LEGAL NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given of a Public Hearing to be held by the City of Painesville  Planning Commission on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Courtroom No. 1 Painesville City Hall, and 7 Richmond Street to hear the following request:

REFUSAL NO. 2295 * CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT REQUEST
Applicant: Veronica Dalberg on behalf of HOLA Ohio LLC
Owner: Lake County Land Reutilization Corporation
Location: 265 N. State St. (Parcel Number 15-A-013-0-00-0-011-0)
District: General Business District
Section: 1143.06 (a)
The City of Painesville has received an application from Ms. Veronica Dahlberg on behalf of HOLA Ohio LLC for a conditional Use Permit. The applicant is proposing to utilize the structure at 265 N. State St. as a commercial kitchen economic incubator (food preparation; for sale, catering, training) retail, office, community center. Section 1143.06 (a) requires a conditional use for uses that are not specifically listed in the zoning code as a permitted use. A similar use determination is being requested by the Planning Commission and if granted, then a conditional use permit for the similar use.

I know it's legal but how can a non-profit be an LLC? Or Why?

My problem with this?

Well a few years ago Ms. Dalberg held a rally at Veterans Park and  brought in a speaker from God knows where from the southwest of this country. He made the statement "Our people are indigenous to this area, and we are here to take it back" All to the applause of Veronica and attendees. Look I'm indigenous to this area I'm a native what was she proposing? Fine take it back but don't ask us to donate it!
Also she later had a walking parade though town without a permit I might add . Someone could have been hurt the police had no warning.  One person exited his car to yell at children who accidently or on purpose were dragging the American flag.  She in my eyes is one of the most self-serving people I know. Yes she has burned many bridges but she continually finds new ones.

This whole idea smells. Besides the deed to the building will be included in this transaction? New roof? Grant's for equipment?
Economic incubator? Catering who's doing that? Retail? Never mind there is limited parking.

The quasi-government Land Bank must get back to it's original purpose and quit playing Santa Claus with OPM!

Does the Planning Commission ever changed conditional use? I am sure they have. Once they didn't over a Veteran's Group Home..... Myself I expect this to slid through unopposed. VD needs coins in her pocket too!

Attended the second "Begin the Conversation" at Harvey last night the purpose was to explain what and how cases wind their way through the courts. Very informative. What I got the most out of the 'conversation'?  Judge John O'Donnell mentioned that this is how we do this it in Lake County. I can't speak for other counties or area's. Also County Prosecutor Coulson mentioned the starting pay for an assistant prosecutor was $26,000?  Diversity training for police officers. Many people asked really good questions.
Never meet the Willoughby Judge but it appears the Painesville and Mentor Courts have excellent judges to serve 'the people's court'
Everyone involved in this forum should be applauded. Showing us it is better to be proactive than reactive.

Aside from the zoning use issue, just exactly why is the Land Bank (in its governmental wisdom) giving away a building, for free, to anyone at all much less people who don't even take the time to learn the language where they live??

Once again, other peoples money and only in the 'Ville. Bet you wouldn't see this in Madison or Mentor. Why is it always us who wind up with everyone needing help in our City. Time to spread the wealth!

12:16 VD is very smart lady. Get the building for free (with a new roof) Go get a grant from the Department of Agriculture (commercial kitchen) another one from whoever for new heating and air conditioning.
Now please explain a business incubator? Covers a lot. Now the moneymaker. Catering. Ever hear of a non-profit catering company? Look we will let people come in and try new idea's with taco's but the real money is in the catering. Not to mention being unfair to people already in the catering business. So the money made on catering covers the expenses of HOLA's office and other pet projects. Great idea but the people of Painesville, Lake County, State of Ohio and the Federal Government should not have a hand or dollar in this venture.
In the end who receives the most? VD

Since the government is so gosh darn helpful to give illegals a hand up, maybe they can come up with something for the senior citizens? Golly, can't Bank One become part of the land bank and give it to the seniors? The Y is a joke plus with the rumors they are heading to Mentor where its better. SOmeone should be able to help this community keep its center. This seems logical to me. PS Fairport has a beautiful center.

VD applied for these grants using a Painesville church as her address. She has no connection or office in said church. Lake County Land Bank giving property to A group from Ashtabula County.

Does this sound legal and proper use of taxpayer money??????
Grant application legal?????
Are all citizens welcome???
Citizen from Painesville should be made aware of this NOW.

This is a key issue in the city of Paine. This is where the magic is happening. All the 'old tyme' folks (God Bless 'em) that chime in on this blog wishing about the olden days in Paine and wishin' for a revival of Main St and 'Leave it to Beaver' well.. here you go.
A non profit by its definition is not structured for profit. (not an accountant) but when a non profit wants to advance its mission typically it can partner with a for profit company. The both are separate legal entities defined in their own tax structure. (but... i wonder how the ownership is managed.. I believe a nonprofit has a 'board' and that group 'steers' the 'mission' and directs 'funds' for the non profit.. ) Now I suppose .. one could be a member of the board of the non profit and also have a for profit company or related to someone that has a for profit company and then you got the secret sauce... This is the new game, this is where the beast of the Federal Gov puts its foot print upon us.. the interface between what we paid out by our labor and how it is returned to our community. It really is robbing peter to pay paul. This i am afraid is the policy promoted by the Democrat party. They love this stuff, lather all in and soak for years. Policy they call it. Policy wonks get off on this stuff and there is an entire industry in place that figures out how to get your money (that you labored for) from here to some place over there.

The problem that I have and I think many of the readers of this blog have.. is where is the accountability in all of these transactions?

I am reminded of a song by Starship from the 1980's song (We built this city) ... "Who count the money... underneath bar.. who drives the recking ball... into our guitars.. don't tell us you need us... cause we're a ship of fools... looking for america... running through your schools..."

Starve the Beast.

Everyone should check out 'Money Masters' by Bill Still on the internet.

ONly way to stop this is to raise awareness (this blog) and bother politicians (they control the flow and direction of our funds)

I believe the new social justice warrior will be those that can un mask this money flow game and get the funding back to places that would connect with the social contract (the olde tyme days) ... start business..infrastructure..invest capital that drive job creation.

6:41the plot thickens! Myself I believe this is a done deal but could become political quicksand for some elected officials. None of this surprises us does it?
7:31 Yes it appears like government has gone from bridges and roads to opening catering businesses? Will the workers even receive pay?

VD = Veronica Dahlberg nothing more nothing less.

As a taxpayer, one has to wonder what could be so important that it requires a Sunday "Executive session"??
I really can not imagine anything that important.

11:56 Well, let's take a stab at this? Maybe at Monday's council meeting they want to announce their choice for new city manager? I was told I'm not going to be crazy about who they are looking at. Hope they all attend church before the meeting.
They sure like meeting in secret a lot?

Here is the real slap in the face from the land bank. PCIC, a non-profit, donates a LOT of money to this community was asked a few years ago if they had an interest, but would have had to buy it!

PCIC turned it down because of the cost and lack of parking.

7:31 your comment 'old time folks' reminded me of a most unpleasant conversation I had with lawyer Issou's wife Vanessa. I do not remember what connection she had to Painesville. Some type of consulting maybe to revitalize here. In our conversation I mentioned the good old days when we had grocery stores, department stores, bakeries, banks, car dealers. I was basically told I'm old and still live in the past, I need to move past the old days thinking and move on. I was so angry with her and not wanting to cause a scene I told her politely I strongly disagree with her and this town needs help but no one can bring it back. Anyone know if she is still involved in consulting?

I had a dream about our old nightmare of a city manager, Rita McMahon. It had better not be her. If it is, we need to get rid of everyone and get a mayor. But who in the world would THAT be? On the other hand, it would at least be someone the people could hire and fire.

At October 4, 2016 at 5:09 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

12:03 Your correct that isn't a dream that's a nightmare.

And it wouldn't cost you $171,000!

9:41 Well in one way I kind of agree with her. Some of us who have been around here for ever we believe spend to much time on the "remember when"?
Unfortunately many who were born later into the 70's and 80's as well as 'newbies' who were not here then. They missed the golden years and don't know what was. In a way it's a shame and in another way t's a blessing.
The point of this site was never to 'Make Painesville Great Again' it's always was and still is great. My problem seemed that certain people were taking it down the wrong path? I know there are people that still care and some around here that could careless.
