"COUNCIL MEETING 10/06/14

What happened ? No special Resolution this week. Painesville's best whatever.....

Nothing else second reading to change zoning on Barnes Ave. You know the street that only exists in some ones mind. Three homes on a triangle parcel that isn't big enough for one R-1. house.

Cleaning up Fire Department contract with some union obligations.

Two more homes to be demolished plus two other ones. In 1964 Painesville started 'Urban Renewal' 2014 now we are in the 'Urban Removal' phase.... Houses, Hotel, the Lawyers Building next to Burger King. I guess the county commissioners have finally hinted of a 'new' jail to be built.

Wonder if they ever will fix the council meeting's sound system? No reason for anybody to know what their discussing, is there?

Rumor has it the new/old fire truck is back!

Gee, you forgot the proposal to sell the cemeteries!
I can hardly wait to see how someone spins that idea.

6:51 Didn't forget thought it might be redundant. Thinking about it you have to wonder how many Painesville resident's even have a clue this is on the agenda? First you have to get on the website to see the agenda, if not watch a council meeting with no sound and get the News0-Herald that pretty much only reports crime in Painesville. So s@#t happens and nobody knows anything.
I can't wait for the spin. We can't afford to take care of them, but 32 guys can sit around in a building wishing and hoping there needed. When they are they can't do anything. Yeah watch the spin.

Fire department contracts to clean up? Is it that time? Who got raises, when will they begin and what else is being cleaned up? Do tell?

I had been challenged to do the 5 day 5 positive thinking challenge. I would like to propose this to mr. Terminator. Judging by all the negativity I keep reading and seeing from him, I don't think he would be able to come up with 5 positive things on the first day let alone 5 things for each day of the week. If I were to look up pessimist in the dictionary his photo would be there for the definition.

Council meeting..... Almost fell of my bench hearing Councilman Deleone thank Councilman Flock for his information on where we stand with AMP. Finally, how long has it taken council to get up to speed on AMP.

The explanation from councilwoman Jenkins on Halloween dates was not acceptable. Yes, you need to submitt dates and information to the Painesville Pride 3 weeks ahead of time and the date given was Oct. 30. Then for some unexplained reason the date was changed to Nov. 1. A paper that goes to each and every house in Painesville with a date stamped in ink on the front page has a bit more staying power then going to the city website. Even for Trick or Treat its hard to get the right information. So you want to talk about electricity?

On the cemeteries..... I love talking to my 95 year old neighbor Lois. Her observation, how did we go from two guys (her neighbors, long gone) with push mowers who were able to care for the whole place and plant flowers to over a million dollars in my life time. This is nonsense.
I would love to see the numbers.....maybe the Painesville Pride?

12:18 no increase but a wage reopener in 2015.
12:25Negativity? I'm not an negative person. Look if informing you of faulty electric contracts, garbage contracts or just wondering what's going on. Please read the city's publications first time facts are viewed as negative. I've seen enough around here to be a little pessimistic. Example We had a person run for council without meeting with the people or sharing his agenda. Now almost a year later how many council meetings has he missed. He's on another tour. Fine but remember he wanted the job . If he knew his job would take him away from the city so much, what was he thinking? 50% of Tom is better than 100% of anybody else. I saw this coming and I mentioned it to you.
4:31 Sandy a $1,000,000 dollars a year to cut grass for 7 months ,Plow snow in the winter. $550,000 generated in revenue. (selling plots opening graves. Something really wrong with this picture. Can't wait to see the outcome of this one.
Don't pat Mike to hard on the back. He was only referring to Andy getting the literature to council members before the meeting. The man likes to pontificate. Thank this thank that.... Just please do your job.
But what do I know I'm just getting older and forgetful.
Don't get your hopes up to high on council taking any action . There I go again the pessimist in me.
10:30 I addressed this in a past post. But here's what I'll do for you I'll meet you next Monday at the BOE meeting and ask a follow-up question after you address the board with your concern.
Working on what happened at last night council meeting.

Now that we heard some numbers to go with the idea of selling the cemeteries, I have a question or two.

We were told that approx $900K has been used, out of the General Fund, to keep the cemeteries open.
If this is true, what private business would EVER buy them? Companies are usually in the business of making money, not losing it.

The answer is that the price of plots and opening of plots would have to go up. There is no other way.

Furthermore, we were told that currently there are no "sold by a city privately owned" cemeteries in Ohio and, if I heard correctly, there are only a couple of them in the entire country.

Doesn't sound like the idea is well received anywhere.

You know, we should have a number of people that can cut the grass and maintain the cemeteries. Currently they can be found at the power plant looking for things to do.

You've been challenged to say something positive and what? No response? You've got nothing. Well I'll go. Since the large truck was a sore subject since it's been missing, it's back. This was reported at council meeting an you made NO mention here. After all your negative remarks you can't tell your readers it's back in service?
Your turn now, again 5 positive things about Painesville.

Sandy Miller, what are you getting at? If you go to the downtown Painesville facebook page you will see that on September 18th Halloween was changed from Friday night to Thursday 10-30-14, almost a month ago. Painesville Pride didn't make a mistake. The mistake was changing the day and not leaving it on the 31st like it's been for years, football games included. Who was blaming the paper for the mistake? Blame the person who changed it then changed it again.

Is it possible to work with the jail and have work release cut cemetaties? If they can pick up trash on the side of the road wouldnt a cemetery be fine?

I think what bothers me about the citys attempt to sell the cemetery is they have failed to think outside the box. I wish we employed a creative thinker.

If the recreation department had a garden club there could be some help from residents. City leaders need to start looking within .........

Who challenged me? O.K. I also mentioned the truck was back, that's a good thing? Also Monday night Councilman Tom Fitzgerald didn't do anything to cost the resident's of Painesville money. Maybe he can arrange some more tours. Out of sight out of mind!
Wonder when he figured out his business would conflict with his duties on council?

Have the disabled person cut the grass? No pay him more money!

The return of the truck was NEVER mention in Monday's meeting. I did ask the Chief about it but no one brought it up during the meeting.

This proves my point: you just can't say anything nice. NO, you did not mention the truck, you said "rumor has it the new/old truck is back!" That's not positive and your comment was snippy calling it the new/old truck. You just cant do it can you? You don't have it in you. I hope when I get your age I not a grumpy old man like you, oh wait I am your age just not mean like you.

Sandy Miller, what are you getting at? You didn't answer the question, had nothing to do with the cemetery issue and all to do with someone blaming the paper for a mistake over the Halloween date. Still no comment eh?

How many meetings has Fitzgerald missed? Can council excusing his absence and it's just fine? Does he get paid for meetings he's not at?

11:56 I didn't hear a mention of the truck either.
12:38 What exactly would you call a 1992 model of truck that the city and Concord just purchased less than a year ago that has been in the shop for repairs for the last three months? How should have I addressed this?
Grumpy, yes let's add that to my list, a city councilman telling my attorney I'm getting old, and I'm getting to forget a lot? Problem is I wish I had that problem my problem seems to be I remember to much. Oh, and the councilman called my attorney a liar. Problem was the attorney was my son-in-law. I am not quit sure he would lie to me?
12:41 Why does Sandy Miller have to ANSWER YOU? leave your name I'll have her call you.
10:20 Yes it is. $500.00 per month attending meetings or not. Now the added problem besides not being at meetings that's one less council-at-large people they can't contact with a problem while he's roaming the world. God Bless him, but why ask for the job. According to city charter he get's paid period. Just as if he was at the power plant.

"I my self live in Mentor and can care less"

This shows me the benefit of living in Mentor. You really mean that you COULDN'T care less.
That would mean that you could not possibly care less than you do.
Think about it.

Still not one mention of the Halloween finger pointing. Don't agree? PC changed the date to Thursday, Facebook followers were angry (100 or so)So it was then changed to Saturday. The paper residents received got blamed for this when it was not even their fault.
Its very simple: Fill in the blanks with something positive.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
