"AN' ANOTHER THING" dave matthews band

At last nights council meeting I watched Lori DiNallo become a councilperson. First off she took a concern that John Murphy had proposed and investigated the matter even checking what other communities policies were.
She proposed a 7 day grace period added to utilities bill payments. Electricity, Water, Sewer, Storm Sewer and the $8.00 surcharge for water line updates.
Someone in the visitor's time mentioned their bill is due the 15th yet they haven't received it yet. Mrs. DiNallo is looking out for seniors as well as others who's income check does always work with Painesville's billing system. It was put on first reading and council would like input from residents.

Also Mrs. DiNallo I know is reading her packet. She questioned the legislation that was passed by council concerning the Council of Government. This group of communities are  getting together to share assets and all could save money by not duplicating resource purchases.
Yet in the legislation that council was asked to sign there was added legislation that the communities if decided could hire an executive director as well as staff to run the COG . None is presently proposed but if in the future Painesville could get out voted by the other communities and then we will hear "You voted for the resolution, remember?"

She mentioned to the Council-President that she didn't vote for this? If in the future they can come back with a proposal, why give it to them now? She and Mike DeLeone will meet with the COG next week to get an explanation.
I feel if she and others do as investigating "the packet"  our local government  will be better served.

This may seem like a strange post when you consider the number of times I have criticized Mrs. DiNallo. When she's right she's right and it should be commended by the  community. Thanks for doing your job Lori. I believe if you would have been around during the AMP-OHIO negotiations we still may have that 2 million dollars as well as not sending Prairie State $300,000 a month.
Something tells me Mrs. DiNallo is not an automatic "yes" on council?

I would agree with Term on this.

Although I am not in favor of the 7 or 10 day extension for utility bills, if Council does the research and decides that is the best way to go, so be it. As he says, what is the harm?

Regarding the COG, I guess I am amazed that the document wording could/would be changed as much as it apparently was without raising more eyebrows.

At least Ms DiNallo and Mr Deleone (and possibly Mr Fodor)appear to be reading and understanding the documents.

I am a big fan of regionalization.

For example, it makes no sense to have 18 fire and/or police departments in Lake County. Especially as fire departments work together EVERY time there is a fire. BTW, that is a good thing.

But, do the tax-payers really need 18 fire chiefs?

Back to point, buying goods as a large group makes sense and saves tax money. However, we do NOT need another layer of bureaucracy especially if they are selected instead of voted on by the people. What do the tax payers get out of this?

Jim, I think in the past council has signed on to things without reading the fine print. Your right DeLeone, and Fodor also were aware of the changes. Now the behind the scene takes place. Did you here someone say the JEDD is set-up this way? What!!!!

If adding 7-10 days saves five families $12.00 it's worth it.

Whats wrong with paying your bills on time? That is what should be done and it wouldnt be a problem. What is wrong with tacking on a fee if you are late? This city is hurting and perhaps this little fee is helping the budget. Gosh knows the residents dont/wont want to vote for a levy, so just leave the late fees as it is and PAY your bills when they are due. I am so sick of this its not my fault I was late and everyones gimmie attitude. Way too liberal.

liberal thinking?
Maybe you should check the different utility funds and check the money in them.
If you were as concerned as you appear, that two million spent my our city for nothing on AMPGS should be your major concern. Where's your outrage over that. No let's complain about some resident who would appreciate a few extra days to pay their bills without a penalty.
A real class act 6:17.

Maybe now that she lost the election for State Rep, she is finally taking her job seriously, rather than treating it as a stepping stone.

Now you got me thinking Terms blog has been hijacked?
Something nice written about Lori Dinallo a Republican? Can't be Term.

7:5am, It's funny, but I was thinking the exact same thing. This couldn't be TERM speaking well of a Republican. Then I thought that since this was a good move on Lori's part and hard to find fault with it, that TERM could use this opportunity to make people think he isn't so partisan. That he really does vote on issues and people rather than just Democrats. But we know that he wouldn't vote for Lori no matter what. A compliment thrown in now and then, but no vote. She is, after all, a Republican!

It could just depend on who runs against her? supported Tibbits didn't I?

This is not about Lori Dinallo per say ....... This about council people doing their job. If a council person is reading the packet, engaged and making the best decisions for the residents BRAVO! I would absolutely vote for a Republican if they had these traits. If it were a choice over council president Hada (dem. I believe) and an engaged Republican....... I would vote republican.

When residents attend council meetings, write letters and are continually ignored I question their motives. Lori has always responded to emails and for that I say thank you. Councilwoman Jenkins has also responded, as has Councilman Flock and Fodor. We may disagree but at least I know why we disagree.

8:20 Really??
I see a new climate in council slowly growing. People have seen what happens when "follow the leader" is the way things are done.
The council-president as well as the new city manager will find the days of rubber stamping everything is coming to an end.
It will be interesting to see if the Charter committee comes up with term limits, petetion amounts, anything thast might bring the power back to the people.

GET OVER IT. What does giving a grace period and that have in common? The comment involves giving a grace period. Since you are still bent on dwelling in the past, skip the darn grace period and take the late fees to return back into the coffers. It's a small amount but heck, you should realize that every penny should count.

GET OVER IT Where's your answer losing over 2 million never gets to old, sorry. heck it's a big amount you should realize that every million counts.

Giving a grace period is a slippery slope. My experience in business is that in many peoples minds the grace period becomes the new due date so collections take longer. Peopele should pay their bills on time, penalty if late. Their are agencies such as Lifeline and some others for those in need.

6:15 Who decided a 15 day period was the right time frame? Not getting on the Post Office but now we will deal with an extra day wait. You know legally I believe if you can charge a late fee I wonder if you would get a 5% discount if you payed a month in advance?
You guys are a tough crowd. If you look at the post above of Painesville getting extra money one of the criteria seemed to be a city with low income along with low property value. What lets push some of these people a little further in debt so our local government can squeeze a few more bucks out of someone? I've never been called a bleeding heart but watching over the years the waste that goes on in this city this seems like a small concession.
I will get my city utility bill a month or $200.00 in advance a see if I can expect a discount? Wonder if that door swings both ways?
We constantly discuss the high rental properties in this city anybody have a clue what's driving them out of town?
We have driven to many quality people out of town.
