The City Believes the Main Street Streetscape is a viable addition to Painesville and would like to expand it. ( Over my dead body)
Councilman DeLeone claimed there's nothing the city can do about the schools but are roads are improving and we have a low crime rate. To which a lady in the audience chimed in my house has been broken into three times in the last few years. Tough Crowd!
Most interesting thing I found out?
We talked about the Land Bank. I was told it had nothing to do with the City or County they operate separately. They acquire property when the land owner or the value of the property doesn't cover property taxes. When questioned further the city on Land Bank property cannot enforce vacant property fines and fees? You pay, government well doesn't . The city has no say in what ever the Land Bank decides to do or dispose of a property.

I am surprised no one brought up a question of why our codes are Monday through Friday codes only.
I always get a chuckle at the houses you can predict as of Sat morning they violate parking, garage sale, etc. codes and by Monday at 7am those violations disappear.
7:35 I brought that issue up to Mr. Lewis yesterday. You are 100% correct many know and understand when the cats away.
The city must realize the operation is a 7 day proposition not only for fire and police and utilities.

Terminal garage sales: The house on the corner of Liberty and Walnut AND Elm-Railroad. Both have yard sales constantly and nothing is Ever Done. This happens on Fridays also, so I'm not buying the "when the cats away" nonsense. Again, there are more blind eyes here than my eye doctors office.
Wondering if the city had an ordinance about black plastic in the window of buildings? Why can't anything be done about the old educational supply building? And I see more sheets hanging from Windows than I care to count! Nothing is done.

In light of the comments about the perpetual yard sale at Walnut and State St, I have to wonder why they are permitted to have paper, plastic, sheets, whatever covering EVERY single window in that house??
I can only imagine what the place must look like inside since all of the "sale" items have to go somewhere during the week.
I haven't always been a fan of Arlene Becks, but I have to give her credit. She showed up at a recent Council Meeting and complain about the condition of Title Building on the corner of RT 20 and St Clair. Drove by the other day and it had been painted and landscaped. Way to go Arlene. Maybe Ms Becks can report Dollar Bank and the business with the black garbage bags in the window.
1:46 Let's say you and your neighbors spent 1.3 million dollars to spruce up your neighborhood and right in the middle sat a big faded unkempt blue building. Now if you were a resident in this neighborhood the city would hit Big Blues owner with numerous violations, and give them thirty days to correct all violations. Now give credit to Arlene for possibly getting the wheels in motion on getting that title building into shape.
I have to find out who the attorney for the Dollar Bank building is? Masterful.
Now the DPO puts a flier out with a picture of the Dollar Bank building in red brick and black awnings? Sorta this could be or more likely perpetrating a fraud? Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Maybe?
I better shut-up or the next thing I know citizen dollars will be used to rehab that building.

I read in that glossy flyer there were 15 new allotments over the past (?years, I recycled it) I tried to come up with the same number but couldnt come close. Some of the ones I could remember were well past the time frame mentioned. Can anyone help or was the figure inflated?
I heard a rumor, the County has asked for a conditional use permit to tear down the Mill Street Building and make a big parking lot. I know there was a fire in that building but I didn't think is was a lost cause. Why not rehab the building and make it a Senior Center?
5:07 The building is pretty much destroyed on the inside. If it wasn't why didn't the Health Department rehab it. I believe that's a start from scratch proposition. Drawbacks? Well as we know it's in a flood plain and flood insurance for a structure there would be expensive. I thought of that as a Senior Center also . But the cost are very high. I think the senior's did look into it.

Just a quick comment. I know you and this blog were instrumental in securing Painesville residents a better rubbish contract. Thank-you. Now my first thought was here we go again! I have called Republic twice, once about billing and once about services. Both times I was met by a friendly knowledgably person who knew the answer's to my questions. What a pleasant difference from Waste Management who appeared to believe they were doing you a favor by picking up your garbage. The savings this switch will come in handy almost $96.00 a year since we don't recycle. Again thanks.
I wish I could find that article but Kensington, Brentwood, College Hills are well past the years in the paper. Something like within a 12 year time frame.
