"GIVE ME SILVER, BLUE & GOLD" bad company

I see in today's News-Herald 08/01/13 the reporters tried to explain Painesville's former superintendents roll in the district that will cost all of us $111,000. I cannot in any form see the justification of this money being spent on him
for the next five months. First since becoming our superintendent things have spiralled down not up.

Over a $1000 a day for his advise? I got some advise to the BOE don't let deals like this become public, that advise is for free!

Now the President of the Board of Education claims he is entitled to this, well I'll call it a gift.
If he is entitled to this in the first place why must he work twenty days a month to receive his entitled benefits? Doesn't sound like to smart of a guy to have running your schools.

That $111,000 could have been put to better use than this. How will the BOE ever negotiate with the two unions that they have to negotiate with?

Chardon believes Dr. Hanlon can pass levies? even if that were true will it be worth what it will cost Chardon in academics achievements?  That will be fun to watch. In the story it mentioned that Chardon has him under contract for $120,000 a year for three years. Now we in all our wisdom have him under contract for five months for $111,000. That amount was never mentioned in the article, why?

Well after December the divorce will be final, he will have received all the silver and gold he can out of us, all the while looking for a new place to land.

I guess after December we will finally be done with Dr. Hanlon. It does seem like an expensive way to end the relationship. "Remember It's For The Kids"  Dr. Hanlons kids.

In my frustration this morning I forgot to give someone some free advice:

Please don't think without the support of a long time council members who is now seeking retirement and his decision to support another candidate is misfortune for you.. Look upon this as a plus and  a strength. This person's endorsement is not as 'golden' as in the past. I believe association with him hinders not helps a candidate. How much has this person cost Painesville in their tenure?
No one in Painesville is looking for another lap dog, trust me.

Odd, how the Newsless-Herald overlooked the amount he will be making in Painesville?
We must hold the board and the new assistant to the contract. Now if they fail to that's a reason for a class action lawsuit. Still think highly of your buddy? Seems it's about what?

First it should be the publics right to know what this salary amount came from. Is it Dr. Hanlon's severance pay (unused sick time and vacation time) or is it a buy out? In all my years of teaching, I have never known a school system to do this where they rehire an administrator especially at this price. I did see a local school system anger their public enough with poor use of money that they have not been able to pass a levy for many years. I hope the public is smart enough to know that it wasn't Dr. Hanlon that passed levies and built buildings, it was Mr. Beeler. Dr. Hanlon has run on the "coat tail" of a person-Mr. Beeler- that had the knowledge and respect of the PCLS community. As for liking of "his friend", I think we all go a snow job! Very, very sad but that is how all politicians work. They are full of promises that they can't deliver!

6:27 I believe this 'Deal' was never to be found out by the citizens? Yes I agree Dr. Hanlon took all the credit from Mr. Beilers work, didn't even get mentioned or credit. Remember the stone Hanlon purchased from India? What a waste.

My final thought will we hold Dr. Hanlon as well as the BOE to this contract? Will we see time sheets of time he puts in at Jefferson St. or for this $111,000 will he be able to work from home? Home? I see the good doctor is moving his family to Chardon.

This stinks, stinks, stinks. Why if you retire are you entitled to severance pay? I get the unused sick days, its usually a percentage of what you have. So how many days does he have and just how many is he getting paid for. Like to see the break down between the two. The whole thing smells rotten.

9:46 See you seem to be getting upset? Well those two levies we passed we now know where $111,000 went.
Hold their feet to the fire.

My brother stopped by this weekend on short notice, skipped the ice cream cone in Chardon. Wonder if I was missed?

Both Chardon and Painesville Board of Education Meetings are on the same day this month. Where to go?

Who voted YES? You arent saying I did are you? Thats confidential.

7:01 I don't know if you did or didn't? My point is that many good people with the best of intentions voted for those levies.... Believing that this will help us educate Painesville students. I believe not 1 of those yes voters ever believed we would pay someone who left us, we didn't leave him a compensation package Dr. Hanlon received? The article in the paper stated that Chardon knew in March they had the person they wanted, all along that we were told he was retiring?
Severance pay to someone who chose to take another job? Go figure

AMP bribe games go on .. this time in Hudson Ohio ...

It's scholarship time ... which Prairie State sucker community official's kid gets an AMP scholarship .. how about the 14 year city finance director of Hudson that talked their community into buying the exact same amount of power that Painesville and Galion did.

After listening and watching the present Painesville School Boards actions it will be a cold day in hell before I vote for another school levy. I do not trust any of the board members with a dime of what the tax payers have so graciously given this school system. Not on my best day did I think any money would go to award a superintendent who repeatedly showed incompetence. They have shown, those who are paying attention, lies and deceit. Mr Costell has been a huge disappointment as have the others who sit at the head of the table. What is even more shocking, I really believe they think they did the best for this school system.

Blame the Latino population. They are the majority of kids within the schools. The worst part is most of them do not care about their education, they want to work in the nursery business then winter back "home" in Mexico just like their parents and grandparents. I sure hope the landlords are passing the rate hikes on to all these tennants voting yes, cause I will vote NO until this town is clean of the illegals.

11:00 Hard to believe that the scholarships are only open to employee's of AMP-Ohio cities?
Wonder why that is? Customers need not apply. Wonder if anyone in Painesville ever got one of these?
1:12 Lets hope we all learned a lesson. I agree they are sitting around slapping each other on the back and believing Painesville resident are to dumb for us to explain it to them. Hardly shocking!
3:54 Yes let's blame them. There the ones cutting the checks to Dr. Hanlon. Not those five people on the school board.

3:54, as a teacher who works in the schools, I would not say that they majority of them certainly dont care. On the contrary, most do care, along with their parents, who want something better than what they had. I would also say I had more Hispanic parents come to conferences than any other subgroup. Most students are citizens, not that it matters...I would prefer us to look for solutions and positives rather than placing blame. Placing blame may make people feel better, but it does not resolve that underlying problem throughout the community that it is not "cool" to be smart, or do well in school. We have lots of great students and parents in PCLS, lets work to improve things that we can change....I am not allowed to question the status of my students, nor do I care. I try to each anyone who comes in as best as I can. I hope the new regime brings a fresher perspective to the whole situation....

3:54, as a parent and resident, WOW! Do I take offense to your preconceived notions of the Hispanic community! And I'm white and a child of eastern European immigrants. Even if your perception of these kids wanting to work in the nursery industry is correct, again, this should be kicked back to the administration to teach English and Latin as all plants are classified in Latin. Also needed would be a strong background in Science, Ecology, propagation, math and many more adapted curriculum lesson plans.

7:57 I can't even figure out how this group got blamed?

What it boils down to, The Five on the BOE did. Because it wasn't their money they were throwing around.

I cannot believe the blind-eye this city and country has. ILLEGAL is just that. You broke the law. Someone that robs a bank gets caught and goes to jail. What is the difference? I see no difference. They should be treated the same but the bleeding heart liberals don't agree. If you want to live here Do It the Right Way. Stop sneeking into America. Again you are breaking the law and the authorities are looking the other way.

Term, more of that good birdseed...

The teachers union tentatively approved a 2 year contract that gives a 1% raise this year, a .5% at the beginning of next year, and .5% raise at the semester next year. Steps have also returned. The rub for the teachers is that the STRS portion that the teachers pay is going up 1%, and health care premiums rose as well, so it is basically no raise besides the steps (which I am ok with in this economy). I hope the community supports our teachers. I am amazed these days at how people ridicule and disparage this profession nowadays. With the state implementing pay tied to student achievement, it will be interesting...just some food for thought...
