"NOW THAT YOU'VE GONE" chicago

It was just announced that Ms. Rita McMahon has been named Person of the Year for 2014 by the Painesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Now I've always felt let bygones be bygones but this selection leaves me with a strange taste in my mouth. WWYT?

If you have been following this blog. for sometime, you realize many of the AMP-OHIO deal that she left the city with are downright "TOXIC".

Let's also remember she was compensated very well by council over here tenure in Painesville.

I have been told many stories about how she ran the city, Doesn't mean they were true. But where there's smoke there's fire. The physical fight at city hall between a former finance director and two other department heads. I know boys will be boys.

Many time in a council meeting she told council half truths and out and out lies. The Cobblestone Emergency response deal? We wouldn't have to pay for anything until we started to receive power? Anybody remember that 2 million plus check sent to AMP-OHIO last December? Where's the power?  Little half-truths such as a claim she made that CSX only ran 30 trains through Painesville. A fact she grabbed out of the air?

Look what are her pluses besides annexation, and flower pots?
What possibly could she have done about Lake East Hospital leaving. Yes she tried to save it after Lake Hospital already decided to leave? Wonder what the problem was, and when? Fasson moving offices out of the city along with demolishing an almost new building? The Old Hotel  Who might own it next? Zaremba building on the old hospital site? I can't wait for people to see what $1.4 million gets them on the Main Street streetscape?

I guess in the end I believe awards such as these should be given to volunteers and not people making over $120,000 at the city's expense, just doing their job. With the exception of a police or fire fighter going above and beyond? Maybe to a fire fighter  that was deployed in Afghanistan ?

Then again this will give council an opportunity to ask what were you thinking when you recommended those deals ?

Look since the new city manager has taken over I already see a more transparent city along with a desire to meet residents. Soon I see a new attitude on council What a change.

An explanation is needed here. What exactly did she do in Painesville to improve the quality of life? Smart lady but we have many of them. It isn't like she worked for free.
It's probably only a big deal to her. We have all seen the poor results.

Oh Term, that's how government these day. You are rewarded for failure and promoted or given accolades. Just about the same with the schools. Dave komati is nice guy but he really needs to get a grip on what the city is doing.

Wondered how long this would take to hit the blog.

If not Rita, who? Are there others in town who be better deserving of the award?

This was a decision made by the Chamber. Perhaps you should question them on why Rita?

Term, if you see the police chief you can tell him the reason the police levy failed was front and center in the city this weekend.
First if I remeber the city has an ordinance of no steet parking with two inches of snow. Ask him how many illegally parked cars were ticketed?
Forget the illegal people this city can't even spend the time to ticket illegal automobiles.
Yes I know that's a Barney Fife job but why not tell council to take it off the books. Your officers are to busy in parking lots talking on cellphones.

Painesville needs term limits for these people.

8 years - NO MORE

32 years - Preposterous

RITA - should have been awarded the Vilage idiot award ... time is still left for TERM to collect some funds via paypal to set one up ... a dirty abandoned toilet would be appropriate.

Term Limits.....

I have brought this up several times over the years and even to the table at the Charter Review meetings. And though I agree with term limits it is probably one of the most unfavorable suggestions that comes to the table. The belief by the majority on this topic is that voters will make the choice at the ballot. I have heard this over and over and still remain mystified after watching the political machine in this city.

I am extremely happy the Charter change was approved by the public for the signatures needed to put your name on the ballot. Only 25 in your ward and 50 signatures to run for a seat At Large.

Every other city I have ever lived in celebrated a volunteer as "Citizen of the Year". Someone who donates hours and energy for the good of the city and it's residents. I believe a letter is in order to Mr Komjati and the Chamber of Commerce. Knowing this award came from the Chamber really mystifies me as I watched too many business close doors and move out under the McMahon administration. Ms McMahon was paid well and has a good retirement package.

6:23 I'm not a big fan of term limits, but what I do notice is how conveniently council elections take place on an off year of an off year?
Never on 2008/2010/2012/2014/2016/ What that sets up in an election cycle that never includes federal or even state office holders.
2013/ next election for ward council 2015 at large 2017.
Seems this was done with what purpose in mind?
How many even vote in an off year?
Notice the street levy failed in 2012 yet passed in 2013?
Was that because of low voter turnout?

We as Painesville citizens have the right via petition to change the charter and include term limits.

We also have the right to change the elections to even years when voter turnout is usually higher.

If Galion can change their entire city structure and toss everyone off their thrones, why can't Painesville ?

You know I never gave any thought of when we voted for council members. It might explain why it has turned into a popularity contest? Mrs. Jenkins your stand on illegals has me voting for anyone besides you in two years. Yes I called you.

10:25: What is her stand on illegals, please?

7:54: I wasn't talking to you. I was asking 10:25, who already did call her. It would be good for everyone to know what her stand on illegals is, and it seems that 10:25 can tell us.

12:26 Who is 10:25?

10:25 She loves them here.

10:25 She hates them here.

The only way to truly find out is to ask her.

Don't want to put yourself out there, uh?

4:26: That's not it, you jerk. 10:25 has already talked to her. I wondered what it was she said. End of story. And I was hoping that 10:25 would share with everyone what she said. Your point is that I don't want to put myself out there? Give me a break. You have no idea who I am or what I do or do not do. AGAIN... my question was for 10:25, not you.

Along with not knowing who 10:25 is?
Why not cut to the chase and ask Katie yourself?

I don't typically get involved in the back and forth on here, but given that someone has presented inaccurate information (anonymous 10:25) I thought that perhaps I should chime in -

For the official record, I've received three phone calls expressing a negative view of the illegal discussion, and all three of those individuals lived outside of my ward. My response to those individuals was to hear what they had to say, and then explain that at this time this is a discussion. No official resolution is on the table for a vote, but I would anticipate that sometime in February one will be. I did not express a stance, nor did I disagree with the opinion of the caller.

My stance on the issue? This is a federal legislative problem. I understand the concern on both sides, and my job as a councilperson is to listen to everyone and make a decision based on what I think the will of the majority of those that I represent (Ward 2) is.

As always, I welcome anyone to contact me directly. I can very easily be reached by email (kjenkins@painesville.com) or by phone (289-2703). I won't respond to the blog posts unless I feel that they're inherently wrong, as the one above implied I am "for" illegals.

This is Katie's "mommy", as you call me. I didn't write it and neither did Don. I'm not surprised that someone else piped up in her defense, though.

Yes, it's a big decision. Let's see...should we write a letter to ask for help letting illegal people from Mexico and other countries finish taking over our city and country, or not. Hmmmmm. Big decision.
