"NEW KID N TOWN" eagles

Great expectations, everybody's watching you
People you meet, they all seem to know you.

Well, attended "Meet The Candidate Night" Thursday at Harvey and came away with one important thought do these "new" candidate's realize they are running to be the board of director's to a 75 to 80 million dollar enterprise?

Councilman Fitzgerald was out of the country will attend next months meeting. Not showing up might be good for 50 extra votes?

Two Fodor and DiNallo and probably Werner realize this isn't running the Downtown Painesville Organization? We are talking serious money here folks. Seems like most candidates serve on the DPO? Expect more cash flowing to them!

One suggested to hold more "Party in the Park to fund city employee salaries? Hell, I'm for turning the town over to the PCIC.
With many candidates claiming departments are all understaffed.

Everyone was for the road, fire and school levy although Ms. Furguson hadn't decided on the school levy yet.

Were any of them versed in AMP-OHIO? Waste Management $9,500 kickback to the city? Do they realize the infrastructure needs of our city? I would have liked to know if any of them knew the general fund budget for this year?

Do any of them have any new ideas to bring good jobs and capital to Painesville? This city cannot and will  not survive on $8.00 job wages.  Everyone talked about economic development but not one idea was presented.

Councilman Fodor suggested a 'new' community center as well as bringing the Senior Center back into Painesville.

Hal Werner spoke of 'law and order'

Maybe at the next meeting we can understand how much these candidates know about Painesville and it's finances?

This ain't the Painesville Garden Club ladies and gentlemen.

If Fodor is so keen on getting the Senior Center back into Painesville, why did he let the first one leave?

I agree with just about everything you wrote on this subject but I have to ask a question.
Are they the leaders of our City or are they just led around by the Administration?
Off the top of my head, I can not think of a single item or rule that the Administration has wanted that did not get the approval of council. The is regardless of who the CM has been.
Can you remember any?
Not every Administration plan or idea is a good one. The actual execution can leave even more to be desired. Look to the vacant property legislation as an example of power going to people's head.

Imagine my shock that Fitzerald was not in attendance. It has been that way for four years of his time on Council.

If Fitzgerald promises to not show up for any council business, he's got my vote!

I was there my takeaway is the "new" candidates probably have no clue what a councilperson does except maybe for Ms. Fergerson but I wonder if she has time for it with all she does. I also wonder why Fitzgerald even has the nerve to run when he can't bother to show up. Does anyone know the percentage of his physical presence at council meetings? I hope somebody asks him if he shows up in October, I'm not planning on going to that one I've seen enough.

According to the Lake County Election Board, Ms. Ferguson didn't support the levy in 2013 so we shouldn't be surprised that she is not supporting the School Levy today. Sad.

This city gets what it deserves. I have watched for the last 40 years as knowledgeable candidates are turned down by the people so we can have a high school homecoming type popularity contest instead.

4:35 Yes, it's like a Homecoming Court.
8:31 She didn't vote right?

3:44 A few times maybe two council people objected but were outvoted by the majority. That's why they love unanimous votes. They don't want to get into the day to day operation of the city. And legally the charter is written not to let them (Thank-you Ms. McMahon)

Jim Fodor did not let the Senior Center leave the City of Painesville. The Center sold their building to the County. They have a tempory Center in the YMCA which is in the City Limits. They are currently looking to build a new center in the City of Painesville. Councilman Fodor was the only candidate who spoke favorably of a future Senior Center. To suggest differently is just more "fake news".

I understand that Tom Fitzgerald is not the ideal Councilman but he will get my vote. A vote for Ana Padilla will only help "Crazy Hal". We need to go forward not backward.

Many and most of the candidates spoke of the schools. Seems they would be better fit for the school board election not council? Yes, I know school and city have to work together - but everyone on that panel has or had close connections to PCLS. Either working for, worked for or has children attending. This is COUNCIL - run for the school board. Kudos to Ms Ferguson and Acosta for not speaking their support as the schools need much improvement before voting for their levy too.

Term and 435. I find both of you funny, your council people have a very high degree of education. Two were teachers, admidstrators, one has a masters degree in public admidstrator, and that is not what I would call a homecoming court. The do reject things but it’s in closed meeting when they look over to see what they will meet on. As far as the senior center they were offer two options and refused both. So I have no idea what Mr. Fodor could have done. You have good people working for all you and all you do is complain no matter what they do..

11:56 High degree of education but lacking in basic common sense. The brains of the outfit was 100% behind AMP-OHIO yet the least educated tried to sound a warning. Many poor decisions over the years. How do you know what goes on in closed meetings?
The good people working for me? look at the city over the past 25 years that's what I'm complaining about. Overall deterioration of the city, property values, business climate.
5:27 Pouring more money down a dark hole?
8:21 How long before another council person decides "well if Tom can miss so can I?" Or the other six get tired of holding his hand up?

So, if we take what you write at face value, you are saying that Council meets behind closed doors to make the "real" decisions?
Uh, I would have to believe that this would violate every rule concerning open meetings.

BTW unless you are on Council, which I doubt, how would you know what happens in a "closed meeting"??

Just so you know, a high degree of education does NOT mean that a person is smart. It simply means that they completed a course of study that gave them a degree. That degree could be in philosophy, music, or physical education. Does that make them qualified to operate a city?

Don't ask me to vote for the Fire Levy and Road Levy and then tell me you don't support the School Levy. Shame on Ms Ferguson and Ms Acosta.

Ok Term you don't like Tom. So who you voting for Ana or Hal?

Ask the candidates about the housing prices, you had a post on Lusard Street in August 2015.

Fodor supports the senior center. A lot of candidates support many things here BUT where is the money going to come from? Dinallo was the only one that said it - this city NEEDS MONEY.
Some eluded to fund raising? Let's hold a bake sale? More parties in town? Just how many of these parties that we have are so well attended they bring in the bucks? Or are they being done away with due to poor attendance.
WE NEED businesses - tax based industry, restaurants, hotels, grocers and shopping to snap this place out of its problems.
Economic Development needs to get on the ball - how long do we need to wait? How many more businesses need to leave?

Yep, what a choice.
We get to choose from:
Tom "I am out of the country again" Fitzgerald,
Hal "Jackie's needs to go" Werner, and
Ana "No one knows me" Padilla.

In the mean time Fodor has three opponents and DiNallo has none!!
How did this happen??

Truthfully, Hal was my Councilman and Tom has been an empty seat.
A new face might not be so bad.

11:08 That's a decision you will have t make.
We vote on starting dates now not the 3 top vote getters.
5:29 you hit the nail on the head, we need good paying jobs and the rest will fall in order..
7:57 Blast from the past?
5:08 So I don't like Tom? Just wish he was around more. Who I or anyone else votes for is their reason and business.
5:06 How much additional money do the schools need, and for what purpose? None of the city levies goes to wages.
4:03 Maybe it's a councilperson telling us this?

The school people were out stumping Saturday - I got a wave - no one stopped to talk and I had questions and concerns. Too Bad for them. ANYONE considering voting for another school levy needs to pull out their tax enclosure where there is a breakdown showing where all the tax money goes. Any guess?
Yep the schools get the most and still want more. Get rid of 3 and 4 administrators per school. Get rid of the over abundance of secretaries. Call other schools, see how many administrators and secretaries are cross trained to do more than one job duty. This is a small, failing district. And get rid of the illegals and no-good-nicks that do not want to be there. This is not the same system anymore.

12:34 Got a better one than that the City of Painesville and RITA want to know why I no longer pay city income tax? Well I been retired 5 years and now they ask? I'll tell them forget the income tax I'll give them 50% of all wages someone they think might have paid me.

I can top your city tax, a friend got a letter to bring in copies of her taxes for 2012 through 2015 and she has lived in township for the last 10 years, I also got a letter to bring in 2012 through 2015 so they can see if I owe more, no worries though as I have paid my taxes, why are they allowed to harass people like this, they have to lose a day of work and or the expense of making a lot of copies and postage to send 5 years of taxes in the mail, I bet most of the people they are harassing are the ones who don't owe anything and they're not going after the correct ones

At October 10, 2017 at 12:10 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Really? Retired folks don't have to pay city tax? Something to look forward to in my golden years.

At October 10, 2017 at 4:35 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

8:40 Hope they can come up to the hospital? That's where they will find me.
12:10 No retired people don't pay income tax on Social Security and Pensions if they get one. Trust me most of us wish we were able to pay an income tax! This is simple harassment or at least just a fishing expedition.

At October 11, 2017 at 11:26 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry I dont follow. Why would someone want to pay income tax when upon retirement one usually only makes half as much?

At October 13, 2017 at 4:24 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm retired and on Social Security and I bet I pay more taxes than Donald Trump...Sad

The City has nothing to do with collecting your income tax except set the rate, and voters have to agree to that. They contacted with RITA or CCA to do it for them, and since they spend the majority of their year doing nothing, requesting your data is how they justify their existence. I once had CCA demand that I supply proof I wasn't a City resident, or else pay up. I laughed all the way to the garbage can.
