"NEW DAY" alicia keys

Well from some of the comments I believe some of you must believe I was contemplating suicide last night? Hardly.

First my congratulations go out to the winners. Mrs. DiNallo, Mr Fodor and Mr. Fitzgerald I wish them all successful term's in office. To the other candidates Ms Becks Mr. Murphy, and Ms. Aston thank -you for running. I believe Mr. Murphy and Ms. Becks should hang up their running shoes. Ms. Aston this was just your first step.

The levies? Close, but as one voter exclaimed to me. Your right, but I can't keep driving on theses roads something has to be done. I told him to look me up in four years. Why the fire levy passed and the police levy didn't? Why the animosity for the police? I don't get it?

The Charter issues all passed.

I will take all the positive out of this. First two years ago if someone had told me that we would have a new city manager as well as a new council-president entering 2014 I would have called that good news. So things are looking up in my eyes. Look forward but remember the past.

If anybody who reads this believes that if other candidates had won I would have gone "easy" on them your wrong.

Thanks to the 2,100 of 9,000 registered voters of Painesville that came out and voted yesterday.

There will be many old as well as new issues facing city government in the coming year and the News-Herald, The Gazette, Painesville Pride, Painesville Newsletter as well as What's Happening Painesville will be here to keep you informed.

The real winners in last night's election were the students of our schools.  Go Mrs. Donley.

Something interesting for Painesville residents;

Tonight on channel 3 WKYC on the 1100pm news, there is a story on hazardous train derailments. Painesville Fire Chief Mark  Miachak tells an interesting story what first responders faced in the case of the Heisley Park derailment back in 2007.

The way Becks talked to people not like her during her campaign I would hate to hear her concession speech. Rene, please run again.

2100/9000 voters?
That's really SAD. We may pay more in taxes but less in car repairs now. The roads are a mess.

I voted against the road levy, but since it passed, I can only hope that the city spends the money wisely. With its track record, however, I am skeptical, although having Hada and McMahon out of office offers a ray of light. I'd be more positive about this levy if the first roads to be repaired were the major ones, i.e., Erie, Jackson, Liberty. If, however, only side streets are repaired, I will consider it a waste, as well as wonder how those streets got chosen (favors to certain council members?).

2:50 you now have a reason to attend council meeting. Let them know what you think. Make sure all the money isn't funneled to one or two Wards.
That moneys burning a whole in someones pocket. The levies are retroactive to January 2013 and will be on your February tax bill.

Over 1,100 page views of the blog. the last two days. Why?

I would if I thought it'd accomplish something positive, but I remain skeptical. I feel this way because I'm convinced that a majority of council thinks that they are invulnerable come election time, due to too many voters in this town basing their votes solely upon name recognition. If this seems implausible, how else to explain the election of Tom Fitzgerald to council? He offered no compelling reasons to vote for him, yet did he really have to, given that many more people in this town know his name than they do John Murphy's? Most people don't take the time to do any homework about how to vote, so they resort to other means to choose someone, whether it be party affiliation, gender, race, or, in this case, name recognition. Joe Hada was Exhibit A of this voting behavior for years, and look where that got us. He knew that he would win, so he could do whatever and vote however he pretty much wanted, no matter if a few people publicly opposed him at council meetings. When a politician fears no repercussions at the ballot box, it's only natural that he/she is more tempted to follow the will of self than the will of the people.

2:50 --- Roads that need to be repaired before Jackson and Liberty: E. Erie, W. Walnut, W. Washington, W. High, S. Saint Clair, Courtland, Cedarbrook

Sorry, some of those are side streets, but residents should be expected to have a reasonably smooth road and the city has not provided that to them as long as I've been back.

Side note: there's a big sinkhole developing on S. State between Pearl and Walnut. Huge metal plate covering it right now. Wonder what the deal is? Pipe collapsing?

At last night's budget hearing there was a discussion of the road projects. The goal is to spread the repairs in 2014 out to each ward, and City Manager Carson has asked council to select/suggest roads in their wards that they feel are a high priority. That being said, call your councilperson! Let them know what YOUR priority is, and why....

5:17,

Sorry, but the roads most used in the city should be fixed first. Except for the people living in those neighborhoods, W. High, Courtland and Cedarbrook don't fall under this category. If I and others have to pay our share of property taxes to help fix roads in Painesville, most of us should receive the initial benefits, not just those in specific neighborhoods. I would feel this way even if the street I live on was among the first to be repaired. Very few people use my street, so why should it go to the head of the list when repairing roads that most of us use would provide a much greater benefit?

What's the point in having Painesville's road ranking system which ranks each road's deterioration levels...if we're not going to use it? Courtland north of Prospect has to be one of the worst, yet you propose Liberty (which isn't even bad - I live on the south side) get paved first? Baloney.

8:38 these road debates are going to be interesting?
Courtland north of Prospect? Can we get a little more bang for the buck?

I have always known you to be a liar, and here you go again. And this time you went as far as to quote your friend, John Murphy. In "Back in the U.S.S.R.," you say "Checked with John. Under no circumstances would he ask Flock to step aside. My goal was to serve on the same council as Andy not to replace him was his comment." Well, I just talked to Murphy, and you never asked him that question, and he never said those words to you. And you even QUOTED him. Liar. You are a liar. No wonder you get along so well with Flock, who lies whenever HE feels like it, also, and no wonder you two make such a good creepy, creepy pair. Yuck.

6:56 Susan you said no more remember? Now you call me a creepy liar. Maybe anyone who believes this drivel should just ask John Murphy. Susan what you expect in a councilman is just not in their realm of business. I told John one benefit of losing Tuesday is not having to deal with you!
Go to a council meeting and share your problem or at least get that great guy to pay something. I'm starting to believe that smell you complain constantly about is coming from inside you. Please find a new venue. This is not the purpose of this blog.

Why can't this be about making life better in Painesville instead of making personal attacks? If someone doesn't like the blog, PLEASE don't read it and for God's sake, NEVER comment on it.
This blog isn't about who is right or who is wrong, it is about pointing out things that can be better.
Also, you have the "right' to disagree with Term but please be civil about it. I know him to be fair in what he allows on HIS blog but, IMO, you crossed the line long ago.
Again, if you don't like what you read, don't read it.
Simple.

Term 12:33,

The only 'bang' I hear is another blown tire from driving on that short stretch of road. Painesville needs to obviously take care of the main thoroughfares, but at the same time let's not keep forgetting the little roads that are way worse.

Drive down that short stretch and tell me it isn't plain embarrassing.

Wonder if we'll ever get some pavement on Oak Street.

6:56 may I ask what you do to make this community so fantastic beside complain and name calling?

I was taught if one door was closed find another one that will open. Surely there are more doors than just Councilman Flock's.

The time it took you to write all this stuff, you could have picked up the phone and called somebody else or written a letter. Not sure what you were going for here?

TERM 8:38, I live on a short side street that is very badly in need of repair. You want more bang for your buck? Well should I get any bang for my buck? Just because not many live on my street I still pay my taxes and should be able to drive down my street without car or tire damage. So I shouldn't have voted for the levy? Which I did. Because I won't get any bang.

11:07 Yes you should, where were you and your questions before the levy was voted on?
Look the sad fact is although this adds to your tax bill in the end it only generates $650,000 a year. How thin can this money be spread? I look at it as how the city plows the snow from the streets main streets first and side steets last. I could be wrong but I believe the plan has already been set. Hope you get your bang.

I don't even get plowed! Forget the bang!

I would like to thank the residents that voted for me. Time will tell, if if the other residents made the correct choice. That being said. I think the city manager is working in the right direction helping the residents with flooding concerns with-in the city. I also think council should match the dollars the road levy will produce, to show the residents they are serious in making our city a better city. PLEASE attend meetings to be better informed with the city,s operations. THANK YOU.
