"THE WAY YOU DO THE THINGS YOU DO" temptations

Yes coming this May many will be tempted  to vote for Painesville City Schools:
5-year, 6.06-mill renewal levy for operating expenses.
If you remember last year we passed a new operating levy for close to the same amounts. The main reason given was inflation as well as the believed state funding cuts.

Governor Kasich's newly proposed formula where no district is cut. I will outline what Painesville will receive from the state and you decide what to do.

FY 2013 PCLS received                          $21,033,756.00
Estimated student count                              3,185
3-year Avg.Valuation Per Pupil               $63,670.00
Core Opportunity Aid                              $11,854,477.00
Targeted Resources                                 $5,177,257.00
Students with Disabilities                        $741,350.00
English Language Learners                      $2,550,969.00
Economically Disadvantaged Students      $2,647,481.00
Gifted and Talented                                 $159,052.00
Early Childhood Access                          $613,217.00

TotalFY2015 funding $23,743,803.00
                                   $21,033,756.00
 Added Funding          $  2,710,048.00 +

This works out to a 12.88% increase in funding from
the State of Ohio.

All these figures can be reviewed at

http://jobsbudget.ohiogov/documents/Preliminary-District.pdf

One thing in this budget that seems out of place is the small amount of funding gifted and talented receive? Seems like more money should be spent to promoted our brightest students.

Now there will be a school board meeting this Monday February 11, 2012 I am sure we will receive an explanation for the cuts that didn't come as well as the reason for even more funding.

Look I'm not telling you how to vote but I believe this administration has over exaggerated the loss of funding from the state.

We should be willing to listen but our school system will receive over $2,000,000 from the state. per year for the next two years.

Riverside Schools will receive $1,015,055.00 a 17.02% increase
Mentor no increase.
Willoughby-Eastlake with 11,000 students   $847,901.00 7.32% increase

My wife, daughter and I will vote for the renewal, the need is real. Our Republican Govenor has decided that Painesville is in greater need for state help than Mentor does anyone disagree with that?

When will this community understand the schools need so much more than money.

Ah, but if you have enough money and people, anyone can do the job!
That takes no special skill.

5:18 pm, everyone needs something. I need things. I have to tighten my belt and revise my budget. Painesville City schools can't keep asking me to pull money from where I don't have it. And I can't keep allowing this. Good grief people. Wake up. Money isn't the real problem with the schools. It is greed.

If money was the answer .. Cleveland schools would be rated the best in the state then ..

More money is spent per pupil in Cleveland schools by a wide margin than anyone else ... why are they not the best then ?

We will see how the administration answer this?
9:38 8:11 5:17 Cleveland is a good example where throwing money at a problem just doesn't work.

Galion schools are headed for fiscal emergency ... the citizens have been demanding county consolidation into one district. W have 6 districts for 7,000 students. School board ignores the voters, voters refuse to pass levies by a 3 - 1 margin in return ... we want the state to seize the system and force it.

3:50 qnd each district with a superintendent, duplacations X 6.
Good Luck.

I for one can't wait to hear the reason behind asking for this renewal after the passage last year of a new operating levy?
2million PLUS from the state and still not enough.
I am sure they will explain why they need this money. My family needs it more. I usually just read this site but with people who think like a couple posts above I fear to many in Painesville will vote this in.
If this blog. didn't tell us the state has increased money sent to the district do you think anyone else would have?
If the board was a standup group they would drop the levy.
Never have we needed those NO signs more than now!

TO Hanlon shot down again...what is Chardon thinking? The 2 from PCLS? I sure hope they come to their senses and chose Lombardo (?) I think thats his name. Leave the other 2 away from Chardon unless you want to see the system down the toilet. What are they thinking?

Can't make it to the board meeting tonight. However, can someone please relay the level of embarrassment I feel when communicating with people outside of our community? We are constantly in the news paper with negative issues....horrendous test scores, administrators (principals) leaving the district, unethical teacher student relations, board member resigns after a month on the job, food service scandal (stealing) and allowed to resign, forfeit of basketball games....how about the harrasment complaint documented against the superintendent?

All of this and NO ONE is ever held accountable.

Term, please post as these are all facts and public knowledge.

11:41 Must say this harrasment complaint must be new? I have no knowledge about.
We got to find this NO ONE person?

The solution must be throw more money at the schools?

Called city and county prosecuting offices again. Still no case?
New clue.. Told to call the City Prosector see if he knows anything. Starting to feel like Columbo.

I found this to be a strange posting at Harvey:
WHY Spanish?
Are health and technology a real problem for students? Do they really need extra tutoring in these?
SPANISH? Aren't most students fluent in it already there? Maybe it was a misprint. SHoulda been English - Language Arts - Social Studies and Math. What a disservice to all the Legal English speaking students and taxpayers.

Ridiculous, I'm taking a wild guess here but I believe this is for a staff position?
Then need for Spanish may be so it would be easier to communicate with students?
If they use Spanish as a first language in this in the long run it might hurt more than help the students.
Honestly never heard of Twilight Academy?

I believe to be a citizen in the United States you must becom fluent in English and English is the offical language of America.
Could something as simple as this hold up immigration reform?

These are the figures from the jobs budget site. WHere did you get your numbers from and why were they different?
I also would like to know where is this money coming from? How was it determined what districts receive it?
Solon, WilloughbyEastlake & Perry are on the receiving end yet Ledgemont, Ashtabula and Madison nothing? Those districts that are hurting got nothing while the wealthy got something?

I showed the site I got my answers from, got a print copy.
Seems like my answers show more spending this year and getting more money this year. I recorded a 12% increase you report a 14=% increase. I will look into it. Maybe a revision?
Still were are to receive 2.7 million dollars more. That figure comes up alot in Painesville. Also the legislature must also approve this spending. Cleveland probably the poorest is already out of wack with the rest of the state. No answer as to why Madison ect. Please don't think BTW believes
painsville is a wealthy district?

IS English the official language of America? Has that ever been declared? Just asking, because I'm not sure. And if it is, it means nothing. More and more signs in Spanish. Job postings all across America where Americans must know Spanish to get the job. Spanish on every recorded phone message, including our Social Security offices...and of course, I could go on. For one thing, I watched a Spanish woman try to get an infant a Social Security card at the Social Security building in Painesville. She gave a birth certificate with only the name of the child on it. Instead of calling the police, they pulled a Spanish speaking woman up from the back to help her understand that it wasn't going to work. Since she was speaking in Spanish, she probably told her exactly where to go and what to do to do it right next time.

I sincerely doubt that we are going to give away our country with both hands, and manage to keep our English language. Soon it will be English-speaking Americans who are on the outside not knowing what is being said in our country. Hell, Rubio even gave his rebuttal to the President's speech recently in Spanish also. So think again. That's what happens when you let another country -- Mexico -- empty out into the United States and take it over. You get a Mexican country. We aren't having to "press 1 for English" for nothing. We're losing our language, and it doesn't matter how many rules are in place, it's already half way there.

At February 22, 2013 at 6:37 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

I don't believe our country has a offical language. I believe it should. Also if you want to become a citizen of this country I would think you would want the skills to communicate with everyone.
Republicans are trying now to cater to the large Hispanic population. With that said I don't see an Immigration Bill passing in along time.
I also don't see many people wanting to be reasonable. First off to the illegals, quit with the demands it hurts you more than helps. The civil rights advocates demanded it in the 60's? Yes but remember African-Americans were brought here against their will. It's a big difference than coming here willfully.

At February 22, 2013 at 7:05 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

You are correct about the African-Americans. They were American citizens who deserved equal rights in what was now their own country. As for the illegals, this is not their country -- big difference. Yet they demand and get rights that they have no right to. I guess because they both are people of color, they think it's the same difference. One has nothing to do with the other. The blacks were American citizens, the illegals don't even belong here. Everyone seems to forget that they have countries of their own that they should be in. They can fight for rights in their own countries all they want, and that is what they should be doing.

I just read that government spending is down in all areas except for entitlements. Well, we have probably 30 million illegals here getting all the free health care they want, along with food stamps, etc., etc. So, gee, I wonder why entitlement spending is up so high? It infuriates me that we are so used to these blood suckers that we don't even bring that up in discussions about where in the heck our money goes. These people need to take all that misplaced nerve back to their own countries and fight for rights there. And just wait until they are legalized, if they are. We ain't seen nothin' yet.

And we haven't even changed the anchor baby law yet, so I doubt there is much hope in saving our country now. Obama is saying he is going to try to put more non-whites in high offices, and the Republicans are saying the same thing. I find that so funny. They are giving away our country to the Hispanics so their parties can get the votes, but within an election or two, if these people are legalized, there won't be hardly any non-Hispanics in any office in the United States of America. So they are going to legalize them to keep their jobs, and are too stupid to see that there will be no jobs for anyone but Hispanics once that happens. It would be laughable if it wasn't so frightening.

I know I have asked this before, but who are our contacts in this state and DC that can and will help defeat this immigration reform?
I'm talking names of politicians. I have written some of those in favor of the reform outside of Ohio and of course never heard from them. They don't give 2 hoots what I think because I do not represent a vote for them. I am asking for political names that we could get involved with and turn my little town and this country back around. Please don't propose the local police as their hands are tied by the Feds too.

Best guess call and/or join the Tea Party?

At February 22, 2013 at 6:02 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

One of the biggest problems with the Republicans when they are (or used to)fight legalization for the illegals (amnesty), is that they make it about Obama and the Democrats. Yes, it is the Democrats fault, but there are many Democrats that are against amnesty and want the illegals out. They (the Republicans, Tea Party, Grassroots Rally Team, etc.) would probably start to accomplish something if they kept it about the issue, and not a diatribe on Democrats. ALL Americans need to come together and get their behinds out onto the streets and start yelling for the anchor baby law to be fixed, and for the illegals to get out. All the government needs is the e-verify work system in place to get rid of illegal workers; then they would deport themselves...they found their way in, and they can find their own way out. Also a better temporary worker program for the fields only, that does not end up with citizenship. Those three things would fix the problem, and we need to keep the politicians from pulling the wool over our eyes. But unless Americans stand up now and fight together, this country is doomed.

10:02, I don't have the answers you are looking for except what I said above (but maybe someone else does), but there is a politician that is working with the local group Grassroots Rally Team, last I knew, that had proposed legislation etc., I believe. Everyone needs to be fighting with you and with that politician and with the anti-illegal groups. (Sorry, I don't remember his name right now, but they have a website you can check out.)

If every American who was against the illegals stood up and fought, we could have the anchor baby mess fixed and the illegals out. If we don't do that, they are going to give away our country for votes.

The one good thing that is coming out of this mess right now is that they are fixing the broken temporary-worker program, but they are proposing a pathway to legalization with those workers. Stupid and unnecessary, and that provision needs to be stopped. But one of the things that has thwarted the efforts of the groups against amnesty is that have been fighting a temporary-worker program all these years, which is dumb. We need that. We have always needed that. And we need a program that works, so the people who come here come on a temporary permit and are here legally, are controlled by the government, and are made to go home when their year or two is up. Of course, no children born while they are here should be legal, unless one of the parents of the child is a United States citizen. Common sense. But once a temporary-worker program that actually works is in place, we are free to get the rest out. And we need to start right now.

I just saw on the news how Mexican kids are fighting (I forget which state it was in) to get Mexican history in their history books. They are angry and indignant. Someone needs to tell them they're not in Mexico any more, and if they want to live in a Mexican country that teaches Mexican history in school, then they shouldn't be in the United States of America, which is not SUPPOSED to be Mexico.

Take a walk thru the school system here. Not so much the elementary schools, you can see the damage being done there. All about entitlement and not assimilation as it should be. I get it, you want to keep your native language - keep it - at home as it does not have a place in school. You are in school to learn as all do, nothing special. And DO NOT pull that "No comprendo" nonsence when I speak to you along your route home. If you have made it to high school you can understand that I'm telling you stop. I'm sure the word NO is universal in English and Spanish. UGH
