SYNCHRONICITY" police

"Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance."

Is it just me or are pretty much all the traffic lights in Painesville out of synch?

A few examples, why does the traffic light at Cedarbrook and Chestnut St. go green without a car on Cedarbrook or Brentwood tripping the signal?
Why does the traffic light at Chestnut and Mentor Ave. take so long to turn?
Why does it seem the signal at Walnut and Mentor Ave. seem to change everytime a bird flies by?
Don't even try to get through the abyss of Mentor Ave. and Richmond St.?
Speaking of Richmond St., why does the northbound left turn arrow automatically come on without a vehicle in that lane, and at the same time the southbound left turn arrow never comes on?
Would it make sense if more traffic lights flashed yellow/red between 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M.?

These are a few examples how hard it is to transverse Painesville. I am sure many of you see more.
Who's in charge of the traffic lights around here?

To all drivers that have to go to the YMCA during rush hour, your always in my prayers.

For a city with this much traffic it seems odd that more businesses aren't located here.

Know this isn't the place to bring this up. In yesterdays News-Herald there was a story about the YMCA teaming up with Painesville schools. In the video guess who was commending the program? State Senator John Eklund? After all the abuse you and councilman Flock received for having him at a town hall meeting the guy shows up at a school not in his district? Maybe his defender would like to explain?

5:32 You have sharp eyes. Yes there was John Eklund and State Rep. John Rodgers? (in N/H video.
Maybe Andy told him to attend?
The person that was so petty about him coming to a town hall meeting, wonder who's fault this is? I have to question has he any idea where his district is? John a great guy but this Blog. had nothing to do with any of this.

I first noticed this after all the traffic signals were replaced a few years back.

In the years since, I still can not figure out any sort of sequencing order. I notice it mostly at Rt 2 and Richmond St followed by Chester St. If you can figure it out, please let me know. Sometimes a turn arrow, sometimes not (with or without traffic).

Following that is Main St and State St. Sometimes the southbound side goes first, sometimes the northbound side, sometimes there is a turn arrow, sometimes not. Never seems to be the same two times in a row.

State St and Walnut St? Rarely do I ever get through it with a green light but sometimes the wait is 30 seconds but I have waited more than three minutes. Amazing!

As far as Rt 20 to the west, it is just awful. I avoid it when I can and I would NEVER use it at rush hour. To get it paved we lost a lane and it left us with a turning lane that is only used at Chestnut St or the YMCA. Really a bright idea. I realize that the road doesn't meet the current definition for a four lane road BUT why not get it paved and marked as three lanes then re-stripe it with four lanes after the paving is done? Sneaky but effective!

BTW, you can tell the City Planner doesn't use it. He thinks this was a great idea!

4:28 I guess the same person takes care of traffic lights, that takes care of conditional use permits?
The City Planner is a smart guy, he chooses to not live in the city he's planning.

The marking and use of US 20 is under the state of Ohio. They did that not the city. The new traffic lights were set up with a computer. But that does not mean it is working.like it did when new.

11:51 I guess than the money molding in our electric fund couldn't have been used to move the electric poles letting the state make it a true four lane highway?
Someone explain what that monet is for?

At August 1, 2013 at 6:29 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term when that happen the state was going to pay the cost of moving everything including the poles trees sidewalks and pay for new right of way. It cost cost to much money so it was not done

6:29 I was told the city didn't want to pay their share of the project?
Again Painesville will put up with the results.

I know that Rt 20 administered by ODOT and I said so. Read a little closer and you will see it.
The traffic lights NEVER were in sync after they were installed. If you think they were, you weren't paying attention.

6:29
The cost of moving any and all utilities is the responsibility of the utility involved. IOW, the power/phone company movespoles and conuit, the gas company moves gas lines and so on. That is the price they pay for access to the public right of way. The problem in this case is that Painesville owns most, if not all, the poles in the City. Therefore, the cost would be on the City.
Keep in mind that while it would have been expensive then, it will only get more costly in the years to come.

6 lanes would been better..go big or go home! and tear down the homes along Mentor Avenue to allow for shopping centers to built.. come on Painesville wake up. And let's get this city going!

I believe the money that the electric plant is only for that. It can not be used for the general fund or anything else. Check the facts and thats why the money is "molding" as you say.

My question is:
Is it necessary to have the rescue people blaring their siren 3:00 AM in the morning, on route 44 going to the hospital? Is there that much traffic that warrants the extreme noise. Wouldn't the red light flashing be enough?

Maybe you should call the city that has the blaring siren. See what their protocal or operation procedure is. Why ask here? Who here can provide a correct answer? Go straight to the horses mouth for the truth, only stirring up trouble by launching a question like that. BTW why and where were you doing and going at that time of night?

Per Ohio Law if the lights are on sirens are on

Post 9:29 Are you sure about the law????? I have seen other cities, after midnight, no sirens, for the respect of other residents. post 7:04 The questions are asked, on this blog, for transparenty. (so others, can enjoy the conversations.

Widen the road move Riders Inn back 20 feet along with the brick wall all sidewalks back into our front yards all trees removed. (well my taxes would go down)Perkins can have a Drive up window, less grass to cut. WHAT A GREAT IDEA makes Main Street the best idea since sliced bread.

At August 5, 2013 at 5:22 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

4:20 Really 20 feet? To make it a true four-lane road?
What we presently have is worthless.

At August 7, 2013 at 8:00 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To add a proper fourth lane might require 10' at most. I say this because the three lanes we presently have are more than are required. That would mean 5' on either side. I would be fairly certain that the road R/W is more than adequate.
I can absolutely guarantee that if 5' were added on both sides (and you didn't see the work as it was being done) you would NEVER see the difference but we would have four useable lanes.
When you try to make a point by being sensational you lose all credibility.
