COUNCIL MEETING 01/03/17
Off to another start of jam packed council meetings?
An Ordinance as to take a loan out for $1,600,000 for things we have purchased in the past and haven't paid for yet. Administration claim they will pay it down $600,000 by the end of this year.
An Ordinance to change zoning from B-2 to R-1 for that development I mentioned before although it is just South of Windjammer's Court and North of Sanford St. Wonder why we skipped Zoning Commission? Public hearing at next council meeting.
Three Resolution's second reading for person , business, and organization of the year.
A Resolution to let the city manager put out for bids and purchase needed city items. (Everything from road salt to paper clips)
New Business; Utility Commission. That said they weren't even sure if they had past a Resolution for that yet? You must have you received applications from some people? For council people will have a 'work session' to decide what to do next? They seem to want professionals on this committee even going outside the city? Look it up the 'Professionals got us in this screwed up mess.
May I suggest Ray Sternot, Sandy Miller. the resident of the city that happens to work for First Energy and their choosing of a professional of their choice. One council member say Mike DeLeone to make five. This commission will revue every electric deal or major water project in the city. They will be responsible for the transparency on our utility bills.
Unlike when Meigs County or Prairie State was presented by AMP-OHIO they will share their findings with council and the administration without a three minute rule. There will be times when they might even agree on a good venture.
]I was thinking about this. Every bill I receive Gas Co. Telephone, Cable comes with a return envelope. Ever wonder over all the decades the money Painesville has saved on not providing a simple return envelope?

Each item:
What did we buy, for that amount, that hasn't been paid for?
Why hasn't it been paid for?
You mean the Planning Commission never saw this or approved of it to go before Council?
If that is true, why were they skipped?
Why wouldn't Council let the CM purchase everything they need. It worked well with Mr Carson, right?
I agree with you, the members of any such Commission should include at least a couple of residents. You know, people who pay the bill and don't have anyone greasing their backside. For God's sake, do NOT have the former CM (or anyone else who was involved at that time) on this Commission.
9:13 Everything from screwdrivers to dump trucks. I'll try to get a list.
I don't think planning or zoning looked at this? Will find out.
CM purchases SOP they does this every year.
That may be the way we think it should be, but they want people who have backgrounds to lose 3/5 millions of dollars.
todays legal notices shows painesville is accepting bids for about 1 million dollars for new construction for new offices. the question is where and for what?
one comment on these commissions; do they have teeth? what is the point of being on a commission if council is going to do what it wants?
When the city was signing up for the AMP contract there was one important part of the equation missing; common sense. I believe that is what residents might bring to the table. Talking heads have not served this city very well. I consider this true for the architectural firm hired by McMahon and council for city our downtown "master plan" to the AMP contract. Even now, to tear down a perfectly good building (the old senior center) and allow the county to build another steel and glass structure when there are other buildings sitting on the square vacant is absurd. Why not save the historic buildings left and repurpose or reuse the buildings standing? The talking heads who have been hired in the past were expensive and only gave the city guidance when it served to line their own pockets with tax payer money.
Why would anyone sign up to volunteer their precious time to sit on a committee without the possibility to make a difference? it's not a social club or tea party.
8:07 You make a perfect point. Presently many in charge don't live here and their decisions won't impact them. I agree the people are better served with common sense.
8:07
IMO, the biggest reason that old buildings are not renovated is that the people in charge (spelled politicians) wouldn't be able to have a plaque with their names on it at the front door.
Really, if you think about it, why is ANY building named after any elected official? They get elected because they are popular.
It isn't like they are appointed by God or anything. For the most part they are self serving people with HUGE egos.
It will be interesting to see if the new building goes forward with new Commissioners in charge.
BTW, why are the buildings with names never something like a garage or storage shed? Because no one would care about those.
Also BTW, if you believe the County people, the old Sears building is beyond hope. Yeah, right!
I can't speak for you but Dominion stopped providing envelopes some time ago.
I merely fold the return part of the bill in half to be sure that their address shows and then tape it in place.
IOW, I use the same envelope to return my check to them.
I have been doing this for over a year and it hasn't failed yet.
9:25 Odd they still send me one? How about the rest of you?
9:10 I guess I always believed if you want your name on it pay for it?
7:55 That million dollar bid is for the 'INSIDE' of the new maintenance building on Storr St. You have to attend council meeting to have it explained to you. I won't even try.
Speaking of politicians names on buildings, airports and bridges. Found it hard to believe our county engineer was let off the hook for the Vrooman Bridge. The new commissioners should have found and asked a few more questions on accountability.
I remember Ohio Bell saying how they were saving us money by removing the cellophane protector from that little window where the address shows thru. Kind of like the store asking if you want a paper receipt or an email receipt. I let them pay for the paper and ink. That's just what I need, another email.
The Sears building definitely could be renovated. The ground floor is fine. The second floor is still gutted from the fire, but look at the renovation that was done on the Steele Mansion and it was in much worse shape than the Sears Building. I really hate to see that torn down.
8:25 No one has the vision or love to save the Dorothy Allen Building. Steele Mansion was one of those one in a million. Thank the Shamakians.
7:25
Potter,
I wasn't aware of that. If true, and I have no doubt that it is, then the voters have taken a royal screwing. It has now been over 2 1/2 years with nothing to show except some land that was cleared in the first month. In the mean time, we have all parties pointing fingers at one another. IMO, they should ALL be completely embarrassed.
The existing road and bridge continue to get worse with absolutely no maintenance done on them. Eventually the bridge will get so bad that it will have to be closed and there will be nothing in the works to replace or rebuild it.
Yep, we have a bunch of County hacks and ODOT goofs that have done nothing to get the project (which we didn't need in the first place) going again.
I wish people would remember that when it is time to vote for the County Engineer. He is apparently above shame.
GASP! I just paid my Macy bill. OMG No envelope. What should I do??? Sorry peeps, I gots bigger things to worry and fuss about besides not having an envelope. Pay On Line.
9:19
It is great that you have "bigger things" to worry about.
I didn't take Term's comment as anything more than an observation.
Apparently you did.
Observation? Not for a minute: Ever wonder over all the decades the money Painesville has saved on not providing a simple return envelope? He asked a question to stir the stuff.
12:41 It was purely an observation. What's to stir what stuff? Please explain?
