" PAINESVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETING 12/19/16
FYI ---TODAY AT 8;00 AM THE COUNCIL MET FOR THE SECOND READING OF THE THREE ITEMS THAT MUST BE VOTED ON BEFORE THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. TOMORROW THEY WILL HAVE THE THIRD READING AND VOTE ON THOSE ITEMS.
Before I go any further'
My deepest sympathy for the passing of a wonderful Husband and Father. This weekend I learned of the passing of Councilwoman Lori DiNallo husband Michael. The community as a whole will keep this family in our prayers.
Well tonight was the first meeting of council with our new city manager Monica Irelan. She seems to have jumped right into the position. If you didn't know better you would have assumed she had been around here for a while.
Also we have a new Clerk of Council, Vallerie Vargo welcome on board.
During the visitor time many residents complained about the lack of understand and transparency in their electric bills. Again the PCA was brought into question. The price of electricity hasn't changed in over 20 plus years, but the PCA changes monthly. Its like a gas station advertising the price of gasoline at $1.09 + the GCA (gasoline cost adjustment) which can change daily. One resident compared his electric bill with a First Energy bill as he owns homes in both areas. First Energy lays it all out for him monthly as well as the option of purchasing power from a different company. Can't do that in the ville'. Councilman Fodor wants to early in the next year to have a study on the future of our power plant. Sounds like a good idea. Is it just me, or is Councilman Fodor seems to be getting attacked from all sides?
Something I hope all resident's realize your bill from the city includes the electric, water and sewer charges on one monthly bill. I know of no other community in this area that does this.
No legislation could be passed as I have mentioned Mrs. DiNallo absence as well as Tom Fitzgerald being excused. Some legislation, Ordinances have to be passed before the first year so expect another council meeting before the first of the year.
Also it was brought up as a zoning change for the area at Richmond St. and Skinner Ave. for a proposed 16 unit condominium complex to be built on tat site.
The Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce announced
2017 Citizen of the Year Jeanette Crislip
2017 Business of the Year Martin's Nursery
2017 Heritage Award Project Hope for the Homeless
As a Christmas present to council as well as the administration I decided not to wreak HAVOC tonight!
9 Comments:
Nothing against them but Jeanette Crisp is a life long township resident and former Trustee.
Unless they have moved and I missed it, Martin's Nursery is in Perry.
The awards are for the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
Does anyone understand why these are an item of any attention at a Painesville Council meeting?
What am I missing?
7:46 I guess tradition? Not one of the three are in Painesville?
Must be am outgrowth of the Painesville Chamber of Commerce.
Is it the Painesville Chamber of Commerce or the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce?
If in fact the Eastern Chamber then their choice make sense. Painesville is not only the city but all 44077.
The former "Painesville Area Chamber of Commerce" included Painesville, Painesville Twp., Concord Twp., Leroy Twp, Grand River and Fairport. It has always been customary for each of the municipalities to have the winners announced and in turn an official proclamation is issued by each to be awarded to the recipient at the awards dinner.
The Painesville Area Chamber of Commerce merged this past year with the Madison/Perry Chamber of Commerce to form the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce to consolidate operations and expenses as well as to promote the communities with one another.
6:13/7:01 The agenda didn't mention either. but before the presentation it was mentioned that it was the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commence.
The question remains, why is this an item on the Painesville Council's agenda?
We have enough problems to solve within the City.
"Atta-Boys" don't do anything to solve them.
More back slapping by politicians.
Tom Fitzgerald misses another meeting? Did anyone give a reason? So now in this holiday season meetings must be held in the morning to the fact that people are missing? Mrs. DiNallo had a reason sadly a death in her family, what about Tom? I don't feel sorry for the rest of council only because they condone his let him disrespect his obligation. How that man cashes that check from the city is beyond me. Time for citizens to get him out of there!
So Council has to have back to back meetings to meet the letter of the law because of, what?
Some people aren't doing their jobs in a timely manner?
How is it that so much legislation MUST be passed on an "emergency" basis and yet no one is held accountable for it?
Do we end up paying the Council members for these meetings because of fellow Council members not making the regular meeting (thinking of you Mr Fitzgerald)?
I really can not see a valid reason for this to occur.
Time to hold people accountable for missing deadlines.
8:30/3:06 They keep excusing him without a reason given? I don't feel sorry for them. They could solve the problem if they wanted to but I guess 8:00 am meetings is the way they want to go. I would hope he donates his check to a charity. He defiantly doesn't earn one. Now Tom might be a nice guy but why he took this responsibility on is beyond me?
Was someone pulling strings?
