PAINESVILLE'S LATEST "CRISIS"

Political Signs? Front page of Saturdays News-Herald "Denman stands by sign after citation"????? Of all the problems we have in this town the size of a campaign signs warrants a citation. What could possible motivate this action? Mentor's won't cite "politial signs on steroids" This must be a major problem only in Painesville. Hey, Mr. Schaedlich city planner, tell me that 60ft white former school bus in a residential area on Grant St.is not a problem along with all the other commercial vehiles parked around town, but that political signs needs a citation? This town is getting very selective on enforcement of codes. You really have to wonder if this is motivated by someone on council who is pulling for Mrs. Denmam opponent. There I said it.

Term. get real, we cannot have these oversized signs put up, the law is 16 sq/ft, Denman and Lawson both went over board, lawson took hers down, hers were around 40 sq/ft Denmans are 32 sq/ft. the law is the law, the city now needs to take care of the 2 Obama signs 1 on E. Erie St and 1 on E. Walnut they are oversized, It is just like your house on N State St. do you want them to let it go, and not stop them, don't go all crazy and say they should not take care of these signs, and then bitch about other code breakers.
I'm not on council and I'm voting for Denman.

You answered my question, why was that sign picked out? See what I mean about selective.

At October 18, 2008 at 2:11 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

That wasn't the only sign picked out, it hit the front page cause Denman thumbed her nose at Painesville and again, the News Herald Editors heard about it and were probably giggling like little kids because they got to stick it to Painesville on the front page.

Why would anyone vote for someone for a juvenile judge when that person knowingly broke the law, then refused to comply when cited. Yeah, nice example for our kids.

TERM, you are off on this one. Just looking to incite against a Republican.

To Quote Anonymous above.

"TERM, you are off on this one. Just looking to incite against a Republican."

You do know that Denman is a Democrat.

Now, if you place a sign in the right-away, in a place that may cause a safety issue, or on public property and are asked to move/remove or be cited, then you can not be above the law. Is this setting a bad example or just using the city and paper for free publicity or maybe both.

This is as bad as all the STEALING of political signs during this election. Add the scandals in Cleveland and the Acorn mess to the pot and we have one awful looking election coming up. No wonder the approval ratings of our leaders is so low. My approval ratings of some of our voters this year is also at an all time low.

Don't look for any official elections results this time.

Badger,
You are off on this one yourself.

Term. incited against Lawson or her supporters(Republicans) for turning in Denman to the building Dept.

So the second post up was right on the money.

Well if you go 100 yards dowm the road in the township .Her opponent has a 26 ft. box truck parked in a bar parking lot with her name plastered all over it. Neither of these to sign placement will affect my vote but the charater of one will. If you think this is much ado about nothing your right. Abbey shame on you.

The Hell with the signs, who is Russ Schaedlich? City Planner? More pork at the top. Really what do all these people do all day.

Read my post again. I was just pointing out how sad this election is being waged. The stealing of signs and the negative campaigning by both sides is just how low our political process has sunk. I haven't gone around to see all the signs people are complaining about but the citation/newspaper article is just as bad as the complaint about a sign. What has this to do with choosing the best candidate? Wise up people and educate yourselves about the candidates instead of whining about someone's sign. Be an educated voter, not a whiner.

Right on JR - where did this morph come from and what is he being paid to not use his skills because he will always be dictated to by the management. Others in this position just walked away,
As for Signs go to the city sight and pull-up 1135.02 SIGNS. No mention of political signs here and absolutely no notations of any ordinance number or date of the legislation being passed by council.
Now go to 1341.141 which talks about politicl signs (16 square feet) but this ordinance is #29-04 and was passed On October 4, 2004.

So, Mr. City Planner, how can you state in the News-Herald that the City of Painesville changed the ordinance in 1997 their sign requirements? Show me - prove this. Go and print for me and the newspaper the change that you claim occurred in 1997.

Thank you.

Why would anyone running for Juvenile Court Judge park a truck with her signs on it in a bar parking lot? I don't get it.

If the city planner has this much time on his hands maybe he should really be worried about the signs that matter most.

Term, "incited against Lawson or her supporters {Republicans}for turning Denman into the Building Dept."
So who did turn a complaint into the city? Building Dept. was never mentioned anywhere. Buy a Beer at Storm Cellar to anyone who finds out who filed the complaint?

When someone has a code complaint, they call the building Dept. Term why do you not know this ?

If you know of A Code violation, all you have to do is call the Building Dept. and ask for code enforcement and give them your complaint, they check out the complaints.

I usually think term is full of crap, but this does seem very selective. There is a white bus on Grant St. why is this not cited?

At October 19, 2008 at 8:56 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think they have had that bus for a long time, and it is regesterd as an RV, that is what they use it for.

ask ward 4 council person PAUL HACH he would know about the large greyhound white bus at 57 grant st. IT SHOULD BE MENTIONED IN THE COUNCIL BY WARD REPORT'S... city hall employee 1...

Nice term, now you got the republicans mad at you. Want to get even? complain about the parking in public parking spaces for hours at a time in front of the senior center. Maybe you should call the building dept. and ask why they never get tickets?

At October 19, 2008 at 2:26 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Since their office is in the Senior Center, why can't the Republicans or anyone for that matter, park there as long as there is money in the meter? The seniors have their own parking lot behind the building that only the seniors can park in, so they aren't being hurt in any way.

Seems to me, I recall a certain homeless man that ran for council that parked in front of the Court House all day and days on end.

Here we go again, more petty complaints about one party or the other. What a shame the issues are getting forgotten and parking and sign placement are the issues being discussed here.

Just do your homework on the candidates and get out and VOTE. Until you are really a part of the process, stop your whining.

I think the absurdity began with the title "Painesville's Latest Crisis"
I don't really care. Even if it were constitutional rights discussion, this is by no means a crisis. I have always thought you were kind of over-dramatic but this proves it. It strikes me as funny how bad you want your opinion to be important.

At October 19, 2008 at 5:22 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Funny is the key word here, sorry if you don't appreciate my attempt at sarcasm. It is done "tongue in cheek". I know it not a crisis, or even close. Why is it on the front page of the paper? The absurdity is you taking my headings as dramatic. Chill,I'm glad you look in.

Some want to turn term into the New York Times. I look forward to his posts "Housing Task Force Ships Out" maybe you had to be in the Navy to understand the humor.

The Lawson sign is parked in the muffler shop parking lot, not the bar, and it is in the township, not the city.

they share the lot......... bar and mufflers.....

At October 22, 2008 at 4:57 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It is clearly in the muffler shop parking lot.

At October 22, 2008 at 12:17 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nope, it's a shared lot and the truck is in the
bar/muffler lot......... not voting for her.

At October 22, 2008 at 12:56 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Where ever the truck is parked really doesn't make much difference. If the perception of where it is parked. To the average Joe driving by it leaves him thinking it parked in a bar parking lot. I am sure that isn't Ms. Lawsons intent. Muffler Shop? I always thought Midland Automotive was a radiator repair shop? That truck hurts her more then helps her there.
