"CUTS LIKE A KNIFE"

Tomorrow, Monday evening, the school board will have its monthly meeting. I understand more cuts will be announced at that time. It will be interesting if there are any admininistration cuts in the offing? I don't mean a secretary at the board office either.
Hows the dress code working out at the High School? Along with the "Pledge of Allegiance"? Is it being recited at Harvey? Heard from two middle schoolers they may even drop it at Heritage Middle.
Artificial Turf at Jack Britt Stadium? I only hope the boosters are paying for that; the school administration can't be involved with that with some of the cuts made or proposed.
A few other issues might even be brought up?
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00p.m. at the Hanlon Presentation Center at Harvey High 200 W.Walnut St.
The most important thing that the citizens can do for the future of Painesville is to bring "Excellence in Education " back to the city. That more then anything will bring people to move into town.
Somehow this administration must move us from "Continuous Improvement" to
"Excellent with Distinction" or move on and let someone else try.

You have to wonder if a new councilwoman, or school system bus driver are among some that were cut?

The press release from the college mentioned it was a JOINT project between the college and the school system? So if they won't pay anything what will they provide?

10 QUESTIONS WITH MICHEAL VICTOR
President Lake Erie College

N-H: Any news on getting Pro-Turf surface at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium for football games?
Victor: Yes, were partnering withthe Painesville School District and the city to get bids out for a new turf field. They have the money ,we have the money.

I'll let posters decide who the old fart brain really is.

Hey Old Fart, you are correct again.

It was mentioned at recent BOE meeting that it is a joint expense and both parties will pay a portion of the cost. I can not remember the exact amount, but I was surprised at how expensive it is to put the turf in.

The Intendent's (I don't consider him 'super') recommendations in these meeting minutes show where it was discussed at the BOE meeting.

If LEC was paying for it, why would PCLS enter into a contract for the turf?

As a victim of the school lay off in Nov. 2009, (I was "bumped" out of my job) I can tell you how this works. Employees are being notified that they are not renewed for next year. Depending on the amount of seniority they have, they can choose to "bump" another employee out of their job position. At the end of it all, the lowest people on the list are the ones who end up being jobless. The only thing I can say is at least the school is being kind enough THIS TIME to notify people NOW - so that they can continue to have a paycheck through the summer and look for work or make other plans for their economic situation. It was quite a shock to be notified in the middle of October that I had no job starting Nov. 1st. (How nice of them to let us go right before the holiday season!) Good luck to all that will be affected - I have not had ANY luck finding work. Everything out there is either part-time or you get no calls for interviews because so many people are applying for the same position. I imagine it is very difficult for the employers to "pick the right person" having to go through 200 applications instead of maybe 20 - 30. The news media keeps on saying that "things are getting better", but are they in Lake County? I think we have a way to go yet! I can only remain hopeful until that time.

Do you think 3:04 is uninformed or trying to steer people from the truth?

At April 12, 2010 at 3:21 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

I think they are just uninformed. The internet makes it to easy to look up information you know you have already read. I really try hard not to post something that can't be backed up. Some people are just offended if you go and make comments about organizations that they like. [school system, city government rally groups ect.]

"I really try hard not to post something that can't be backed up." I just can't stop laughing. Do you remember "I heard a rumor", "I heard a rumor." If you had information to "back it up" it would not be a rumor any more. I am laughing so hard right now. I guess "backing up" has different meaning to different people.

I cannot understand why the residents of the city are not up in arms against this school board and schools.
If a city has thriving schools with academic achievement people would fight to be in this city!
If you have kids it's the first thing you look at when looking for house.
I am so sick of both administrations blowing smoke in my face and telling me it's a refreshing spring rain.
Your housing values would go up as would your rentals. Downtown would not look empty and your tax would be grow.

Hold these over paid administrators accountable!

As far as these most recent cuts are concerned....has any of the top administrators taken a voluntary salary cut? Hanlon could afford it....he gets enough in perks that he wouldn't even feel a salary cut at all. (But then the board would just quietly give it back to him when they update his contract...like they do every year) I wouldn't even THINK about voting for another school levy EVER unless the administration took their fair share of hits too.

Gay Day of Silence a Waste of Tax Dollars, Critics Say

Thousands of public schools are planning to allow students affiliated with a gay and lesbian advocacy group to sponsor an anti-bullying "Day of Silence" on Friday, but family organizations say the demonstration is a disruptive waste of taxpayer dollars and are calling for families to pull their kids out of school.

Who is behind this locally? Term, you need to find out but make sure you tell them they must tell you their name address and who their leader is too. Otherwise, just another conspiracy theory. Who you gonna blame this time?????

Well, here's the deal. Attended the board meeting last night. Listened and learned even made a statement and low and behold something got accomplished. No Hat with tea bags, no dressing up like Rip Van Winkle, didn't have to chase one Hispanic out of a church basement. Yet if people could find time to attend these meetingand express themselves, I bet you would be surprised what you might get done.
I guess if you don't want to send your child to school Friday that's your decision. If no ones going to talk, what will be taught that day? I like gay men they make it easier for guys like me to find women who will but up with us. Deep down inside I must be a lesbian? With all the things in the world to worry about this seems like a waste. In case you forgotten theres some "evildoers" that want to kill all of us.

I don't understand...
You said "I like gay men they make it easier for guys like me to find women who will but up with us".
What does will "but" up with us mean? Do you mean "put" up or "butt up"? Is this a fact or a typo?

I am not sure but I would think the athletic boosters would be paying a portion of the turf funding. They have the bucks to do it.
Cuts at the administration level HA HA HA HA HA HA. Public has been lead to believe cuts made by combining job titles among the remaining administrators. Go back, way back and count the number of administrators there were then as to how many there were from say...2000 to now. Not too long ago there was the superintendent(hanlon), assistant superintendent, (fodor), assistant to the assistant, (beler), and some guy hidden in the basement, (macri). Not to mention the transtortation director which is what beler used to do. I could keep going but I think you get my point.
The real shame is Painesville residents voted to build new schools and were told they would save money in the long run. What was really meant was they would be cutting much of the staff to maintain these beautiful schools.
Too bad to have brand new schools and not enough staff.

Dear Parents,

As Principal at Harvey High School, I am calling on all parents and guardians to ask for your support and assistance in dealing with an important matter that has been occurring lately at Harvey. While not every student is involved in this problem, there are several who are, so I encourage you to speak to your son or daughter to help the teachers and administrators at Harvey handle this problem.
Beginning on April 19, we will begin a daily hall sweep to force students to be in class on time. Each day more than 75 students are late to class. Some students are late to each and every class that they attend. Beginning next week, students will earn a 30 minute detention the first time they are caught in the hall sweep. The second tardy will result in a one hour detention and the third will be a 2 hour detention. Failure to serve detentions or future tardies to class will result in a Saturday school, which will be served from 8:00-12:00. Failure to serve the Saturday school may result in an out of school or in school suspension.

It is not at all my intention to bully or harass students about this matter, but certainly every parent who hears the message knows that being in class on time is the most important aspect of learning that occurs in our schools.

I'm asking for your help in getting students to understand this message and I really ask for your support in backing us up when we enforce the consequences. As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call me at 392-5110 or email me at pc_kmartin@lgca.org

Principal, Thomas W. Harvey High School

To be asked at the next board meeting.
Last week my child was told to get plenty of rest because there would be testing in the Painesville elementary school she attends.
Will someone please explain what kind of testing is it that the White, and African American children get two hours to complete a test, yet the ESL [Hispanic children] get a dictionary and all day to complete the same test?

I checked on this they were given the whole day but all children had acess to a dictionary. Atleast at Elm St.

This is taken from: http://ohio3-8.success-ode-state-oh-us.info/faqs.aspx#e

Schools are responsible for ensuring that all students, including special education students and English language learners, acquire the knowledge and skills expected at each grade level. Therefore, all students take statewide achievement tests. A small number of students with disabilities take an adapted version of the general education test, called the Ohio Alternate Assessment, which is designed specifically for students with cognitive disabilities. Students who are not yet proficient in English are given extra support to help them understand the tests, such as a dictionary, an interpreter or extra time to complete the tests.
