WARD 2 TOWNHALL MEETING

Took in Hal Werner's town hall meeting at the new Hobart Middle School tonite. After guest speaker Andy Thompson answered questions from the people in attendance we toured the new building. Tony Torre and I noticed it was a beautiful and functional school. Something was missing? We found only two small American flags in the building, a very sad oversite. Who do they say the pledge? What do you think?

When I went to school there was a flag in every classroom, gym, and even the office. You have to wonder if you put these flags up if anyone would respect them?

Since the new Hobart is now Heritage Middle School...There should be an American flag in every classroom BUT there should also be a Heritage Room at the school where there is a small flag from Every country in the world. Then everyone's heritage will be covered, it will also be a learning tool for the students to broaden their cultural base.

How can anyone build all these new buildings and foget to put flags up? Maybe it wasn't an oversite?

There are flags, Term and his old buddy, are just looking for some more drama.

Have not commented for a while but this strikes a cord. The basis for this country is the flag. No matter the circumstances or heritage this country is the USA. Everyone here has come from other origins and that is what makes us great. But there is one commonality, we live in the USA! That means that we are all on the same team, so fly the team colors. I do not expect that my nationality flag is placed in the class room so that I am not offended. I agree with the placement of the flag in all of the rooms. Maybe it should be looked at like a badge of honor that protects you from the over handed type of government that you escape from. Being proud of who you are is important but being proud of WHERE you are seems to be my main idea here. I love this country and have lived abroad to have a true appreciation of what we have here. No other country like it. JT

Where is it a law the classrooms have to have flags? Anywhere in the building?

I have to ask term, whats your point? why bring it up? Is this your way of getting even over you not getting your way over the names? Why all the concern????

He is a DRAMA oueen.

At October 16, 2008 at 6:21 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Then I am a drama queen also because I think it is an outrage that there is not a flag in every classroom!

At October 16, 2008 at 7:32 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Whats my point? Why bring it up? What does it have to do with the names? First when you spend almost 100 milliom dollars on schools you would like to think that someone would have had the foresite to buy the flags for the buildings. The school board President mentioned that the system had 33% Caucasian 33% African-American and 33% Hispanic. Its important that these three groups as JT. mentioned are on the same team. Lets just hope it was done as to not offend anyone.
It was brought up because this is the second meeting Mr. Werner has had in this building in two different locations and Hal likes to start his meeting with the "Pledge of Allegiance" pretty hard to do without a flag.
As far as the naming of the buildings I think the board blew it. The next time the schools ask for something I believe they will be surprised with some of the communities reaction. I looked at the schools trophy case and there all "Hobart" in 25 years some 8th grader is going to ask what was Hobart and why did we change it?

At the Grade Schools the flags are very small and each room has one, I hear they have them at the middle school too, flags do not need to be large, a flag is a flag.

It sounds like this Term guy, just likes to fire people up, just for fun.

Term and his little group of worshippers know how to complain a lot, and they feel like they are "doing" some kind of service that this city needs.

You want big flags?, how about you and your little group actually put some sweat in it and go out and raise the money and make a gift of them to the schools.
Maybe you can get Hal "we the people" Warner to help, he hasn't actually got anything done except investigate since he got in office.

Maybe you guys can put all the flags in that annoying, noisy monkey grinder car and arrive at a board meeting and present them.

You guys are so out in left field with your "investigating" and "complaining" and "Policing Rita" routine that you don't even have a clue how many hard working citizen volunteers are out there every day helping in every little corner of this city, churches, schools, recreation, etc.

People are using life savings to start businesses here, buy homes here, and no one wants to hear the constant whining from people who don't get things their way.

Term and his little bunch are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem.

Batman, Your schools are rated near the bottom in academics.
Your city is ranked 75th out of all communitys in greater Cleveland. You call it whining for a school mot having flags in the classrooms?
Your city leadership can only spend money likes its going out of style, than can't find anyone to buy up their debt. Don't want to police Rita whant her gone! and the people that put her there.
Only one year left.

I was at the town meeting also--I was very disappointed that not one American Flag wasn't in each room.

What if we walked into this new building and it had no windows..Was this an over SIGHT of the builders of School Board!! The same applies with being Loyal to OUR COUNTRY. Seems like anyone can pass the buck. WHY

The buliding is beatiful Why not have two floors--insted of being spread in different directions. Are our children going to learn better or see the beauty in the building. I went to school to learn. Who designed this monster..The government?? School Board ?? Dictators??

Its TIME WE CITIZENS OF PAINESVILLE START WAKING UP TO THE CRAP BEING PASSED ON TO US BY A CERTAIN FEW--GET BCK TO THE BASICS.

My approach to the flag issue here would be that I would try and allow people to embrace it as a symbol of pride. If you move to another state, some people loose their loyalty to a sports team that they rooted for and then take up for the LOCAL team. I did not grow up in Painesville, but, when Harvey looses I feel bad for them and root for them at the games. I took up residence here and therefore integrated myself into the community. I am practicing what I preach. I shop local and support the locals as much as possible. Hell, if there was a big grocery chain here I would never leave.

My point to those that oppose the flag issue, is that no one is trying to force upon you what you do not wish. They, we, want you to join us in our love of this country and be part of our gigantic local team. Root for the home team is all we are asking. Don't look at the flag as a symbol of what you hate, but a ray of hope that makes you feel like you are home.

I will never forget coming back from living abroad and coming into JFK airport. That was cool and all, but when I saw the flag, I knew I was home. JT

You are not respecting what this country stands for.

What this country stand for huh? Right now I'm not sure I respect what this country stands for. Our image has taken a down turn. I believe in our core values and freedoms but we need to restore our status with the world. Bush has ruined it. Vote in this election to restore it so that flag continues to mean everything to us but also so that it respresents all of the positive things this country represents to the rest of the world.

Batman can respond how he wants but my response is - So?
How is a flag going to help that? You cling to issues like the display of the flag and let it distract you from real issues. This is how bush stole the elections he won, by getting voters upset about things that don't really matter all that much to the welfare of our country.

you are really comparing a flag to the structural defect of no windows? That is a bit absurd.

You liberals always turn every issue into a Bush failure. Stop whining about how he stole the election. Finally the silent majority was heard. These issues matter to us. You sound like Obama when he said we cling to our guns and religion. Why don't you just go and cling to your entitlements.

SLAP IN THE FACE

I think the city of Painesville just got a slap in the face from Lake Erie College.
They are opening a Daves Cosmic Sub Shop on the campus.
After we bend over to help them, they do this to us, I bet Subway is not happy, what if they put in a store or bar then no one would have to leave the campus.

You have to wonder if the city ever got their money from Liberty Greens, and the school board for the signals that were put up with our $250,000? Someone should ask.

The flag is a symbol of the greatness of this country, The freedoms it stands for. If we don't teach our children these basics in a few generations all will be lost. I really believe being an American is a gift from God.How many other Countrys would help rebuild Countrys that tried to destroy it. A Country that went to war with itself over slavery to correct a wrong, America's not perfect but its the best this worldsgot. School Board buy and put up the Flags. I personally don't care who it might upset.

SLAP IN THE FACE

Just maybe they got a reasonable cost on the rent for their business, God knows finding a place to rent in downtown is nuts. The coffeehouse next to Subway was paying over $3000.00 a month in rent, thats alot of coffee. Oh, this is not the City's fault but the property owners who think they are in Beachwood. Rental costs are probably the main reason for the empty storefronts.

What doesnt he have a clue about? Most of the questions he asks make sense to me. There has to be an overhaul of the people running the show in town. I was at that meeting Wednesday ,and it was even brought to his attention about the flags. Ask Mr. Thompson if there are flags in the classrooms.

At October 19, 2008 at 4:39 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The problem with turning over the people who run the show is that no one truly qualified will run because they have to put up with the constant whining from idiots like Term and Karen and it isn't worth it for the money.

Did anybody on this list watch the Olympics? How are athletes identified? By the flag of their country.
It would be a great lesson to see how many flags any of our kids could identify as the teams walked into the stadium. Would they look at the color of their skin or their eyes to answer.

If you want to know how important the flag is I suggest you buy a ticket to another country and it doesn't need to be a third world country! The flag means home, it means you have a place that is safe to return too. I bet everybody on this list has a relative that has fought in a war abroad....... go talk to them.

There is no travel program in our school system. No chance for our kids to go out and explore true world issues. This country is supposed to be a "world" power and most kids don't even know where Canada is! (I can hear some of you saying; but they know where Mexico is, N. St. Clair)

This is a small issue that masks the bigger problem of education in the Painesville City Schools!

Buy a ticket and get a clue!

It apears I made a mistake, we all do at times.
This flag issue is some thing to think of! Do we hang a Spanish flag and a African with a American
flag in our schools? As there is a division of 33% in each group in the community. Are they Americans
I hope so.
We are Americans and proud of it, also we give our allegiance to the flag and country. Do the students give there pledge of allegiance to our flag? If so where do they do it and to what? I do it in English in respect to the flag and country that gives me my freedom.
The size should be seen by all and take presidance in any room or area. How about doing your thing school board and correct the error that has been made.
Mr T

Going negative here folks so hold your hats. "piece of cloth" person, show your face. I bet your gut level reaction is that was funny but you forget that the people here hold true to that flag and if you have the guts to make every blue blooded American dislike your comments you must be one brave soul. My guess, held up at home in your parents house with nothing better to do but blog. Good people don't make those kind of comments but I am a good person so I won't write in words what I really think about your comments. to be honest, I feel sorry for you. For, without a country or a team to support you have nothing in this world. Because as long as you are in America remember that no matter your beliefs the USA will always protect you. So congratulations, you just slapped the lifeguard in the face after she saved your life, that's a figure of speech, I am guessing that you would not have figured that out unless I told you. JT
