the comments that were made under the story. I didn't know there was that many people upset about the power outage, I didn't give an opinion one way or the other just the shere number of comments. People as a rule blame the person or company where they send their payment to, right or wrong thats who usually gets the blame. Finally the story was fact.

TERM the great allmighty censor.
He is always at work that is why you don't get the true posts you need to have a great blog, if you don't like bad words then XXXX them out, but don't edit the body of the post or delete the whole thing.

I don't use the bad words and everyone knows that. I may have been wrong and am big enough to admit that, if it is the case. TERM said that he posts what comes in and I have no proof otherwise, so I remain friendly. I understand how tough it can be to slide past foul language and insulting comments for sure. Name calling is never in order because to be honest, if someone called me names I don't give them the satisfaction of letting them see me upset. Truth be known...it makes them madder if they can not get a rise out of you. JT

"I didn't give an opinion one way or the other just the shere number of comments."

By posting the News Herald comments the way you did you certainly spread the negative rumors about the city. Which seems to be perfectly inline with your agenda. Some would argue that with no other comments denouncing the comments of the news herald site, you espoused their views thus at least impliedley giving your opinion. I don't think any regular on this blog failed to see the message you were sending.

Yes the story was a fact. The power was out, but the story was not complete. And before the truth was exposed you fostered the belief that the city provides poor service. So thank you for helping even more people look badly upon our city. Maybe there was a busniess out there looking to relocate to painesville and they ran across your site in researching the city. Maybe you just kept a bunch of jobs from coming to town with false rumors. Far-fetched yes, but you certainly aren't doing anything to help our image.

Great! now this blog site is the reason for job loss in town. Wake up the same people have been running Painesville for 25 years and its a steady downhill march. We have an asst. city manager making over $85,000 and he won't even live here. He would ratter live in the city that let him walk away. We have a law director sucking the city dry, and the manager has spent over a million dollars in outside legal advice. Why do we put up with this. First Energy to blame for Sunday and Monday? prove it.

Karen you have shown repeatedly that your characterization of every event is strictly construed to be a scandal. I would have alot more respect for the site if one single poster or the leader of this tribe himself were objective in some manner. The city and every official in it is guilty until proven innocent with you guys.

Probably not but can you tell me what this site has done positively for the city of Painesville?

It gave me and alot of others a place to vent our displeasure with whats going on around town. I guess there are more people in town tired of the things that go on around here, once we face the problems maybe we can start to fix them. Alot of people want to ignore whats going on in Painesville. The leadership of Painesville never took on a tough problem in along time.

The assistant city manager doesn't want to live here for a reason, over 80% of the citys employees don't reside in the city either,WHY? If its such a great place to live why doesn't anyone want to live here. Did you check theses figures out, yes I did and the second highest was almost 50%, not counting Waite Hill or Kirtland Hills, we are a city run by mercenaries adj. serving only for money. Negative comments are not Painesvilles problem.

Maybe they don't live here because there racists? What the work in Painesville and see all of our "Diversity" and maybe they reject the concept? Want their kids in better schools, ect. Look anyone who complains about illegal aliens in Painesville is targeted as a racist, maybe they decide to grab a check but not the things that come with it?

The poster (Ethel) that said 80% of city workers don't reside in the city, knows that is not true.

Ethel (city employee) you should not post things you know are not true.

Do the negative comments on here help?
Wouldn't ideas for positive change help more?

I got the answer from Jennifer Bell at city hall it was 56 employees. Another unanswered question, gets answered.
Ethel must of known what she was talking about?

Ethel must have gotten it right. I don't see why she couldn't have just provided that info earlier. Instead she created more work for you. We still don't know how ethel knew ahead of time tho.

At January 30, 2009 at 8:12 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why is it important how Ethel knew the answer. The fact is she knew her facts and stated them here. You complain that people make unfounded statemtns here, well she knew what she was talking about. can't make you happy.
