"SLOW TRAIN" bob dylan

Sometimes I feel so low-down and disgusted
Can't help but wonder what's happening to my companions

I don't know who dropped the ball but someone did.

RT. 20 Euclid Ave. Mentor Ave. Erie St. North Ridge RD. the main east west road in Lake County. That's not an Interstate highway, Rt. 2 ends in Painesville Twp. This road at the Painesville/ Painesville Twp. line has been blocked for over a week. Now who do we contact? Painesville City council? They control W. Jackson out to the township to the west as well as Fern Dr.  Painesville Twp. Where are their trustee's on this? County Commissioner's?

Look railroads in the 1800's could lay ten miles of track in one day but just what  now a hundred feet of track takes more than a week? No one working at night or the weekend? I guess they all head home to Conneaut and Bellevue? They provide no traffic police to make this workable and all of the leadership turns a blind eye?

Railroads can clear a 40 car derailment in 24 hours but for some reason they can't  make crossing repairs in a week?
Brag all you want about local leadership but it seems to have failed in this situation. Why? No one will ask, just put up with another inconvenience

The railroad should have kept one lane open in both directions or provided the money for  police to direct traffic. I won't even get into the safety issue.

Painesville might have been involved if it included a sidewalk?

More good news Jackson St. bridge over RT.44 is to close Monday?

Home sales in PCLS district

940 N. St. Clair St.                     $34,000
772 W. Jackson                          $32,500
40 Chestnut St.                           $28,000
855 Homewood Dr.                    $150,606  ( seems like that neighborhood is holding it's own.)
could have used a tat too parlor?

Seems the  Trunpster has no idea who is Clinton's Vice- President choice is? Seems he remembers him as the former governor of New Jersey when he owned the New Jersey Generals? No Donny your insult was on the wrong guy? You somehow confused the former Governor of New Jersey Thomas Kean. (1982-1990) who died in 1996.  No Clintons running mate is Tim Kaine Governor  was Governor of Virginia (2006-2010) Trump can't even get his insults right?

Term,
Let's be a little realistic.
Who ever remembers a Vice-President much less a Vice -Presidential candidate? Especially when they are new on the scene.
I would bet a lot of money that most people could not name our last five Vice-Presidents.
I pay a fair amount of attention and I am not sure I could remember this guy (Kaine) if I was asked his name.
Heck, right now I can't think of Trump's running mate!

11`:28 Most people? Well this guy is running to be President, sorry he should know. Not to worry Trump will implode very soon, he's already not wanting to debate? Never have I ever witnessed such a cruel, ignorant person.
And he belongs to the GOP!
Do you think he even knows what a 'Gold Star' mother is?
Now that most of America is watching he goes and talks dumber?

The Gold Star soldier died 12-15 years ago, I believe, at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists. His parents are so misguided and are so badly trying to mislead Americans, that it is shameful, and that goes for you, too, Mr. God, 1:09. Obama and Clinton are denying a problem with having open borders and with letting unlimited Syrian, etc., refugees into this country, even though they are told by Homeland Security that they cannot be properly vetted. Mr. Trump is trying to protect America by wanting to stop these dangerous Democratic practices. You know, save us from the same type of people that killed the soldier whose parents are all over national TV misleading Americans. And I don't think anyone needs you to inform them with your supposed superior knowledge; people who are voting for Trump know exactly who they are voting for and why, and don't need you to "enlighten" them. For all you Democrats who can look around the world at what Islamic terrorists are doing, and what they have already done in, and to, America, and stand by Obama and Clinton, I cannot imagine being more ignorant than that. And I cannot imagine that this soldier, who was killed by radical Islamic terrorists, would agree with the Democratic policy. After all, he saw up close what these people do, and he loved this country enough to give his life for it. I cannot imagine that he would not agree with Trump. I cannot speak for him, of course, but I think his parents are massively misguided, and if Clinton wins, this country will end up like Germany and the rest of the countries under constant siege from terrorists, and they will be in large part responsible for helping it happen.

Not defending Trump but most of America doesn't know what a gold star mother is.

I'm wondering how long this mess on the RR tracks is going to last! If Jim Gills can screw up the Vrooman Road Bridge why did we think for a minute the tracks would be any different! Bet the residents on Jackson Street are just as thrilled as the drivers.

I guess we have to agree to disagree on this.
Just because someone is running for the Presidency doesn't mean (to me) that he/she has to remember the name of everyone, especially on the other side.
Regarding your second point, you have been predicting that for months now. In the end you might be correct but, so far not so much.
I will agree that the "sacrifices" comments he made were pretty clueless.

It appears Trumps Teflon suit is getting sticky....... And now the people of Crimea want to be in Russia and not the Ukraine..... Wow.

At August 1, 2016 at 7:44 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

So now you are a railroad expert too? I believe the lengths of rail for the tracks are very long and span the entire length of the crossings. So how would one be able to close traffic on only one side? If the tracks weren't kept up and damaged your car you'd be complaining no one is fixing them. You always have something to gripe about.

At August 1, 2016 at 8:05 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

4:58 yes he made Putin very happy with his Crimea, Ukraine remarks!
4:33 He at least should know who is on the opposition ticket?
He brought a different meaning to the word sacrifice meaning. I want everyone to know the sacrifices I made purchasing all those Big Mac's, Quarter-pounders and filet of fish along with fries at McDonald's! Keeping those people employed to make them for me. Not doing it for my benefit.
3:18/5:29 I don't believe it is wise to speak for the dead? You have no way of knowing what they would say. I guess it makes you feel better? Donald Trump is running for president against Hillary Clinton not the Khan family. It's second nature for Trump to always have the last word, it's been that way for over 45 years. Propaganda? When the mother of the soldier killed in Benghazi, did she question where the father was? Did she take to insults on Twitter? No it'd called having a moral compass and empathy. Something Trump lacks. I suggest in the end the American people will see the what Trump is an egoist, rude, and wanting a position he knows little about!
In the end I am glad you know why you are voting for him, something I will not be held responsible for.

4:19 I guess I'm showing my age? Gold Star families started I believe in WWI this symbolized a Gold Star in the window is that someone in that household had died in the service to our country. Not so long ago during the Vietnam era. there possible could have been over 58,000 Gold-Star households
This is not to be confused with Blue-Star families these were families that had a family member serving in our Armed Services. We had over 500,000 of those in 1968.
When you were young this was a chilling sight.
We don't teach enough history I guess?

7:44/6:30 I don't know it the county engineer had anything to do with this?
6:30 Go over to Jackson St. with a sign telling motorist's the time to do this is normal? Sorry no excuses for the way NS handled this. Or the community leaders that seemed to have no problem with it. This wasn't a capital project sorry.
If you had a major electric outage or a snow storm in an area. Would you work until Friday at 4:30 and go home for the weekend?

Term,
4:33 here and I have to ask, why?
Why does he need to know the name of the VP candidate on the other side?
People will be voting for either Trump or for Hillary. The names of either VP candidate don't matter even a little bit. People do not vote for them.

Regarding the comment made by 6:30, I agree.
The County Engineer might not be directly involved in this mess but apparently neither is anyone else in the County of City government.
BTW, just how long is Vrooman Rd going to be allowed to be closed before people start demanding answers? We are now approaching two years on the high level bridge and all that was ever done was the clearing of land.
IMO, heads should be rolling for the creation of this mess but of course it is the government so no one is held accountable.

So you think Term is griping about the tracks? you must not travel that way to much? If he was complaining say Tuesday I might agree. But it's ben a whole week and nothing from the city, township and county never mind the railroad who seem in no big hurry. Only by the grace of God can we get in and out of Heisley Park. Complain Term someone dropped the ball big time.

12:02 This could have been avoided with just a bit of organization? Next up Bank St. crossing!
4:33 It just seems logical? He confused the Governor of New Jersey and head of the 9/11 report a Republican as Clinton's running mate. I guess yesterday he just found out that Russia is in the Ukraine? For three years he has been quoted over having a relationship with Putin? Today No? Sometimes the SMARTEST THING HE CAN DO IS SHUTUP.
No clue on Vrooman Rd.?

Term, 4:33 here and I agree on a couple of points.

He should really be reminded that silence can not be mis-quoted. IOW, there are certainly times when keeping quiet would be very wise.

On Vrooman Rd, I know you don't have any answers but apparently no one in a position of power does either.
I am amazed that this much time has passed and NOTHING has been done.

I guess this proves that we didn't need a $35M high level bridge after all!

At August 1, 2016 at 6:28 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

4:29 The smartest thing you can do when your in a hole is quit digging.

As far as the bridge I have always failed to understand the purpose of it? it will connect to Lane Rd. from South Ridge to North Ridge and beyond. Presently that route on Vrooman Rd. is inadequate but is a 35 million dollar bridge the solution? Who's pushing for this bridge as well as the reason?

At August 1, 2016 at 6:42 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

12:02 You bought a house where there is one road in and out. That's on you.

Term, I have always heard that Homeland Security wants the high level Vrooman Road bridge in case there is ever an evacuation due to an accident at the nuke plant. But by the time this bridge gets built, the plant will be decommissioned!

At August 1, 2016 at 7:06 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Vrooman Road Bridge....... Contractor has sued, project is on hold indefinitely. Originally the bridge was pushed through in case the Perry Power Plant blew and another exit plan was needed. The Nursery businesses were thrilled as there was no easy way to get semi trucks to RT 90 other than through downtown Madison. Jim Gills should be taken to the wood shed over this! He should be coming up for re election....... Nice legacy Jim.

So Bank Street tracks will be closed, Madison Ave. tracks closed, one lane open on the Vrooman Road bridge open, Route 20 shut down for two weeks ( opens this Friday). The railroads have more money than Trump so why there weren't night crews working is beyond me. And isn't Giant Eagle screaming, who do they pay taxes too? Township.....

Nobody is accountable to anyone anymore........

And that is exactly why Trump is on the Republican ticket, third parties are going to have a field day and possibly split the vote enough for Trump to sit in the White House and Nero fiddles while Rome burns under global warming.

Smoke 'em if ya got em ...

I would like to know the political history of this bridge project also. Who benefits? We know, who pays.

At August 2, 2016 at 8:56 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

4:59 It goes even farther back then that. Why was the Vrooman Rd. interchange was even built?
As mentioned the idea was to get southbound exit if there was a problem at Perry Nuke Plant? I guess businesses now promote the bridge?
It seems logical to use Rt.44 to Rt.20?
I have been told Rt.20 is in the hands of Ohio DOT? Call your state legislator's for some answers?
6:42 It seems a community with over 300 homes would have more than one way in and out?
We could use that bridge if Sharknado IIII conmes!

At August 2, 2016 at 10:39 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term,
This might or might not be accurate but it makes for an interesting story regardless.
The logical place for an interchange would have been Rt 86. However that was already a state road and was well surfaced. Vrooman Rd however was tar and chipped.
The Commissioners thought that by having an interchange at Vrooman, it would force the State of Ohio to improve the road because of the interchange. Additionally it would help business that normally spring up at most interchanges. The thing they forgot is that there is no water or sewer in that area so development did not occur.
Heck, it took a number of years just to get the road improved.
I had plans for this bridge, on my desk, more than 20 years ago. It was a stupid idea then and nothing has changed.
An "escape route" from the nuke plant?? Are they kidding? There would be such a mess, no matter what roads were used, that traffic would be tied up everywhere.
I think the real reason is for truck traffic in and out of North Perry but no one will ever admit to that.

At August 2, 2016 at 12:55 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

10:39 I have always been told the Congressman from our area pushed for that interchange?
Also as I90 through Lake County was completed in the early 60's politics played a big factor for example You had a bridge over I90 at RT.615 another almost side by side with Little Mountain and Chillicothe Rd.
Wasn't their or still is a BP there? Also wasn't their a restaurant at one time? Seriously only southbound traffic benefits.

There were three gas stations at one time. The only corner that did not have one was the NE corner. Today there is only one.
The restaurant was named Frary's. The food was never good. I used to think that it was the only place where they could screw up the making of toast.
I can't think of his name but there was a real estate developer, based in Mentor on Center St, who was planning condos and all kinds of development on the NW corner of Vrooman and I-90. It all fell apart because there was no water or sewer and he didn't want to pay to get them built.
Today that property is owned by one of the Osborne Companies. They got in legal trouble (imagine that!) in the recent past for some of the stuff they were doing on this land.

At August 2, 2016 at 8:31 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Army Corp of Engineer's shut down the Vrooman Rd bridge project. The county didn't get the proper permits. Now it will take twice as long to get them. Meanwhile the contractor who started the project is suing the county as he is stuck with the materials he purchased, and the county has refused to make any payments.

Someone mentioned decommission of the PNPP.
Isn't the plant WELL past its expiration date? Like it should have closed 20 years ago? Now that the Sharknado hit it, surely it should be put down now. Seriously, how much longer is the shelf life of the Nuke plant?

You would think so but it doesn't work that way in the real world.
Things like poles, cables, and other devices used to transport electricity have an amortized life of, generally, about 25 years. Sometimes more, sometimes less but that is a rule of thumb.
Now I would invite you to look at the Savannah River Nuclear facility. Besides producing electricity, this is where our nuclear weapons materials come from. As I recall, this plant was built just after WWII and it is still in operation. Not is good condition but still operating.
IOW, the people in charge will keep applying band aids until something bad happens. Then they will all deny responsibility.
Bottom line is that First Energy has FAR too much money invested. It will never been shut down in my lifetime and likely that of my grandchildren.

4:49 Agree 100%. Brings up an interesting question though. Where do these life expectances come from? Look at the two major railroad bridges in Painesville? Calamity Curve and the one out by the Riverside? Look how long they have both stood. But they tell us the parking garage only had a life expectancy of 25 years? Either we forgot how to build stuff. or someones pulling our chain?

At August 4, 2016 at 8:35 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term,
I would guess it is that we can't get anything built properly anymore.
In addition to ANY public structure costing 3 or 4 times what it would in the private sector, they want to replace them every X number of years.
Look at our 25 year old jail as a great example. Heck, it is newer than the garage and yet we are told that it can't be fixed.
Then you have the low bidders winning the bidding wars but many times they seem to have inside contacts or information. Thus, you get a second rate structure because the "inspectors" know that they need to look the other way.
Lack of PROPER maintenance doesn't help either. Whether it is a building or a street, maintenance is needed. If it doesn't happen, things go sideways pretty fast.
In the end, who really cares? The tax-payers will just give more money.

At August 4, 2016 at 9:31 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

8:35 Thanks for reminding me. I forgot about the jail. After the elections that will be front and center.
Ever wonder what maintenance over the years went into the parking garage? Instead of pouring close to a quarter of a million into DPO just maybe we should have had a DGO (downtown garage organization?)

Nothing lasts anymore...washing machines, treadmills, vacuum cleaners. I was told now days things are built (cheap, lousy) with very little longevity to the consumer and it's done intentionally. Thank you China. Heck, my friends 18 month old car (not high mileage either) needs new breaks now. America just seem to be regressing instead of progressing.

11:49 How many times have we been told it's cheaper to buy a new one than for me to fix it.
