"WORKIN' IN A COAL MINE" lee dorsey

Apt title with all the problems coal plant's have had recently.

But this is a different story it takes place in Tennessee of all places.

It seems our Republican legislators can't just get into just bedroom issues, along with women rights, equal pay, now they take on both a company and a union.

There is a Volkswagen Plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee that the UAW has been trying to organize for two years.
Now Volkswagen America, as well as corporate headquarter in Germany do not have an issue with the plant becoming union, as a matter of fact the UAW has agreed to establish "work councils" that work great at other Volkswagen plants. So today the 1,500 workers will go to vote if they want UAW representation. So who's making threats?

The top two leaders in the state have other ideas. Republican Governor Bill Haslam ( yeh the brother of one of the three stooges and owner of the Browns) along with Republican Senator Bob Corker? They have both threatened that if the plant goes union, the incentives to increase the plant to produce a new SUV will dry up.
So I guess these two would rather have no jobs instead of union jobs? Doesn't make much sense that the Republican Party would get involved in this matter does it?

On top of that Grover Norquist has paid for at least twenty billboards around Chattanooga to stop the union. Good thing Koch Brothers have deep pockets.

Now the last time I looked the Browns organization players were unionized. For that matter the Tennessee Titans also were unionized and the state had no problem providing the Titans with cash to build a new stadium? Is there a contradiction?

Maybe the people in Tennessee and Cleveland would have been better off if the Haslam Bros. would have just run their gas stations ...Honestly!

Politics? "I'm Lovin it!"

Great House of Cards is on with new episodes. A fictional government where Congress works and things get done.

In this country labor and management have a very adviseral relationship, not always working out for the greater good of the company. Volkswagon, in their German plants, does not have this adviseral relationship and in fact invites workers to be on the board. It works. UAW could be using VW as prototype for keeping jobs.

Union representation was voted down by around 100 votes. At least they held a vote.
Senator Corker you had better pray that SUV plant is built at that plant and not Mexico.

How is a resident to know when the parking snow ban is in effect and when it is lifted?

1:09. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I think that the snow ban starts when there is 2" of snow. Maybe it's on the city's website. Does anyone know if that is correct?

8:54 Yes it will be on the city web site, and be released to all news agencies.
It will NOT be put on the city's Code Red.

So what that means, is that nobody can park their car in the street when they are not awake, because you never know when it is going to snow. Too bad for people without enough driveway parking; I see the need to have the cars moved, but I also have sympathy for residents who will have a difficult time because of logistics complying with this, especially with a $50.00 ticket, plus towing, etc. That's a mighty big deal for most folk.

5:04 Weather forecasters do a pretty good job, The safety of the plow drivers, police, and resident outweigh the logistics you mentioned. I see single family homes in Painesville with eight cars in the driveway and on the street, explain why?

Term 8:25. The only explanation I can think of is Mexicans, and they don't belong here anyway, so that part is okay with me. I was at a meeting about the illegals in town a few years back, and the police had a million reasons why they couldn't bust those houses with way too many people living in them. But really, 50.00 on top of the towing and everything else is a lot. I'm just sayin'.

2:52pm, yes, $50 would be a lot if a car is actually cited. My guess is the mexican cars WILL NOT get any citations. Nothing is done when they break the noise ordinance. Why would anything be done about this?

9:20 My best guess is everyone will be citied the same.
Noise can be turned down. A car can't drive away on it's own.

9:20, you are probably right. They'll pass up the house/street with 10 vehicles, because they can figure it's Mexicans, and they'll probably leave them alone, but they'll get the homeowner with one car in the street, because they'll figure it's not a Mexican. You have to be a Mexican to get a break in this town. When the police attended that meeting about the illegal Mexicans in this town a few years back, they said it was hard to bust those houses for having too many people living in them. Upon further questioning, it became clear that if they DID try, they were going during the day when everyone was working, not when the ten huge vehicles were there in the evening after work or on the weekend! It just seemed like it was a way to get around it. Yeah, go on the call sometimes, but go when you're sure nobody will be there. What a bunch of bull.

The reason the cops say it will be done durning the day is because that fall under the city building dept. and they only work day shifts. The police do not enforce building code , nor do they enforce how many people are allowed in a building. That's the fire dept. now what's your problem other that you have no idea what your talking about. 4:12.

This is 4:12. I do know what I am talking about. I was at the meeting, and they said every time they go to the houses (this was several years ago, as I said), there is nobody there and they can't tell. After there was more questioning, it was ascertained that they were going during the day when they were all working. They were asked could they go at night, or at least after normal working hours for most people, and they said well, maybe that would solve the problem. But I don't think anything was every changed. So sorry, everyone, I was at the meeting and the former police chief and his captain were the ones answering the questions. I came away with the feeling that that is probably what McMahon wanted them to do...to go there when no one was home so they couldn't catch them. Or maybe they just hadn't put enough effort into it to go that far, or to think about it that much. So what?...has it changed?...does any one know of any house that was ever busted for that? I don't. So Term, 9:11, you don't KNOW that I am wrong, and 9:59, you don't think that that is a problem if the city can't coordinate the correct people to take care of these problems at the right time of the day or night? I certainly know that they have plenty of complaints about that, but I have never heard anyone say that anyone went to any house to deal with it. And 9:59, read your post again. You are saying that it is a different department than the police, and that department only works during the day so, therefore, it can't be done. If that's the case, I'm not the only one with a problem, am I?

9:59, 4:12 is absolutely right. I live by houses that I have reported for the cars parked on front lawns and in the streets during the snow ban. NOTHING is done. NOTHING! Mexican get a break. Why, I'm not sure. But I do know they get a break.

So just because it is a 9-5 job, someone can break the law. What a crock. I'm sorry, have someone work an evening shift to get rid of these problems then give them a day off. Just flip-flop the day and evening shift. If Im not mistaken it isn't a union job so there is no violation of job description and if it is, get someone working who is willing to do the job they were hired for.

This is 4:12. Thanks for the backup. I just had a big problem with my new Mexican neighbors. I didn't want to escalate any trouble, but I did want to make out a police report just to document the situation. (I did not want the police to come out.) I had to try to change the report three times, because the officer was getting the whole thing wrong, and I had the feeling he was doing it on purpose. Finally I said I give up. Just leave it that way, and put on there that I said the report does not have completely accurate information in it, and it does not entirely reflect the situation, but I don't care to try to talk to the officer AGAIN, and change it again. All three times when I was talking to him, I knew he just didn't care about it. But it was Mexicans, and this town lays off the Mexicans. Remember Judge Ciconetti (I don't know how to spell his name), giving the illegal Mexican a slap on the wrist for driving illegally. He said he felt SORRY FOR THEM. Well, I don't know of any legal citizen that gets that kind of consideration.

If you want the police in Painesville to do something about the illegals, you might as well be Ferris Bueller's teacher standing in front of the class going Bueller......Bueller.......Ferris Bueller?......

2:32 I suggest you sit down with the Chief of Police and explain the situation to him. He is a fair person and will listen to your concerns. You should get resolution to your issue.

Term 2:39, this is 2:32. Thanks for trying to help, but I didn't want the police to actually DO anything. I wanted to handle it myself. But I did want to get the whole thing down in a report just in case I couldn't, or in case more and more things continued to happen. In the end, I believe it was the Chief of Police who had to give permission for my "I give up on trying to get a good report..." statement to be on the report, so I believe he was 100% aware of my frustration with trying to get a decent report on the situation. He never offered another officer or stepped in himself. I was too sick at the time to take it any further, and I had my hands too full with the neighbors, to be going through that much trouble with the police. I, at least, had my statement on there to say the report was not completely accurate. The officer had not put everything in there that needed to be in there for my side and he also, in a statement or two, made the other side look worse in a situation than they were. Everything was bad enough just telling it like it was, and I didn't want any inaccuracies. Obviously a police officer should also be careful to have the whole truth in a report, but this guy couldn't have cared less.

I have not personally seen anything in this current police department that gives me any feelings of safety or confidence and, as a matter of fact, quite the opposite. I find the officers rude, and I don't see them trying to do their jobs correctly in any instance, so it wasn't a complete surprise when I couldn't get that report done correctly. And it was about Mexicans, and in my experience around here, and from what I hear from others also, this is a "hands-off the Mexicans" kind of town.
