"KNOCKIN' ON HEAVEN'S DOOR" bob dylan

Friday July 8, 2016

Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore

As I awoke this morning to the news of five dead police officers in Dallas, it was strange I did not feel shock. I believe I am beyond shock anymore. It's all so senseless. Nothing is being accomplished with all the hate around us.

To younger people around us believe me there was a time in my life just as bad. In my youth 1968 seemed as bad yet being young I had no idea how bad it was, now I do.

I can't believe what I have witnessed in the past three day's. This problem is with all of us. The rage and hate of the two shootings in Baton Rouge and Minneapolis.

We live in a society where I have witnessed a Black man pulled over by the police and witnessed the fear in his eyes as the officer approached the vehicle. That shouldn't happen to anyone in this country.

As I watched the cell phone of the killing in Minneapolis the fear that officer exhibited said to me that man's in a job he has no business being in.

Senseless execution of police officers in Dallas? The only reason being they were white and cops. They had done nothing but protected the demonstrators. Yet there was enough hate to kill them.

This is one situation you can't choose sides. the lives of both citizen and police officers must be honored and respected.

The day comes when police no longer respect citizens is followed shortly by the day the police are no longer respected.

No citizen or police officer must feel like a target or being hunted.

Do I have the answer? No the answer will come from all of us.

It appears what seems to be lacking the most this past week is RESPECT for anyone.

I pray to God for the victim's of the past three days. As well as guidance for direction.
We have enough people in the world that want to kill us without we kill each other.

I am curious and haven't been able to find all the data: just how many black and white people have been gunned down by what ratio of black and white police? I know there have been white folks shot by black police and when that happens there's no rioting or backlash as what happens when a white police shoots a black person. Is there a real significant difference or is it because one side is way more vocal and vengeful? Everyone matters - black, white, yellow, red or brown. This hate has to stop but it just gets worse each day.

The rage and hate of the two shootings in Baton Rouge and Minneapolis? You have no idea what happened in those shootings yet. No freakin' idea at all. And you are going to believe the woman's witnessing of what happened BEFORE the tape started to roll. Also, I'd like to see you have to shoot someone in your job and have someone say you shouldn't be shaky. What the stations are not showing is her saying that he had trouble getting his I.D. out of his back pocket, and the officer saying that he told him not to go for his I.D. if he was packing. But he did anyway. And that is the best case scenario. Who knows. You don't know. But you're doing just what the blacks and the media does. Start screaming right away about racism and murder, when you don't have near all the facts. Remember Michael Brown? He never had his hands up. He never said don't shoot. All made up because of one woman's lies. But that's what their movement is based on. None of these blacks ever had their hands up surrendering to the police. Not one of them. Blacks comprise 13% of the population and commit 70% of the hard crimes. But nobody talks about that, and therein lies the problem. No wonder the cops are so afraid of them. Also, cops killed more whites in 2015 than blacks. But there you are completely judging two shootings by the police. You don't have any idea what really happened in either one of those shootings.

12:25/1:06 I guess you missed the whole post? I guess you have the need to fix blame?
1:06 you ask me why I believe a witness at the scene. Then you go and tell a story of different circumstances? I must believe you were there?
Now I may be going out on a limb here, but you appear to believe all police shooting are justified? As police never make a mistake? I guess the man reached for his wallet because he was told not to? The officer never denied the passenger's claim, why not? In the process you convince 13% of the population what they witnessed at times was not what they witnessed? I can't explain the Black experience to you never being Black. But I understand how they must feel when you are so callous with your thoughts. Fortunately I don't feel hunted or a target for police Black or White.. No I don't know what happened But then neither do you?
Keep your small mind thinking this way and in the end there will be more and more people dead in the street because YOU know the truth?
In the end both of these incident's should end in a trial.

1:06 to 4:36. I never said I knew exactly what happened. Read my post. I said nobody does, so quit calling them racist acts. You are seeing the part of the tape over and over and over again that the press wants you to see. They are cutting out the part WHERE THE WOMAN SAYS he had trouble getting his wallet out of his back pocket. That means, apparently, he was stumbling around back there. They are also not showing THE PART OF THE TAPE where the officer says he told him not to go into his pockets for I.D. since he had a gun. And so, yes, the officer does dispute what she said. I'm not making these things up; they are on the tape. The press just isn't showing those parts over and over again, because they want it to seem like a racist act, but early on I saw those other two parts of the tape. It is you who are drawing conclusions before there is any investigation and before anyone knows what really happened. THE PART WHERE HE IS SHOT IS NOT ON TAPE. And, no, I never said I think all police shootings are justified; I imagine occasionally, there could be an error or a purposeful shooting. My entire point was that you need to quit drawing conclusions and calling it racism, when you have no idea. I never said I knew. I'm saying quit race-baiting. Everyone calling the police racists in all these shootings is what most likely ginned this guy up in Dallas to shoot white cops. So stop it; you don't know.

If you have no empathy for the to citizens that were killed but you do for the police, well it explains a lot.

If you have no empathy for the police officers shot in cold-blood but you do for the two citizens then, what you hate the most is in your heart.

no mention of other officers shot in three other states in last few days. one a false 911 call and another in a routine traffic stop..
Does anyone have wait to get shot before one can defend oneself.
How many would go into a life or death situation at any given moment.

Profiling. I told all my kids when they got their drivers license expect to get pulled over. I welcomed the idea. Listen to what an officer says and you shouldn't have a problem. That is no time to have an attitude or act suspicious. We all know teenagers are involved in a greater percentage of accidents.

Time out and let's dial this back a minute. As I watched the last week unfold and stayed up until 3 am watching the devastation in Dallas unfolding before my eyes, in a state of shock, I kept asking; how did we get here? Yes, it's race relations, yes the black parents in all communities raise their kids differently than white kids. It shouldn't be but it is. The officer in Minnesota was pretty close to hysterical, listen to his voice on the tape. This is an officer who had no business putting on a uniform every morning. He is guy very fearful of the community he is servicing. Under the oath he took when he was sworn in to serve and protect, even after he shot the victim he was obligated to call Rescue, he didn't. The victim in Bation Rouge ; someone called to report he was brandishing a weapon. A weapon is a game changer. Why does a guy selling CD's on the street need a concealed weapon? Why does a guy serving lunch in a Montessori school, by everyone's account a very nice guy, need a gun? We live in a state of fear! The police, the citizens, the parents, the children and the communities.
Now let's talk about guns. Each of these incidents has the common denominator of guns. It's still shocking to me to walk into a restaurant in Painesville and see a guy with gun strapped to his belt and know he is the same guy who lives at the end of my street flying the confederate flag. In the past when we saw an individual walking down the street with a weapon, we contacted authorities and there were ramifications. However now it's legal and the common resident is confused. We are told to pay attention and report anything strange or out of place in this new bold fearful world we live in, but I don't know who the terrorists are anymore.
The politicians sold out to the NRA, PERIOD. I am not trying to take your guns away I just want to show up in a public place and not get shot. This conversation is so much bigger than anything written. This is schools, this is parenting, this is poverty, this is ignorance, this community, this is sitting on your porch and waving at the cop who drives by while having coffee with your neighbor.

8:39 Thank-you for putting into words what I have been thinking. I do blame ALL media for it seems their number one purpose seems to be to have us all live in fear?
7:53 I guess I don't understand no reported race?
8:26 A very interesting read
6:42 I guess if your pulled over for a broken taillight or selling CD you should expect it to escalate into a shooting incident? A police officer should not expect to be shot at a domestic violence call, or pulling anyone over.
5:28 My point is this has to end . If we keep this up we will make this a police state that acts like an occupying Army, And people who believe the only chance they have is to shot first.
5:24 You implied you had seen information the rest of us hadn't. Look your two feet from someone and you need to shot five rounds into the car and four of them hitting the driver. I don't believe this is standard police procedure. This officer had no more business being a cop than I do.
My feeling on all these shooting the Black community would like to see justice. That means a trial. For the most part all they get is it was a justified shooting? Show the people it was justified.
Now police officers have one of the worst occupations. Your constantly lied to, threated, and second guessed. 99%+
of all police officer's do there jobs professionally . It's that small group of individuals that seem to believe they are above the law. As our police chief mention do PPD officer has fired a gun in 30 years. I watched a tape recently where PPD used the upmost in time and calm to defuse a possible shooting. That doesn't happen by accident. Luckily we have true professionals in our community.
Let's be honest if there is one community in our surrounding area that should have policing problems it's us.

I think our gun laws are completely backwards. I think everyone with a permit should be made to conceal the gun, unless they have a permit to carry it openly. Then at least we would know which guns we may need to worry about.

10:57 I have no idea how you reached that conclusion. But in South Euclid the morning of the shooting a Black lady put a rose and a note on all SE police vehicles? Guess she didn't feel pain for the Dallas deaths? What did you do?

6:41, this is 10:57. I'm not talking about the Dallas police deaths. I'm talking about the random deaths of cops around the country this week, which nobody seems to mention. But everyone sure is talking about the two black deaths. The one guy on the ground had a hand disappear from under the officer, when one of the officers shouted "gun!" That guy resisted arrest, and could have ended up at the station to sort it out had he not. The guy in the car...nobody knows yet, including the police department, who is already saying it was an unjustified death, along with Obama, and you. The parents of the kid who was shot in Ferguson is making statements about their innocent kid being killed. He attacked the cop! He didn't have his hands up; he didn't say don't shoot. The guy who died because of injuries in the back of the van...if you watch the part of the tape that the stations quickly quit showing, even though he pretended he couldn't walk, which the cops said he did all the time, you can see he clearly and easily stands up at the back of the van before they put him in the van. The citizen arrested in the back of the van at the same time, said that he thought the guy was trying to injure himself, because it sounded like he was throwing himself around in the van. The media quickly quit playing those two parts of the tape. It's all a ridiculous narrative that is not based in fact. Cops kill more whites in spite of the fact that blacks commit 70% of the bad crimes, and blacks almost never comply with the commands of the cops, but the whites mostly do. There is no talk of this in this whole thing, so the entire scenario that is playing out in the U.S. is disingenuous at best, and is actually wrong -- fueled by the president, of course. And I wonder how many cops are killed by whites every year, and how many cops are killed by blacks. The cops are afraid of blacks, as they should be, because of the statistics, and because of their non-compliance. Even when you hear blacks talk about complying with police, it's inside this big narrative that if you don't, the cop will kill you; they say nothing that it is your civic duty to follow all commands of the police, and to keep your hands where the cop can see them, etc., because this is what we need to do to make their job safe and as easy as possible. The entire narrative of what is going on in this country is wrong -- fueled by the president -- and now the blacks think they are more justified than ever. And nobody is talking about the horrific crime-ridden cities they create. Blacks need to talk about what blacks are going to do to fix this mess. And the government should be making sure that all police departments have what it takes to train all officers the best they can so everyone can stay alive, including the cops. So big deal, one black woman put roses on police cars. And lets also talk about all the whites that blacks kill, along with all the blacks that blacks kill. Part of the problem is that blacks are always looking for lawsuits against the police, so they act and react accordingly. It's the wrong scenario that is permeating this country, and now it's out of control more than ever. The blacks need to take responsibility for what is happening to them, but you don't hear one word of that. Is Beyoncé going into the black neighborhoods and telling the blacks to go to school and get educated, get a job, and learn how to join the rest of the U.S.? No, I think not, and neither is Obama. He's hurt blacks more than anything in this country has, but they're all to happy to go along with it, as if it's everybody's fault but their own. It's dangerous what he and this country is doing now and, as proof, we have an awful lot of dead cops to show for it, and not just the Dallas cops. That's the problem with blacks; it's never their fault, and this is setting them back for generations, and is taking America along with it.

Well nobody knows? Your right the guy in the car was only shot four times? We don't even know if the guy in Baton Rouge was the right guy? And we will never hear their side of the story, because they are dead.
Estimated 800,000 police officer's in this country and ALL of them are choirboy's? No some that patrol our streets have no business in that position. Even if only 2% that's 16,000 officers. Seems you have it a little backwards. It's never their fault.
We are going down the tubes and in my eyes your views are just as toxic as the Black who blames everything on the cops. Myself I've heard enough from both sides. In an issue where there shouldn't be sides!

Blacks have suffered under police brutality for generations. The good news? It is changing rapidly. True professionals know what their job and responsibility are. Like the Black woman shot in Dallas where a police officer shielded her. She was with some of the 784,000 police officers that know what protect and serve means. If your ever are in a bad spot I hope you will be surrounded by good people.
You, should scrutinize all claims of violence..
In the end I will keep my dumb words in my mouth, the day you start respecting people no matter what their color. I fear your generalization feed the fire and not extinguishes it?

Sorry, but the black people dont need a license for anything. I'm sure everyone remembers New Orleans and Katrina, I'm sure you remember all the riots and looting when something happens in their community. People, this is not normal nor the way to handle problems. It is however their license to behave this way. It's happened years ago and continues. Do you see any white people acting this way during a tragedy? Nope, didnt think so. Maybe what these people are lacking are the social skills and psychological means to cope. But please, do not turn around and put the blame on the white folk "keeping them down". I know and have known many prominent blacks that would NEVER behave this way.

THIS whole part of the blacks feeling justified in their racism of whites and continually in the faces of cops instead of complying with the cops, started with Obama getting involved with professor Gates. Professor Gates set out immediately upon being questioned by the cop, who was just doing his job, to not cooperate and prove racism where none existed. Then the president got involved, blamed the cop, make a big public spectacle of the fact that the cop was a racist when he was just doing his job, and the president's narrative continued on, and leads us where we are today. Now we have open season on cops, and a black community that is more racist and out of control than ever. They will never finish integrating into America, and they will always be a problem; now worse than ever. We're lucky we have any cops left, and I can't imagine anyone becoming or staying a cop under all the circumstances in America now.

At July 11, 2016 at 2:22 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

26 cops have been killed in 2016 so far, up 44% from 2015. As Obama has upped his rhetoric against cops and has spurred on riots and demonstrations, it has, indeed, started an open-season on police officers in America. I think there have been 5 shootings of police officers in the last week alone, and that does not include the officers in Dallas. In all the cases that I just looked up, it was a black doing the shooting, and saying it was in retaliation for all the blacks killed by police. After Obama's shake-down of the cop in the Gates incident, that spurred on all these blacks that you see beginning an immediate and uncontrolled confrontation with police as soon as they are pulled over, or whatever. No compliance here. They're going for a lawsuit and for internet sensationalism. It's just recently that Obama quit spurring on riots and disrespect of police, now that he is being taken to task for what he has started. And what he has started will not be over for many generations, if ever. He should have been preaching black responsibility...go to school, get a job, respect police, quit committing crimes, comply with police, and he should have been telling the blacks to clean up their acts. But that's not what he did; he did this instead. And now we have blocks in cities burned down, all kinds of police being hurt by protestors, and it's open season on killing cops. Did he ever even once tell the blacks that it's their civic duty to be respectful and to fully comply with cops? No, he didn't; he promoted disrespect and noncompliance. In almost every one of these cases, the blacks resisted arrest or even a discussion with police. I am ashamed of my vote for Obama, and I will never vote for a black again. The blood of these cops are on his hands, and if he hadn't spurred the blacks on to disrespect cops, who knows how many of the ones killed recently would still be alive. Black noncompliance has always been a huge, frightening problem for police, and now it is condoned and spurred on by the president. Maybe Michelle Obama can tell us one more story about how she was so prejudiced against by a white in Target when the white asked her to reach for something on the top shelf for her.

No, white people do not have control - We have a black president (whom I voted for FIRST term only) in charge of our country and very liberally exercises 'executive order' for ridiculous issues. As for FEMA- tell me why the government MUST give to people after disasters? My tax dollars were involved and were not spent wisely. Where in the constitution does it say our government must provide FREE homes, cell phones, health care, hospitalization, etc.? We as taxpayers are under no obligation to do this, yet we have to and its very much abused.

It amazes me how so many white people are more upset at the reaction to the shootings versus being upset at the actual shootings. You will never understand what blacks experience when dealing with police. It is not just the moments that dictates the situation. It is a life of being treated differently when interacting with police. I myself have no criminal record but I have had a gun pointed at me for a routine traffic stop more than once. Never arrested. Was told it was for both of our safety and this was in Lake County. The issue is the years of being treated as second class citizens. Some cops, not all use the position as a power trip. They believe the badge gives them authority to forget their people skills and address individuals with respect. Some antagonize the situation and dare you to respond likewise. We need to remind the police that they work for the public and when they act inappropriately they should face consequences as anyone else would when at work. Complaints are overlooked and tossed out. Yes we have people of all colors. And maybe the numbers show more whites than blacks being killed by police, but if you look at percentages of those being killed and what the initial situation was, you would see the difference. These individuals are being killed during non violent offenses. Traffic stops! Selling DVD's! We need to stop saying they should have listened to the officer. Maybe the officer should have approached the situation differently. Maybe they should not be an officer. Remember that some departments have quotas. This means, find so many people guilty in order to make money. Really! Once we began making crime a profit making staple within our cities, we opened the door for these unjustified times where people are getting harassed. America is responding to this racial divide that is being fanned by our politicians. It was started with the Mexicans being targeted, but don't get too comfortable because they will not be the only people to be segregated against. Blacks, you are next if we don't stop what is happening in government.

I first was hurt by the comments on this blog. but I'm past that. I tired of black people blaming the quality of their lives always on white people. I get many of you feel the black community doesn't want the police. Yes we do. Police sometimes assume to much. Our President gave an inspiring speech yesterday and already many have found fault in it. He had no part in creating any of this! That falls on us. That falls on a police officer watching another officer promote brutality. That falls on a black community that feels it must support the hoodlums and gangster's along with good black people. There I've had my say and do the best to get along with everyone. And looking forward instead of back!

Term,
I was interested in your citing "promote the general welfare". The way you seemed to use it was at odds with the way I understand it.
Given that, I did some research on it and here is what I found:

"promote - support or actively encourage.
general - affecting or concerning all or most people, places, or things; widespread
welfare - the health, happiness, and fortunes of a person or group.

So, promoting the general welfare is the act of actively encouraging the widespread health, happiness and fortunes of Americans.

When we think of the current welfare system it fits this description by keeping people on their feet while they go through tough times. The same can be said for unemployment.

However, it doesn't mean the government is supposed to just give it to you. Their job is to actively facilitate opportunity so that the US can remain "the land of opportunity."

I don't claim to have all the answers but I would say that, from what I found, it doesn't seem to imply that people are owed anything except an opportunity.

Not trying to start a flame war but just pointing out differences in understanding the words. I guess that is why courts exist.

8:20, this is 7:20. If he was white maybe this wouldn't have happened? I myself was questioned years ago on my own front porch at night as a white and by a white officer. I showed I.D., and the cop, who was being a total jerk, by the way, ended up helping me. Professor Gates immediately went into a racist stance and rant and refused to talk to and cooperate with the cop. Then when he ended up in handcuffs, he paraded around in them as a racist black proving that the white cop had just violated his civil rights. Gates is a racist black who created the situation and Obama made the white cop pay.

And by the way, jackass, your comment about me not wanting a black eating off the White House china is a race-baiting, disgusting statement. I voted for Obama twice, although the second time was reluctantly, because I already knew what a racist he was and that he was not only not helping the blacks, but he was hurting America beyond measure, although I have to say, even I am shocked he took it this far and hurt America so badly. Instead of your knee-jerk reaction, why don't you actually read what I wrote; it's all true. If blacks would have joined America when they should have, we would not have these problems. They need to look at themselves, and clean up their own acts. When you have 50% of a race's population committing over 70% of the violent crimes in America, even though they compromise only 13% of the population, and they're petty crime rate is off the charts, there is no sense in looking to blame other races. It does nobody any good except for race baiters like you. Even Obama had to just actually admit that. Gates decided, and then demanded, that he be above the law, when he was actually lucky that cop was looking out for the neighborhood and his home. It was his own racism that created and then relished in the situation. Being a friend of Obama's, then he had the president on his side, and they started the whole horrible scenario that we have seen unfold in the last 7-1/2 years. And it's people like you making statements like I can't admit I can't stand a black family eating off of the White House china who sickeningly continue the horrible scenario that Obama has helped create. I am a white who has had many black friends and dated a black for several years. So stop your disgusting crap. That is the disgusting crap that has let them blame everyone else but themselves and has allowed them to get away with not joining America. You're sickening.

If it started 250 years ago? How long do people hold a grudge? The people of now are NOT the ones who were slaves and NOT the ones that held slaves captive. Its time to move forward, get over the past crimes that no one had a thing to do with. But...certain ethnic groups still need the white folk to blame rather than self check and move forward.

8:04 A grudge? I don't know ask the Israel's and the Egyptians? So I guess you mean let's have a come to God moment?
This is pretty much entrenched in our DNA, I guess the best way to explain it was the way Newt Gingrich did. "If you aren't Black you probably don't get it."
Oh, and Black people don't get a free ride either. If a police officer posted on Instagram an image of a police officer slitting the throat of someone in Black Lives Matter. He I would expect to be gone, fired that service we don't need.
But if your a Cleveland Brown running back I guess you get a pass? News-Herald writer John Kampf did a column on Isaiah Cromwell who apparently posted a police officer getting his throat slit? Why is he still a member of this organization? Is he know the face of the Cleveland Browns? Cut him let some other NFL team attempt to rehabilitate him, He's not taking this team anywhere anyways.
I don't want to here he's a young man who made a mistake. No he is a gifted athlete who spent time in college and should know better. Along with this not being the first time he Instagramed something stupid. Apologize to the families of those slain police officer's. Keep your $35,000 just quit becoming a part of the problem. And find a new home Baltimore comes to mind. You can have an affect on young minds there.

Now there are three more dead cops. The blacks, Obama, and people like Term don't want an honest conversation about racism in this country, as they keep saying they do. They don't want to talk about black racism holding back an entire race, and certainly blacks are not accountable for themselves. They want to talk about slavery in the year 2016 and blame their refusal to move on, and to continuously move backwards, on the whites. They want to continue to have it's-all-white-peoples-fault conversations. Obama has been a master at this. Now there are three more dead cops, and now that he has helped them set this all in motion -- worse than it already was -- there will be more dead cops for generations to come. Instead of Obama going to all these funerals for dead cops, the families of these officers need to take the badges of these brave public servants, and bring them to Obama and lay them at Obama's feet, as he might as well have pulled the triggers himself.

O.K. I tried and obviously failed.

Now you start the conversation and don't forget to include how it will be implemented?

I guess it's hard for some to move forward with thinking like yours around.
Solutions, Please! not blame
