Maybe what 6:21 said will be on the agenda Monday? Someone needs to be checking on what's been going. If what's being said is true we just lost more money we can't afford to lose. The truth will prevail (hopefully)

Well, if you ever wanted to know the ridiculousness of living in Painesville, and why you don't want to live here or buy a home/building here, just read page 1 of the Painesville Pride this month. The city tells you all about buying a home in Painesville and what are the potential pitfalls for buyers and landlords. They say you need to contact the appropriate service providers to see if there are any outstanding fees or issues with the property. This includes the following, they say:

1) Check for outstanding Vacant Property Registration fees. If the property has been vacant for more than 90 days, past due fees may be owed, and if you don't pay them yourself, Painesville WILL NOT TURN ON THE WATER until they are paid.

2) Determine if the property is Non-Conforming. If the property has been vacant for over one year, then it could be non-conforming. It would have to be brought up to code and conform to the requirements of the zoning district in which it is located. This could mean, among other things, that it may no longer be able to be a duplex and you may be forced to build a garage.

3) If there are any liens placed on the property by the City of Painesville for grass mowing, etc., the new owner will need to pay them.

4) If there are any past due utilities owed (water, sewer and electric) by the previous owner or tenant, then the new owner will need to pay them.

5) Check with Waste Management to see if any past due fees are due for garbage pickup and recycling by the previous owner or tenant. Even if no unpaid debts are left (which apparently you will owe if there are), there is a MANDATORY payment for garbage, and if the building has been vacant, then you will owe for all the months it was vacant.

6) They tell you how you need permits for any work that will be done on the property, including an update in SIDING. Please. And I can tell you from the personal experience of buying a home here that needed work, that the inspector was an jerk, and it was such a ridiculous hassle attempting to work with her that we almost had to move in with no running water.

They finish the article by saying thanks for your interest in Painesville!! (Their exclamation points.) They go on to say they hope your home buying experience is a pleasant one.!! (Again, their enthusiastic exclamations.)

And next to the article is the photo of the grinning council people.

Now, if that doesn't make you want to run right out and make sure you live in or own a home/building in Painesville, then NOTHING ever will!!!!! (My exclamation points.)

4:57 Wants you to load up the station wagon and move here?

4:57 to 6:36. Surely you did notice that that was sarcasm, right?

Hey folks, this isn't just a Painesville thing. Go experience Euclid or any number of other cities. This is a method keeping neighborhood properties up and not letting $$$ owed escape. Granted, it's not fun when you are on the receiving end, I sympathize.

Talking about city employees who jerk others around, what ever happened to "Agent Orange" from engineering?

4:57 Don't own a station wagon either.
5:02 I have never known a city that collect or stops services for a private company like we do for Waste Management. That along with the highest refuse rates in the county is the reason this responsibility should return to council and not left in the hands of just the city manager and service director.

What 4:57 has pointed out is shocking. No wonder Painesville is such a dumb place to live, and it certainly shows why someone who doesn't already live here wouldn't want to come.

Even the fact that the Waste Management service is mandatory, and they even count your bags if you are on bag service to make sure you use enough. And if a place is vacant, the new owners have to pay for all the months that nobody was there paying for services. Stupid. Really, just unbelievable.
