PAINESVILLE COUNCIL MEETING 01/05/15

Well it went off as planned. but first let's talk about the Executive Session. The reason given in the city's agenda  it was for JEDD appointment. I guess we don't have to be a genius to  figure who that appointment that was about, do we? Well Painesville's representative on the JEDD should be a presently employed city administrator, or one of our elected representatives.  Not someone who retired, please just retire. I don't know if a person was put into that position, But everyone in the meeting should be reminded of the present Waste Management contract O.K.

Well we re-borrowed that 2.8 million dollar note (loan)

It was decided that our sanitary sewer rates will go up 3% yearly for the next 10 years and every year council will decide if they need or don't need a raise the following year.. Average increase for all Painesville residents will be $.53 a month most will have a sewer charge of $18.13 Councilmen DeLeone, Fodor, Flock and Hach voted for the increase.  Fitzgerald, Jenkins and DiNallo voted No. Fine... But no reason was given by any of the three for their No vote? I don't think they were against an increase rather they seemed to like the 5% 5% 5% 5% and 4%  increase with no increases in the last five years. Or another formula was 0%, 8%,7%, 7%. 6.5%. with no increases in the last four years. I quit questioning the logic for some votes taken on council.

I figure if you give them the money out front by the seventh year they will need more money. This voted on formula keeps councils finger on the purse strings.

Mr. Fodor brought up strategic planning for council? I already thought we had a plan?

I see a big chunk of curbing on steetscape missing. All in front of jobs and human services maybe snow plow issues?

If it's yellow, let it mellow. Our sewer rate was high as it was. Can't afford to garden because of this. Can't afford to waste the water with the top dollar sewer rate.

Does it take a while for concrete to cure really hard? Or this just another example of shoddy construction?

I can hardly wait to see how many of the new bricks are missing by spring time.
What a waste of money to sooth someone's ego.

"should be a presently employed city administrator, or one of our elected representatives"

Should be or is required to be?
I was NEVER a fan of the JEDD as I believe it is just a way for communities to circumvent the law. However, politicians find ways around laws all the time.
That said, I assume you mean our former CM?
I agree with you, why can't she just go away and enjoy retirement? In all her time in the City, things went nowhere positive.
As always, follow the money trail.

5:38 She has no business on the JEDD period. Look ask someone on council at the time when they first found out about the JEDD then ask yourself why? Secret?
4:55/ 5:22 Yes we will find out how streetscape fares a northern Ohio winter, Not cured? or to many nooks and cranies to plow?

If you get a chance watch a city resident at Mondays council meeting who is a city engineer explain how and why we are presently doing or street's wrong. He wasn't allowed to finish so much for being heard out, bet if he was praising them he could have talked alnight.

Well after a former administration neglected infrastructure in Painesville for a number of years I guess an increase was in order? That's one department you don't need a back-up in right?

I don't know if any other council people went up to city hall to look for and get an explanation from the CM and FD Flock did? Maybe you should ask the others?

Another tidbit, the Council Finance committee has know about this for well over a year. But it seemed to some on council it should not be brought up to residents. Reason? Maybe three levies on the ballot in 2013? Leaving most on council as well as residents in the dark.

Infrastructure wasn't only neglected by the last CM. What is the new one doing? What did past councils do? I listened to Sherrod Brown on WMJI complaining about Ohio's infrastructure, how bad everything is and how long its been neglected too. It's everywhere and unfair to point a finger at just one person. Did you recommend an increase at any council meetings that would support the problem? If not then you would be part of the problem too.

5:19 Maybe, but when you have a resident tell council they have rust in there water along with the than CM claiming 10 years earlier that line needed replaced. The same CM grants an organization $22,000 a year for God know what, it appeared to me the priority's are out of place. This along with so many poor recommendations you have to wonder.
