Your love is fadin', I feel it fade
Ah, your love is fadin' I feel it fade

Well an Executive Meeting will be held Friday to seal the fate of our City Manager Tony Carson.
The car's been turned in, the desk emptied. and he is presently on 'vacation.'

Now how much will it cost the city to have him resign? Well, he's never been fired before? Remember when he is fired council CANNOT vote in Executive Session. That vote will have to be made public. The reason for the vote won't be. But I believe the vote should be made public.
It's time for the grown-ups on council, who am I kidding?

If you would ask every council person today the vote would be 7-0 not me! Well it seems this council has an obligation to show the vote as well as reasons?

Now if Mr. Carson resigns no vote or reason has to be shown. But if he does resign that will cost the City of Painesville extra money for that to happen.

I thought Mr. Carson had fulfilled his job as city manager and resident's need to know what council has witnessed that the rest of us haven't? Reprimands of employee's and or Department heads fine let's drag that out into the open expose the wounds!

Let's talk about a foreman fired for patching incident's that took place at the Power Plant? Let's talk about a $10,000 hole dug by a contractor, that we paid for? Has a secretary been let do recently, a building inspector over the parking garage? Let it all hangout. From department heads being reprimanded and calling council over their treatment by Mr. Carson let's hear it all!

How many stupid project's did our city manager inherit by the past administration?

Happy employee's? What a crock the only person that can make you happy at your job is simply yourself. I missed that day I guess. I always thought if I took a job I agreed to do the job. Never had anyone claim it was there to make me happy?

The Painesville workforce had become fat and lazy with the last administration and some employees also being rude. Many forgot who was paying them. Plus the culture of the former CM still  rambles around here.

No this council loves to pretend the Titanic isn't sinking as well with no clue how to save it. (If it can even be saved)  Rumors abound that they already have started with the interview process.

In finishing our last CM couldn't make a pimple on the A## of  our present  CM! You voted for these people you live and pay  with their results.

Should make for an interesting weekend!

Drove past power plant and it was running today! The cooling things were making lots of noise and steam. Haven't seen that in years.

So Tony Carson is losing his job because he had the nerve to actually hold city workers accountable, which hurt their feelings, so they whined about it to their enablers, aka City Council? With this move, I guess the concepts of doing one's job and treating the customer (us taxpayers) with respect are now old-fashioned and out of place. Since Council seems to care more about themselves than those they represent, they've set quite the example for the city workers who place themselves above those they are supposed to serve.

I'd like to talk to you about those open wounds Mr Carson left. Are you aware of how many were fired, quit or reprimanded and belittled to make them leave?

6:10 Well this is operation 'Peak Shaving'. Painesville agrees to operate it's power plant when conditions like 90 degree weather and the price off the grid goes up astronomically. Expect two weeks of operation. Those are the cooling towers you hear.
11:11/ 7:52 Yes I also want to hear it all! Think we will?

Let's open Pandora's box. I want to know why department heads call people on council to complain about the city manager reprimanding them, even to the point of wanting him reprimanded? I want to know why these department heads were reprimanded? Abusing employees under them? I want to see the evidence against Mr. Carson as well as why city ordinances put him in that position?
I believe the majority of resident's would agree on the reprimands? No the people on council that instigated this are like rats that will never reveal themselves. But they did protect their buddies. Citizens should demand reasons. And ladies your first up!
Yeah I know where this came from and by who! I'm looking for the why? Besides hearing about rakes as well as the "N" word, it ain't a joke. Or berating employee's under them at an emergency situation just for showing up?. Your up council let's see what the people think? There's so much it's discussing. Let's pull back the rug!

If we can have a town hall meeting about asphalt I sure hope we can a town hall meeting about the firing of Tony Carson. From a residents standpoint...... The streets look better, the town looks better, he answered my emails. i didn't see a problem. Council gave the City Manager powers beyond their control because the tail was wagging the dog. I absolutely want to know what the severance package is and just how much asphalt that might have bought. Council could have dealt this much differently and felt Carson could have been to finish out his contract.

How is it possible under his time here the headlines of the News Herald where glowing with new jobs and money coming to Painesville.
What will the headlines be tomorrow?

Does council have a plan and another CM ready to take the helm? And please tell us it's not Eugene Toy from Galion, Ohio and Rita McMahons cousin!

When did council make this move and how long has Carson been gone? Formal statement should have been immediate! So much for transparency in government.

Will there be lawsuits coming from Carson or former employees? Where is Gurley in all this?

This was handled so poorly by council. We are listening and you guys are silent!

Unless you, Mr Term or you, Ms Potter have spoken to past employees, (bet you have not) you two have no idea the %#@@ Mr Carson put people through. And you two have no right to demand the things you do. Employees files are open records. Go to city hall, ask to see them and then speak to those employees in person. There are always two sides to a story.

At July 28, 2016 at 6:37 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

3:34 I can not speak for Ms. Potter but as a resident I am aware you make a comfortable living. You also have union representation. If anyone is abusing you. Are protected by union representation which over 80% of the private workforce is not. I would never question what you have been through only the what happened next? Did the union fail to represent you? If so why have that representation? Honestly your paying for it. Or after review did the union decide you might be in the wrong? Just because you see it a certain way doesn't make it right? Myself I don't want to go through files. I want the best value for my tax dollars and with some of the things I have heard that isn't happening around here. I will tell you over the years council has made ordinances where a council person can't intersexed with the dealings of any employee. Thank your council. All any of us 'demand' is an honest day's work for an honest day pay.

Sounds like an invite to me...
How does the unwelcome public stay after closing time and who's propping open which door?

Nowhere in my post did I reference employees other to wonder about the possibility of lawsuits. I have very little contact with city hall or employees of the city. I was simply posting on my observation as a tax paying resident. Didn't council extend Carsons contract recently? So if we pay attention to council meetings, and try to stay somewhat informed, this decision came out of the blue. To my knowledge no grievances were filed publicly. Executive sessions are not open to the public, where much of this is discussed. I will not be going to city hall to look at anyone's files. My post is simply about coucil remaining silent on this and the conundrum of bringing new needed business and tax base to the city and then firing the guy who brought it here. Council has also given the CM almost omnipotent power, thank Rita McMahon for that. I would have rather seen council rescind some of the CM's power, not approve an extended contract and then send him packing. Council should have stepped up to the plate and dealt with Carson in a business like fashion and kept the residents informed. As an employee of government agency you have representation and the ability to file grievances. It you're working in the government and the political arena you're job is under the microscope with each regime change. I applaude Carson for firing the Mr Lewicky our past engineer and a few others who were dead weight. I sincerely had my reservations about him when he employed his old cronies to study our flooding issues when we should have kept those dollars local as we had all the knowledgeable people needed within a 100 miles radius of Painesville. I attended council and voiced my objections but once again Council wrote the check. What did that check buy us? Did Carson hire other cronies, I don't know.
I'm not sure how resident would know or care to know about personnel or human relations at city hall. If there is proof that can be upheld in a court then pursue it through those avenues. If there is no evidence than it is called hearsay.......
3:34 if you are an employee, I have to ask, do you live in the city of Painesville? We might be looking at this from completely different viewpoints........ both views might be somewhat clouded.

6:27 - Yes there is a union at the city but not all employees are in the union. As with most places, there are exempt employees. Those people do not have union coverage. Ohio, is an At-Will state therefore those not protected may be eliminated without reason. Think the past few department heads who were let go. It was suggested you GO to city hall and research those you are speaking of but you are too lazy to do this on your own and you just want someone else to to the dirty work by airing all the dirty laundry on your blog. Unless you have walked the walk you shouldn't talk the talk.

At July 29, 2016 at 8:42 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

6:47 I've got enough dirty laundry to open a Laundromat!
So if a CM feels a director is incompetent he's stuck with them?
And have council people meddle into it?
I guess I see to much walking and very little talking?
Dirty Laundry in Painesville!
5:04 AMEN!
4:32 By state law they can refuse to sit in on this meeting. But sooner or later the dollar number's have to be shown. See it's not their money it's yours!

Just a thought, after thinking about this I'm really not that bothered by Mr. Carson leaving. In the long run council might have done him a favor? Good chance he will end up in a better place with a better job and more appreciate people around him. Although some of you around here might believe that Painesville is the Cat's A##! it ain't. To some of you where will Painesville go from here? Nobody's beating down the door?
To some of you who might believe I hate Painesville? No I have a genuine love and I can't take the mismanagement of the town I was born in being destroyed my mindless people! Believe it or not. If your happy with what you witness around here, God Bless You.

I guess it's safe to assume, no one at city hall has a clue about social media?
And why is it two days before August the June 20 meeting is still being televised on channel 12? What are they hiding?

Funny that you should mention "social media" as it seems to get mentioned at just about every Council meeting. This is especially true if the talk is about the Economic Development people.
It sounds like we (the tax payers) are paying someone to post stuff on Facebook and/or Twitter.
What a waste of man-hours.

why don't they make Mr. Lewis the city manager and forego hiring an unneeded assistant, he does alot of the work anyhow, we could use the money elsewhere, and for the record I don't like him either but if we're stuck with him than why not

At July 29, 2016 at 5:38 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

1:56 Well they turned him down last time? I do agree a city of our size doesn't need as an assistant CM. And the only real reason Mr. Lewis was hired was Ms. McMahon didn't want to attend evening meetings and functions!
12:49 Would it surprise you of the number of people who believe this is a city site and I'm paid by the city?

At July 30, 2016 at 5:13 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Promoting Mr. Lewis to CM would be the worst thing we could do. Remember in his current position he is head of the Building department and Economic Development. The Building department is totally dysfunctional and Economic Development has not brought much development over the last few years.

I am not a city employee, but have been told by several employees that no one trusts him.

At July 30, 2016 at 8:30 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

5:13 Mr. Lewis has stated he doesn't want the job. Would you want to work for these goofs?

At July 30, 2016 at 8:30 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well the NH provided no information other than Carson is gone and Lewis is temporarily filling in as acting CM. The shame of this lack of info is that it only feeds the rumor mill and I've heard a lot of rumors. Carson mismanaged the water intake line, the parking garage, the Building Codes, the new garage on Storres Avenue. I heard he set up a shell company to divert funds. I heard that he and the Chief Building Director were in cahoots. I heard that he was confrontational with Division Heads, Local Merchants and the Senior Center. This gossip is unfair to the community, the residents, the employees and Mr. Carson. I'm sure most of it is pure bunk. With that being said, Council must explain why they would give him a vote of confidence in January and then ask him to resign in July. If they aren't transparent, then the rumors will continue to grow, negativity will prevail and any chance of a Police levy, A road renew levy, or a Fire renew levy passing will be nil.

You are the one wanting a mayor here. A mayor does not work alone, same as a CM. There is usually a second or third hand person in the mix. Someone would still be needed to run the economic and building departments. So please explain how does having a mayor save money?

At July 30, 2016 at 10:05 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Well it may or may not. First the CM does not run the city alone. They hire Directors to oversee the different departments
This would be the same as a what I would expect a Mayor to do?
We wouldn't have an Assistant Mayor?
Plus the Mayor would not me insulated from residents, or serve at the whim of a few council people who might have a stick where the sun don't shine!
Every four years he or she could be challenged or at least have to show their accomplishments.

8:30 What next he was running a sex-slave ring out of city hall? No don't ever expect transparency from council it's not their nature. They and they alone know best. Yes the rumor's will grow fueled by a council and administration who appears not to be want held with any responsibility. If he did some of the things mentioned shouldn't council bring criminal charges? What a bunch of B.S.
Levies? By the end of this first road levy most council peoples streets will have been repaired. Look for Skinner Ave. next year along with W. Jackson St. Throw in that other major artery Levan Dr. Sorry Mike you live on a new street!

Carson was a rude sob and I am glad to see him go. I would also like to see a total turnover of this useless council. Only good thing they did was get rid of Carson who they should have never hired in the first place
