""LEANNE" snuzz

Bulletin;

FYI the railroad has closed Mentor Ave. at railroad tracks by Giant Eagle. Directing traffic onto Fern and Jackson also major tie ups at Palmer and Jackson. Expect delays and no Police or Sherriff helping to direct  traffic in this area.

What are you doing here

Attended the joint Christine Shoop and Michael DeLeone Town Hall Meeting at city hall yesterday evening.

City Engineer Leanne Elum was the guest speaker. The main reason for her being there was to explain the Cedarbrook Basin now under construction. When the meeting was open to the public I never realized how upset some residents were concerned with their streets? I didn't help much by me mentioning Rockwood and Levan being on the list this year. Some residents were told by council people their road isn't scheduled until 2020? Now in Leaanne's defense she wasn't here when some of these plans were drawn up and I felt bad she was taking all the incoming from the audience. "If I could sell my house I would be gone!"

Majority of the people from the North End of Painesville. And I will admit the streets in Ward I are amongst the worse in Painesville. Some wanted to know why that was? Well in the past the North End has been the Red-Headed Stepchild of Painesville. Best guess why?  Low voter turnout and an administration, council in the past that had little regards for their councilman's concerns. Some remembered when a certain council-presidents court was repaved as an example? (Grenney Lane?)
As I mentioned to an attendee get on council your problem will be solved.

After the meeting a Skinner Ave. resident complained of the deterioration of his street, which he blamed on the truck traffic due to the new Richmond St. bridge into Fairport. I asked if he ever came to a council meeting to express his concerns? Called a member of council? No to both questions. The city will now look into the state funding repair on Skinner Ave. Best guess? Sorry did you ever write any overload ticket's during that time?

I will mention here that the present administrator for the most part are some much more receptive to residents compared to say ten years ago. It's  been a slow process. But as I listened to residents and this is no reflection on the job Anthony Carson is doing. This city needs a Mayor. More reasons later.

In closing Leanne you took the shots and held your ground and you are a vast improvement over what we dealt with in the past!

Cedarbrook Basin sounds like a plan, wonder how it will work out for people living north of it?

The announcement of the Kasich, Cruz alliances made me think back to June 7, 1944.  After receiving reports from the western front. In Hitler's bunker I hear him telling his Generals, maybe we should send a few more Panzer Divisions to Normandy? To late Adolf the allies have already landed!  This plan of theirs should have been launched month's ago to stop Drumpf.

Imagine my surprise!!
I would bet that the same police chief who doesn't think that residents should know of people taken into to custody in their neighborhood probably doesn't think that officers might be a help in routing traffic around a road closure.
Call me old fashioned but isn't directing traffic part of the job of police?
They aren't doing much good by driving around the City when help is needed.
I wonder if any Council members feel this way?

While you were correct to ask the gentleman from Skinner Ave. if he'd called his council rep or attended prior council meetings regarding the condition of said avenue, I have received the impression, from speaking with neighbors and others who live here, that it's become increasingly unlikely that doing either accomplishes much of anything; council often does what they want to do, regardless of what their constituents think (with the exception of the few movers/shakers in town). Perhaps part of this is that they are pretty much guaranteed to be reelected, since many voters here choose the name with which they are most familiar, regardless of their actual qualifications (I'm looking at you, Tom Fitzgerald!). Once someone gets elected to council, it's theirs for as long as they want it, unless they either do something exceedingly egregious/stupid, or simply rub enough people the wrong way (I'm looking at you, Hal Werner!). The danger with having council members becoming too confident in winning reelection time and time again is the risk of complacency, or worse, arrogance (I'm looking at you, Joe Hada!).

12;09 Well the first question should be was the Sherriff or Painesville PD even notified? I also sent a picture of two Painesville EMS vehicles stopped at the Chestnut Crossing? They appeared to be going to a home and not have a person in the ambulance at that time.
During this time three long NS trains went through Painesville at 5 mph in a row.
5:51 You seem to have a handle on things around here. I do disagree Tom Fitzgerald could be a excellent councilman just to many business constraints.

Just what do you want to prove by taking a picture of EMS stopped at the tracks? Whats your point? Trains have been blocking these tracks for eons and nothing will ever be done here. This is nothing new.

6:25 My point? When my parents bought their home on Cedarbrook in 1956there was no Brentwood, College Hills, three schools Cedarbrook ended at Southington nothing but trees from there. Then that development along with Liberty Greens and Kensington.
I guess something real bad has to happen or someone dying before anything is done? About 8 years ago with the break-up of Conrail and the city being told of an increase of train traffic on that line. At that time the city should have demanded an overpass or an underpass at Bank, Liberty or Chestnut pick one so the city could get back to that side of town. Now if you are in an ambulance going to Tri-Point from south of Erie St. how long will you wait? Sooner or later this will also bite us in the A##!
That's just my point.

Are you really that naive or just anti-Term?
Without proof, it never happened.
A photo is proof that something DID happen and that the City had warning of the consequences.

Term, the question is, who would the City have demanded build the overpass? This was caused by maintenance work on the crossing at Rt 20, not by any increase in rail traffic.

2:57 Seems Painesville was involved in a perfect storm? First the population growth south of the tracks, never mind the wisdom in locating three schools south of the tracks. Then the hospital moved five miles south, with only two access ways to get there Richmond St. Rt. 2 to 44 south and Rt.84 south, If your south of Erie St. chances are you will be taken south via Chestnut St. Also remember if you have a medical emergency say on Walnut St. with Lake East it wasn't a problem but now its is.
Also during this time Conrail was broken up causing longer and more frequent trains on that line. To add more to the situation if you cross Chestnut St. if you look west there's a signal same as if you look east. These are stop lights for the railroad. When these signals are red a train cannot proceed into the next 'Block' West as well as Eastbound trains will always block Chestnut St. Westbound could block all three Painesville street crossing. Eastbound the signal is west of Liberty St and leaving it open but a good chance of not only blocking Chestnut but Mentor Ave. too.
This situation is only a disaster waiting to happen. When the hospital decided to move Painesville should have moved on a solution to this dilemma. At the time our congressman was a powerful member of the surface transportation committee, he should have been made aware of this at that time, was he? Now you can build another fire station south of the tracks but that doesn't solve the medical situation on Walnut St. And I will add here how many times a Township EMS has to cross those same tracks heading to Tri-Point? Same situation with a police call south of the tracks. We have been very fortunate so far I question will our luck run out someday? A loved one waiting for a train should not be part of the 21st century.

Agree that a mayor might be better! Council pushes to the administration and the administration says we do what Council wants. Translated: Nobody does anything!

I am neither but you 2 clowns crack me up. Those tracks have been there how long? Many years and many times the blockage of those tracks have been brought up Numerous times. Still, nothing ever has been done. An over or underpass? You do realize the cost of it? And Yes, that too has been addressed. All of this has been brought up here many times in discussion and how the city is handling the problem. So, you think by 1 photo you are going to change this situation? Silly people. Nothing changes here and you just keep re-hashing very old, stale news still.

4:52 Well this "Clown" realizes that the situation has evolved. And the city hasn't. Your attitude is probably the main reason nothing changes. I do hope it's not you or a loved one waiting on a train in an emergency.

12:57 Bulls eye!

Sorry, but way before the new schools and allotments were built, the train traffic WAS brought up. The fact that now there are more homes and more children that are cut off by the train traffic and NOTHING was done then. Nothing will be as I mentioned here on this site years ago and way before your comment on the 29th at 9:18AM. This has always been a disaster waiting to happen then add more buildings and people without a plan - the city gets what it asks for. They are well aware of this situation yet make no effort to fix it. But we got great sidewalks, streetscapes and bathtub racing!

For everyone complaining about which streets are being paved maybe they should look a little deeper. Along with road paving there is also gas line replacements plan and water line replacement plans(yeah, remember we are paying for that also?). Rockwood makes sense, it had the oldest water and gas lines so was at the top of the list for those replacements, which have been done. That means that once the road is paved it won't need to be dug up again for water, gas line replacement.

So, if you are wondering about your street paving, you should really ask about where you are on the water line, gas line list.

At May 1, 2016 at 10:15 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

6:42 that's an interesting take? But who decides which waterlines to replace first? Even if this wasn't done consciously it still gives the everyday resident a thought of should they continue funding this program? Everything in the city's power would suggest this should, would be a non-issue. It will take at least three more renewals to put our streets back in good shape. I fear what resident's have witnessed here in the first round may make this renewal some what harder to pass.

At May 1, 2016 at 12:42 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

How long was the road levy for? When will it come up for renewal? If I remember there were 3 up for vote, 2 passed one didn't. What other passed and when is that up for renew? The one that didn't pass was the police? Now the police one will be going up for vote again also?

What I can say with 100% certainty is that State St was repaved about 8 to 10 years ago. The paving went from E Erie St south to at least the NS tracks.
In the time since this was done, I can't begin to count the number of dig ups for water, sewer, gas, or whatever. I can further state that I can't find one spot that was dug up where it was restored correctly. I invite you to go through the intersection of W Walnut and S State St as an example of poor workmanship.
The City crews don't care because the Administration doesn't make them care.
Now add in the collapsing of the water and sewer lines south of Walnut St, in the southbound lanes, and we have real problems right here in River City.

Living in ward 2 one thing remains constant no matter if it was Horvath, Werner and now Jenkins all have one same trait. They are all selfish self serving representatives! I didn't vote for Horvath, Werner and now I'm done with Jenkins! If that woman spent as much time on city business as she spends on facebook just something might get done around here. I guess when all her needs are done she might turn to check on us? 6:42 was probably written by her.

12:42 both are 5 year levies that will have to be renewed. Sold as not a tax increase. The fire levy will also come up due to an expensive piece of equipment we will have to soon purchase. (new tower truck) I have no idea what or if there will be a try for another police levy.

1:58 I did an informal and unscientific road trip on many of the roads mentioned here as well as last Monday night. Some of you will not be happy with some of my conclusions. First north as well as south St. Clair are a mess. From the Fairport bridge to Chester St. as well as south from Washington to Walnut St. the rain exposed this very clearly. Sanford St. is also a mess especially under the Rt.2 bridge. Hine Ave. between Transit and N. St. Clair is a mess. Skinner Ave. of the above mentioned streets along with S. State St. are in need of repair but not as bad as the above mentioned. Another street not mentioned was Jackson St. from Richmond to the western city limits. A small section of Cedarbrook in front of Cedarbrook School was left undone when Cedarbrook was repaved, for what reason I have no idea. Chestnut is very close to being a failure.
Overall Ward II seems to have some of the better condition of streets followed by Ward III, and Ward IV. just don't count new developments in any ward.(Liberty Greens Heisley Park)
Ward I main arteries need the most extensive repairs.
Now you can disagree and I expect some of you will. Off hand I believe it will be another 15 years before people stop laughing at our streets.
I haven't mentioned side streets. and many are a mess also. All caused by a past administration of neglect.

Term,
This is 1:58 and I agree with you completely.
I wasn't meaning to imply that S State St needs work as much as many other roads. Sorry if it came out that way.
I was trying to say that it was repaved and the City administration just let it go to hell much faster than should have happened.
By all means, there are a LOT of roads in need of more help than State St and you certainly hit on many of them.
I agree that we had 20 years of neglect so we be paying for it for the next 20 years.
Now, if we can only get the Administrators to go out, look at the condition of the roads, and admit there are issues.

3:30 I did drive done S. State St. and it needs repair. It looks like someone played Whac-a-Moe on the street? The city must of received some new equipment because they seem to be doing a better job of closing the street?

So 2 people of a population of 19000 people have a problem with the train traffic on the south end of Painesville? Where have you been over the past 30 plus years? My questions to you 2 - Will you support a levy to build an over or underpass? If so, will you support the loss of businesses that will be eliminated to provide this? Will you support a levy to fund building another facility on this end of the city? Nope, I didn't think so. It's so easy to complain but you cant come up with a logical solution to the problems you create.

During the break up of Conrail there were grant funds to help cities like Painesville but we didn't even ask.

Things are different from 30 years ago.
Skirting along the farmlands of Northeast Ohio CSX train rolls through Hicksville, Ohio. With 3 Locomotives and 251 cars at over 15,000 feet 21,016 tons. No trains like that 30 years ago?
Close to a 3 mile long train.

At May 5, 2016 at 1:01 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, things are different, but those trains blocked those same crossings, Liberty St and the rest of them (by Dabates and Coe, whatever the streets are)Many times when one crossing was blocked Id try going to the next street down only to find it blocked and so on. So please don't try to trick new residents to think this is a new problem - its not.
