"THE SECOND TIME AROUND" shalmar

A little Disco?

Say it again

All  that I've been through
I'll do it again

Well second "Meet The Candidate Night" was last night , offhand many more direct and better questions. We touched just about everything. From the Fire Department, Economic Development, Opioid's, Downtown Architecture Review, Policy 413 as well as a Senior Center.

Padilla and Acosta are two big fans of our fire department, Chief Mlachak has two determined  supporters.

Although I'd like to see more diversity on council I believe Ms. Ferguson would be better suited on the School Board. That can also be said for Tracy Montgomery a staunch school supporter.

Heard about Economic Development but not one ide that could be taken to Doug Lewis or Cathy Bieterman an told try this or this is a plan?

Policy 413 it seems everyone believed illegal immigration is a federal responsibility and I guess we shouldn't involve city council?

Councilman Fodor seemed the most prepared as well as Tom Fitzgerald and Hal Werner.

So to handicap the race we can assume DiNallo , Fodor and Fitzgerald retaining their seats on council. That said very few Painesville resident's care or even know about Councilman Fitzgerald's absences.  Then again if there s all this anger about Illegals in Painesville Werner should win that seat easily? The question is  that anger from 4 or 5 people that come to this blog. or is it city wide issue? Election Day will tell us if this is a real concern of Painesville resident's.

My biggest fear is that it always seems council becomes advocates for the city administration and not the resident's of the city. That's how we end up with screwy vacant property laws, kickbacks to the city on garbage pick-ups and outrages electric purchases.

Fire department got lots of shout outs and support from most of the incumbents.
Just whats with that?

If everyone thinks that immigration is a federal concern, and that we shouldn't involve city council, then why is city council, who runs this city, involving themselves in breaking federal laws on immigration? That's a scapegoat statement to protect the illegals and to exonerate city council. Sorry, city council and city of Painesville, nobody I know is fooled by you. Hopefully we'll have the feds here, sooner rather than later, to check this all out.

If I can't make a confident "yes" vote on the drug issue, I'm voting no. I'm not going to guess a "yes" vote on something I don't fully understand the implications of, and I still don't have a clue.

It was clearly stated the city is not a sanctuary one by most there. Mr. Fitzgerald doesn't give a fig if his neighbor is illegal - well move where a church, city buildings and a happy superintendent isn't your neighbor then see what you get. Ms Padilla was just appalled didn't seem to be able to finish answering. Her citizenship numbers don't add up. Is her husband a citizen? Landscaping business was crammed down our throat by the 2 Hispanic ladies. Personally I dont need a landscaper but I do need a local grocer that can speak English and sell more than Mexican food, which I also do not need. Funny but sad story, I went into LaMexicana for some hair gel. They kept trying to sell me Jello. Several seem better suited for a school board not council.

1:51, you may not want to share this information, but I was wondering who you were going to vote for? I'm a little confused still, and am looking for all the information and opinions that I can get.

Okay, the Issue 2 drug issue is finally clear. The publication given out by Jon Husted, Ohio Secretary of State, explains in detail what it is. And it IS a scam, just like it seems to be. I don't know why the ads against it weren't more clear. The four individual sponsors responsible for circulating the petition get the unprecedented right to defend legal challenges to the law. Three of those four are employed by the petition funder. They will no doubt be suing constantly, and those four people will be benefiting constantly by having all their lawsuits payed by the citizens of Ohio. God only knows how many lawsuits there will be, and how many people they will be employing to carry out how many lawsuits. Win or lose, there will be no cap on the total amount of attorneys fees and expenses. The explanation from the secretary of state goes on to say it is costly, deceptive and unworkable. So it is just a big, fat scam. How dare these creepy people come here to our state and try to mislead and deceive us this way. It's shameful what goes on in the United States now. So that is definitely a "no" vote for me.

On another note, I never thought I would hear myself say this, but Hal Werner seems like the best candidate to me, along with Tracy Montgomery. Hoping for someone to watch the barn door, and hoping for some intelligent changes around this ridiculous city.

6:41 Seems like the administration as well as council is heading in a direction that wouldn't be lawful?

I have to ask if Hal was your Council person when he was in office?
If not, you need to do some research about him.
If he was, you were asleep.
Hal was a complete embarrassment to Ward 2 using his position to rail against Jackie's and driving his one trick pony under the guise of following the law.
I will admit that Fitzgerald leaves something to be desired but at least we don't have to listen to him pontificate at the end of EVERY Council meeting.
I don't know enough about their opponent but I will learn.
IMO, Hal is NOT worth a vote.

3:53, this is 6:41. Yes, I know what a complete A$$ Werner was. Can't stand the guy; I think his moral code is crap, and I think he's an idiot. I'm picking what I think is the lesser of the evils. Like I said, I never thought I would hear myself say this...but that's who I picked. I don't think we can leave the people in office who let management do whatever they want, without any real input. It's supposed to be the council who run the city, not the manager. I don't like the decisions they have made as far as businesses in the city (buildings), parking garage, senior center, etc., and letting the law be broken willingly over the illegals in our city. They are going as far as purposefully writing a law concerning illegals here that breaks federal law, and were also very careful during the writing of that law not to OFFEND the illegals with any of the language. This city continues to turn to $HIT at a rapid pace, and they all just sit there. If Werner gets in, it will make me sick, but that's who I voted for. A vote for a Hispanic is a vote to continue losing our town and country.

3:53, it's a tough choice. It's suicide to vote for a Hispanic, and people who are already on council have voted for such things as the vacant property laws, the mafia garbage agreements they get us into, where it's mandatory, even under ridiculous circumstances, with the city getting a kickback on the citizens' backs, (as Term says in his main post), etc., etc. It's unbelievable what continues to go on in this city. We needed someone to run besides Werner and a Hispanic, but we didn't get it.
