What's to learn? He announced a retirement. Why do you look for a story? Go back to your Mommy's and play with your toys.

Now, if true, that is a sad day for Painesville.
I know I will miss him and his open door policy.

That is at the end of the month not today. Your sources are off a little

You should confirm your story before running things like this. He announced his retirement to his staff, effective sometime in June.

Seems everyones "sources" are a little off?
5:32 thought everyone was into innuendoes?
Now here's one to think about did the local Hispanic population speed up the retirement? That's the claim by my city hall sources. How many Hispanic officers on PPD? Two?
Why did the city wait so long before the press release? More innuendoes?

How bout that stormwater meeting? I used the packet of information to sop up the water, AGAIN in my basement. Cedarbrook flooded again between Southington and Hawkins. No problem, just rest on your laurels while we float away back here.

"What's to learn"..i bet the residents would like to know. Maybe all the people who were interview by the CM which stopped when the chief announced he was leaving. Im sure once the truth gets out to the news media it will make for an interesting story

City might have waited a bit for someone to change their mind? Press releases don't write themselves so that might have taken a few days. Who knows.

Some white, black, brown officers is a good thing. Hey don't forget an Asian. That's a pretty small group, maybe a mixed Asian would be more accurate.

Good luck Chief. Now we break in a new guy. That is always dicey.

4:38 Rest on who's laurels? I have been dreading these spring rains since last spring.
I know the new "VACTOR" as well as the camera truck were on Cedarbrook Monday.
The area between Southington and Hawkins it appears the homes on the north side of Cedarbrook are about 10 feet higher than the ones on the southside? Do both sides flood equally? Same situation at the beginning of Cedarbrook near Chestnut St. but not as bad and the southside is higher.

I should think our city council should be grateful they are not in Strongville! Watched their packed auditorium roast the public works guy! No sewer system in the area can handle 4.4" of water in a short amount of time yet they yelled it was the city's job to protect their property. Watching this one closely! Take note Painesville.

So we paid Sandy Hook how much to tell us what to fix? Oh yeah, rain barrels......

The innuendo I heard from someone associated with the PPD is that City Manager asked the Chief to leave because he [the Chief] did not embrace the diversity of our city. I told my source that I was surprised to hear that, most cops I know are tolerant of diversity, not sure I ever met a cop that wanted to embrace anyone. He replied that most cops feel the same as the Chief but the poor Chief voiced his opinions to the wrong people. Therefore, City Manager told the Chief retire or be fired. I'm not sure Painesville will be any safer but I'm sure we will appear to be more politically correct in the future. The truth is stranger than fiction.

The city resting on their laurels. Not you, you know everything is NOT about you. I too have been dreading the rains and another flooded basement, again.

10:51 Seems the city "conductor" needs a new engineer? Hardly a surprise, city was advertising in the paper for one.
8:06 Sorry, you could have said they {city} were resting on there laurels.
1:03 Heard about the same story.

Can't wait for Mondays council meeting. I guess we will learn what a "recreational" facilities as conditional use in an industrial area. Try closing that door once it's been opened?

The chief probably wanted to treat the illegals the same way they treat the legal citizens and was told to lay off. This is such a piece of junk city, I can hardly believe it. And this new city manager is no better than the old one, as I have said before. Same crap, different day.

Nooooo, wrong again. More misinformation. The job in the paper was not the same job for the most recent person that got the boot. 2 people from the same department, 2 different jobs.

3:36 look at the city employment website. For a city that can't find two nickels to rub together now two engineers?
Remember the rusty water on Elm St.? No money. now General Fund money to the tune of over $300,000 for streetscape, $200,000+ general fund money to teardown old hotel... And you claim I'm the one with misinformation? Od how they find cash in this town?
8:01 I agree the Chief is an equal oportunity arrester.

I think the police in this town are rude, mean and unprofessional, just like they have been for the twenty-plus years I have lived here. The only decent people over there are the dispatchers, who are always nice, helpful and respectful. Getting a new police chief last time didn't help with the problem, so maybe it will this time. I think you have to be an illegal in this town to get them to talk to and treat you decently, and Lord help you if you have a complaint against the Mexicans, because the police department is for the Mexicans no matter what. I say take out this police chief right along with the new city manager. Neither one helped, or are helping, any of the problems in this city.

Most cops are not tolerant of diversity, and my experience of the city's police officers, even more so. But go ahead and scapegoat the Hispanics, it carries on the community tradition of finding someone to blame. It used to be Italians, now it is Hispanics.

8:01. If you live in the city I would suggest you move out and if you don't live in the city go complain about where you live. The city manager is doing a great job. He has cleared out a few do nothing's, that we're collecting pay and not providing a work product. I think that's great he has a set,, as far as how the citizens in Painesville they all get the same treatment,. If I did not know better you sound like a certain school employee who I am aware of . Have a good day

When will this city learn? We must clean up the drugs and the illegals so we can move forward. I know so many people who are so afraid to even drive through "the hood" as they call it, they will go miles around it just so they are safe.
This town needs a big push broom to clean it up. Instead of the small problems, go with the first two large ones and maybe the rest will begin to take care of itself.

I've had nothing but good experiences with the Painesville PD. I've had to call them more than once about loud music from Mexicans (and others, to be fair) in my neighborhood and they have never failed to respond. I call, they come, the music gets turned down. Mexicans or not. I can think of a few things to complain about in Painesville but the PD isn't one of them.

So 3:29, why don't you tell us? According to you, it is something we should know, so tell us, please. I would love to hear the truth.

5:46, what (where) is considered "the hood" in this city, please.

To 2:45, I'm not a school employee, and I stand by my statement that the new city manager is no better than Rita McMahon, the old one.

Scapegoat the Hispanics? Really? Legal or Illegal? I don't have a problem with any legal resident. I DO have a problem with those that are breaking the law and ALSO with those who are turning a blind eye and allowing them to break our countries laws. As far as the councilman in W3 he stated he had to follow the letter of the law when it came to Ms Dinallos legislation (or whatever it was calles to slip the illegal Mexs in). If I remember the vote was 6 to 1, therefore not only did DeLeone make a stand 5 others did too. Now, lets get that broom and go to town. I'd like to see a motion to make English the official language of Painesville, then Ohio, then of America. This would save Painesville and the schools a lot of money. Lets do it.

11:36, this is 10:44. Sorry. My experience with the police is that they are rude, disrespectful and abusive, and they have been the entire 20+ years I have lived here.

I have heard Painesville refered to as the hood numerous times. Some residents and some children of the town. I've heard other Cleveland schools refer to Painesville as "the hood". One time when my kids where in school for a sports event someone from a Cleveland school said our schools were worse than Brush. I even heard it on Lanigan and Malone one time a while back. News from Painesville was and one of the announcers called it "the hood".

Term 11:18. No, that is absolutely not the case. I am an older, law-abiding, respectful, mature person who certainly deserves to be treated the same. I stand by my statement about the Painesville police. And I will never be a proactive citizen again, either, that is for sure. They can take their attitude and shove it.

To All: The city manager did not ask the Chief to leave, Troy gave his two week notice and the City Manager asked him to stay till the end of June , which is what is happening. All these other rumors are just that rumors and nothing more.

Mr. 10:44. I was with the Painesville Police full time from 1972 until 1997 ,when I retired from full time then went to part time from 1997 to 2012, when I left to pursue other thing like R&R. You must have never dealt with me in my 40 years of service. I treated everyone the way I would expect my wife and daughters to be treated. This was the way I would deal with everyone until they said or did something to make me change my way go doing business .. During that same time I can say those whom trained me taught every new person the same way I trained was trained. I find it hard to believe that any officer would last long with people filing complaints against the. Thank you for listening. Retired Officer Donald M. Howlett. As you can see I sign my name so you know whom your dealing with.
