"SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER" alice cooper

Well at least until August 18th.

A couple of posts ago someone complained about the condition of our schools landscaping. I apologize here for blowing them off.  Someone who I respect called and told me to go look around, with the statement "why wear a $1000 suit with worn shoes with holes in them. Making the assertion that Painesville has invested ( along with the State of Ohio) 100 million dollars in new schools and presently they don't look as sharp and well manicured as they should be.

I realize the administration has outsourced the grounds keeping but was it for landscaping or just lawn mowing? What ever the grounds around the schools should be attend to before school starts.
I now understand what the comment was meant to relay to me, again I apologize.

On another school matter I understand the  vice-principal at Heritage has resigned  to take a job in his home town.
I know Ms. DeAngelis loves here students but some seem to be pushing the envelope. First the school needs a Vice-Principal the will expect proper behavior from these 6-7-8 graders. This along with an SRO officer at the school. Many parents as well as students claim they are in fear of violence with certain students. Plus the fact the school is isolated from the rest of the city due to the railroad tracks. I don't know if this is fact, but as I watch the behavior of some of the students on the way home from school, the fights that might end up in a neighbor's yard, no regard for traffic, A 120 pound body doesn't sand-up well against a 4000 pound vehicle, everything from not looking to defying the vehicle to just being pushed out in the street?  But then they haven't taken physics yet. This plus the profanity loudly displayed makes me wonder? (Remember when you were a kid and how embarrassed you were when an adult heard you use profanity ?) Not anymore.

Interesting list of what students are expected to be supplied with for the coming year.
Along with all students being academic dressed. (I think a good idea)

Third Grade Elm Elementary

Book Bag
1 Supply Box
1 Scissors
6 White Glue Sticks
4 pkg #2 Pencils (Ticonderoga)      A certain brand of pencil?
1 pkg Cap Erasers (for pencils)
1 bx  24 count Crayons
1 pkg Markers ( not permanent marker
1 pkg Colored Pencils
2 Highlighters
1 pkg Dry Erase Markers (4pk assorted colors)
4 Notebooks ( blue, red, yellow, green,)
1 Composition Notebook
5 2 Pocket Folders (blue, red, yellow, green, orange,)
3 pkg Filler Paper (wide rule)
1 bx of Ziploc Bags (sandwich and gallon size)
3 bxs Kleenex
1 pk 3x5 Index Cards
1 pk 4x6 Index Cards

What percentage of students will have this on the first day school?

The reason I am passing this information on as this year  there will be NO  "Unity In The Community"  picnic where many students received much of their school supplies.

I do understand the Salvation Army is putting something together. If you know please post it on the blog.

12:55 I thought we had a crisis at the border? Who's going home? Is Boehner or Cruz the Speaker of the House?

You sue the President over Executive Orders... Then you make the statement the President can act on this crisis?

How many days have you scheduled between now and November? Why.

Look the President can't keep troops in Iraq after 90 days, Will you complain when he brings them home or when he keeps them keeps them there?

The People's House or the 1% House? GOP leadership zero!

At August 1, 2014 at 10:17 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term have you heard of inversion? That's where an American company gets tax credits for moving factories or even corporate headquarters overseas to avoid U.S. taxes. Democrats want to end the policy but Republican senators blocked the bill that included tax credits for businesses bring jobs back to the U.S. are the republicans just plain stupid?

At August 1, 2014 at 10:59 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

10:17 Yes that's one reason it's no longer the Peoples House but the 1% House.
Where are these jobs the GOP promised?

Nothing on the border crisis
Nothing on Iraq
Nothing on minimum wages
Nothing on the Ukraine
Nothing on infrastructure
But
We sued the President on a case that won't be heard until after he's out of office.

Another fact the President isn't on the ballot this year, so unless you have the votes to override a veto good luck.
Instead of doing the peoples work in the peoples house lets impeach the guy! That we can do, because Ted told us.
Just to get your history right Bush delayed the part D Medicare act, why didn't you sue him?

I am familiar with the landscapers that have the contract for the schools. The school board only pays them to do the landscaping & mulching once a year. They do the high school in late may so it looks good for graduation. They do the remaining schools in August. The woman seen at heritage was part of the crew and doing her job. I have worked with the crew in the past. They are right on schedule.

How many handouts do these kids need? Seriously? Don't get me wrong I believe in HELPing out our fellow neighbors, friends, etc. but come on, this is so overboard and abused it is wrong.
Our government gives assistance to the poor and they still have all the hand outs they can take.
No money for a pencil or paper but check out the kicks. See what kind of smart phone they carry and data plan too. What kind of electronics, mp3, IPod, IPad, Kindle, tablet. And don't get me started on the gaming systems they have. Sorry, not the only entertainment that can be afforded - YMCA for free or reduced fee, be healthy. I think all these hand outs need to stop and parents, guardians need to take responsibility for their kids. I did my time and no longer can or want to pay for the rest of the town.

Have to agree with 514. Way to many give aways. People used to need it now they expect it. Haircut, supply, clothing. Parents dont have to be responsible for anyone or thing anymore thanks to this type of deal. On a larger scale our government is doing the same thing, people should work for what they get. Way to many demanding their entitlements.

At August 4, 2014 at 1:31 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

6:16/ 5:14 I can't agree more. The problem are not the children but the parents or them just not having the resources.
Again some just can't supply everything a child needs to go to school. And kid's can be down right mean. Back in the early 90's my daughter had a function in elementary school. After the program I watched a group of 3 to 5 boys laughing. I asked what was so funny? One mentioned "look at boy's name worn out shoes". I asked them if they had purchased their shoes? No Mom and Dad did. So what makes you so high and mighty then you bought nothing? I purchased a pair of shoes that night for the boy and brought them to the office the next day. Why children enjoy humiliating each other is a mystery to me, but it's part of life. ( yes we did it when we were young also. I have bad dreams about how we tormented a girl by calling her witch. Me included)
Sometime I will tell you the cost of "McDonalds Day" when I agreed to purchase McDonalds for the student's who's parents didn't pay the cost.
Again remember you do not live in a affluent city.

I as a parent am concerned for the state of our schools. We along with the state have invested 100 million dollars in the new facilities and yet we are receiving the same results as with the old facilities. It is also a shame that Heritage is now going to have a full time SRO. The resignation of the assistant principal was the start of a move in the right direction. He constantly undermined the teachers as if the students were victims and this made it difficult to manage behaviors as an educator. This coming from a teacher who has since left Heritage along with many others due to the behavior of the students and lack of administrative support. The district also needs to employ more teachers that represent the student population. I think as a parent and citizen, that we should invest in teachers willing to invest in our kids. We are hiring too many young inexperienced teachers who do not possess the tools to be effective. We need teachers who look at it as more than just a job. They are out there. I just hope that this new administration is more than just happy to be here and willing to work to propel our schools in the right direction and not use us as a line on their resumes to leave. Let's get some teachers and administrators who are willing to invest themselves in our district and not just receive a paycheck.

Glad to see Wilson Landscaping is going. If Dick Beeler saw the sorry state of the schools today he would role over in his grave! I happen to know that a local church offered to every local school the time, energy, supplies, and money to do a project. The school just needed to respond and decide what needed to be done. This local church also wanted to adopt a school providing the children with needed supplies. Guess who took up the offer- Madison Ave. The new landscaping is being done by the members and they have adopted the school for the year. Were we crazy that NONE of the PCLS would accept this help? YES we were! And our schools look bad. Dick would take total pride in getting everything ready for the year. Although I see many new and great things happening, this area needs a big change! Since the schools are behind the "8" ball why not get the sports teams to challenge each other to a clean-up project. Every school could have a team with lunch being served by the schools!

Thank you 11:46, you seem to get what Hand Out said. Everyone wants it ALL for nothing. Not willing to pay it back, nor even a thank you. We coddle these kids way too much and we don't MAKE them and their parents responsible for themselves. Everyone has a case of the gimmies while they have the latest phones and electronic toys, yet cant afford a trip to the dollar store for pencils and paper? Sorry I can't be so sympathetic it is just out of hand.

There is a classified person working for PCLS. Who should not be working for the schools! And the new people know it and so does the hole staff!! THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT! FACT! SHAME ON YOU

10:11 Could you send me more information?
6:36 One question how do you hold a second or third grader responsible? I do agree many parents have their priorities in the wrong place. Many children below 16 are at their mercy.
8:59 I you sure PCLS were provided with this offer?

You must not work for the school...Hole is would be like a doughnut hole, black hole, hole in the ground I twisted my foot in. Whole meaning entire. And if you chose to make these accusations to the public you I hope you are able to back them up. As for Term, why do you post this BS - just to stir the stuff? Like the electrician you spoke of a while ago? Back to 10:11, I'm sure there are many employees you may feel shouldn't be in certain places of employment, why poke at the school?

11:08 Now you want me to be Painesville's censor? What some believe I already have a 'hole' in my head.
The schools are subjected as any government institution because they are owned and financed by the people.
Everything from the VA to your local BOE.
All I asked 10:11 for facts. Why shouldn't they be working for the schools? Your not even curious?

Not curious, this is not the place for calling out bad employees. Business has a chain of command to go to. Not the harsh accusations, name calling, mud slinging that goes on here. If you think someone has done something wrong on the job then go see the principal or superintendent. Airing dirt here does nothing but attract curiosity seekers and more accuasations.

I agree to a point, I have not seen anyone but Mr. Shepard or myself called out by name.
Again I won't censor.
Also isn't it far better to find out here and do something about it or wait until it's on the front page of the News-Herald as in the past? After the fact?
