"IMMIGRATION DRAFT" PAINESVILLE CITY COUNCIL

This was forwarded to me. Remember this isn't the finished resolution only a draft.

A resolution to support comprehensive immigration reform and urge action from the 113th Congress.

WHEREAS, The United States of America is a land of immigrants, and the migration of people and families from all corners of the world has enriched American culture; and

WHEREAS, The City of Painesville and America have prospered because of the economic and social contributions of hardworking immigrants and their families who have supported our nursery and landscape industry with their hard labor; and,

WHEREAS, The U.S. Congress last enacted major immigration reform legislation more than a quarter-century ago, and immigration reform is currently stalled in the House;and,

WHEREAS, America's current immigration system is outdated, hinders our economy, and does not reflect our local or national values; and

WHEREAS, Immigration is a federal responsibility and solving our broken immigration system would strengthen the City of Painesville in Lake County, Ohio, and increase our economic growth, jump-start housing recovery and reduce the deficit, as well as enabling immigrants to make an even greater contribution to our communities; and

WHEREAS, Becoming a citizen of the United States means taking a solemn oath to uphold our nations Constitution;and,

WHEREAS, Citizenship is an important symbol of full membership and participation in society that should be encouraged; and,

WHEREAS, Broad immigration reform must include a realistic pathway to citizenship for all hardworking, law-abiding, taxpaying, aspiring citizens who live in the United States if they meet reasonable requirements; and.

WHEREAS, An enforcement-only approach is dividing families, and keeping families together reflects American values, and is important for a stable, productive community; and,

WHEREAS, Broad immigration reform must provide a mechanism for aspiring citizens who have grown up in this country, to become citizens and be able to fully contribute to our shared future; and,

WHEREAS, Broad immigration reform must update the legal immigration system so that employment visa policies more realistically match our nation's needs, are structured to guarantee the same rights, obligations, and fairness for U.S. and immigration workers, and provide for the ability for workers to petition for permanent residency; and,

WHEREAS, The federal government must ensure accountability  for enforcement operations, that they remain consistent with the American commitment to family unity, fairness and due process; and

WHEREAS, Broad immigration reform legislation must encourage immigrants to build deeper relationships in their communities and to attain citizenship, which include both responsibilities and rights; and,

WHEREAS, Patchwork attempts to mend the shortcomings and deficiencies of our broken immigration system would undermine our potential for prosperity and leave us ill-prepared to meet the challenges of the modern world, now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PAINESVILLE CITY COUNCIL, That Painesville urges the 113th Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform as outlined in this resolution that provides a reasonable path to citizenship and social integration for workers, family members of U.S. residents, young people raised in this country, and other immigrants whose contributions are critical to the healthy functioning  of our economy and society.

BE IT FURTHER  RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution shall be delivered to the U.S. Speaker of the House, Members of Ohio's Congressional delegation, including Rep. David Joyce, Ohio Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown, President of the Senate, members of the Ohio General Assembly, Governor of the Sate of Ohio.

This is I believe the first draft.

First there was no mention of Border Security? Why not. This would have to be included in this resolution.
There seems a lot of responsibility for legal citizens but what responsibility do the undocumented have?

Please let your council members know what you think.

Lori Dinallo, I'll let you know in person how I feel, but right now I am so angry with you. You are turning your back on the legal citizens who voted you in (because we had no choice since you were up against Arelene). Why this kissing up to Veronica, the veneral disease of our society? You want the latino vote? Well you won't have my vote any more. I'll take Arelene over your betrayal. Or hopefully Renae will run against you and then you won't stand a chance.

First, I don't think DiNallo came up with this on her own. I believe the reason that Dahlberg has been "missing" is so that she could be the person behind this as she tries to pretend not to be.

Second, if Painesville wants to do this horrible thing, and try to speak for all Painesville residents, then they had better bring it to a vote. They have no right to speak for all Painesville residents this way. I, for one, do not in any way agree with these statements.

Third, I think I'll send DiNalla a bill for the home I own in Painesville.

I suppose that a first step has to be taken somewhere but in Painesville?? Really?
I would like to think that our City leaders need to concentrate more on the things that directly involve them and over which they might have some control. Think roads, sewers, AMP, etc.
This is not it.

I guess the attorney general is too small for city council. Think big council go right to Congress.

Talk about fiddling while Rome burns!

Asian Carp, illegal immigrants, what the hell is a family anyway?

Council shame on you! You should all be trying to figure out how to get this city back on it's feet! Have you driven down Main Street?

What a joke this place must to the rest of Lake County!

Saw the Police "training" in the old hotel this morning..... Awesome. Pretty soon they can use whole town.

1:56 The logic of this I don't understand.
12:35 It's easier to do this?
12:28 Any comprehensive immigration policy must include Border Security so thats something V.D. see no need for.
12:10 I do think your alittle harsh on Mrs. DiNallo she was asked by city residents I assume legal and she and many others are trying to find solutions and not complaints. Either way let those on council know your feelings. Lets restrain ourselves from some of this language. And please identify yourself to Mrs. DiNallo.

Term I can't understand why you are not more furious withe Mrs. DiNallo? She rejects any resolution to the Ohio attorney general with her reasoning being that other communities are also involved and we shouldn't speak for them. Now she wants to speak for the whole country?
Look like she cares more about illegal citizens of Painesville then legal citizens like yourself who ask for a resolution?

At December 3, 2013 at 2:24 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The logic? This council could not sign a letter of investigation against AMP. It went to three reading and it failed. The energy policy directly impacts each resident paying utilities here.

The immigration policy is a federal issue. The law stands and it's up to agents to enforce, ICE to enforce laws on the books.

Council is responsible for roads, sewers, utilities etc.
The time wasted on drafting this letter should have been spent drafting ordinances to entice new business to the city.

We have passed resolutions for Asian Carp, tried to define what a family is or is not, defeated the investigation into AMP, and now council is willing to take on immigration? What's next, Obamacare?

Council has run off the rails on the taxpayers dime, again.
Immigrant vote? They're illegal, they cannot vote! Did anybody think of that?

Have to wonder if that lawyer Bentein will represent HOLA at there presentation to council?
Maybe not he's only there to derail resolutions.

What are the rules for recall? Can DiNallo be recalled now? And what happens if she is? How is someone new put into office?

2:24: As far as the Hispanic vote - no, the illegals can't vote, but all their legal friends and families can. So giving away our city and/or country for those votes can be an election-changer. If someone is going to help them get legalized, then all the Hispanics will vote for them. And they want the illegals to be legal, which would then give them the right to vote here.

The most horrifying thing is that these politicians are so stupid, they have no idea that soon, with the help of these same politicians, the Hispanics will have enough votes to sway every election in America, and Hispanics vote for Hispanics. There will be no more non-Hispanics in office in this country very soon. Want to see how that turns out? Go visit Mexico.

If DiNallo wants to sell her soul to people who are citizens of other countries, then let her do it on her own time. She has no right to sell out Americans.

Again, can she be recalled?

If they insist on trying to do this, then this needs to come to a vote of the legal citizens in Painesville, and we had better hope that there are not already enough legal Hispanics to sway the vote.

Millions of Hispanics become eligible to vote every year in the U.S. We are not far away from an actual successful takeover. I have no problem with Hispanic cities and countries, as long as they are in Hispanic countries.

I think we should all slow down. It was specifically stated that the resolution was a draft that was provided to the City, and is up for discussion. This is a discussion. And it was brought to council by a large group of LEGAL residents of the city. Anyone who knows anything about the hispanic/latin community knows if they're here illegally they're keeping their mouths shut. They wouldn't all show up at a council meeting for fear of deportation. Council has to give this request creedence in the say way they gave it to the carp, the Attorney General's letter, chicken, redefining family, etc. These were all at the urging of RESIDENTS

mmm... I wonder what ethnic group you're from? care to reveal that? Let's make sure we don't have too many of "you people" here to avoid the danger of turning into a "German city" of "Irish city" or whatever. I mean, I have no problem with German or Irish cities, as long as they're in Germany and Ireland. lol

Since Horvath and Delamotte (previous council persons) went national with their declaration that Painesville wanted their illegal Mexicans, and turned this into a sanctuary city, the illegals have felt very comfortable speaking out at council meetings. They've done it before and proudly told us how they heard that they would be safe here, so they came here and had children, and now their children are legal citizens and how happy they are here. Painesville has a reputation of being a sanctuary city, and it certainly seems to be, doesn't it? There is even a song that circulates in all the Hispanic countries about Painesville and how illegal Hispanics can be safe here. So once something like that starts, it's pretty impossible to stop it. And now this.

At December 4, 2013 at 12:29 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Veronica is behind this and she is not a resident of Painesville. And legal or not, these people have tons of illegal relatives here and this is to benefit them.

WHY? I remember the flack Mr. Horvath took with his letter. Now how many on council want this? No Way. What can we as residents do to stop this from happening? But without sounding like a racist? BTW I have been called that before because I do not want immigration reform. I've been accused of hating Mexicans because of this. Try to explain to these liberals, no, these people have broken a law and continue to do so daily. Do it the legal way.

Look make your voices known here, but please call council people to.If they don't hear from you they will assume people don't care?

Look the Horvath leeter to than Senator DeWine blew-up in his face, as well as tcouncilwoman DelaMomotte interview on FOXNEWS.
I will admitt this whole issue is a mess but we need to find solutions that will work.
Now asking Congressman Joyce to come and explain his position on the issue to a city council meeting seems quite the reasonable. He's really the only one that could do anything. Maybe Mrs. DiNallo's position in the Republican party could make this happen?

6:14: The reason they try to make us look like racists is so they can shut us up. "Nice" Americans didn't speak up for far too long, and they try to silence us still by using these same tactics. But, as you know, we have the right to fight for our country, and we had better do so now.

You'd be surprised how many liberals agree with you (although I do realize it's the liberals in the government who are trying to give our country away). If everyone spoke out that was against all these people being in our country, we could change it. We have the right, and we can't let them silence us any longer. They only need us to be quiet a little while longer, and they'll have this country.

They keep track of every Latino who is in an elected or appointed position in America. Every one. According to the NALEO website, it is now 6,000, and growing rapidly, as everyone knows.

Mexico is filled with ghost towns. This isn't just "nice people looking to better their families," this is a takeover, and we had better wake up and fight for our country.

DiNallo is a RINO. We all know it. I think that is why you like her, TERM. She's really a Dem at heart. Did anyone else notice that the group in favor of this legislation trooped into the council meeting after the Pledge of Allegiance? Wonder why? Because they don't Pledge to our flag or our country.

10:19 Maybe she just wants a resolution to a problem? Problems solved in an honest and fair way.
Democrats maybe the party of Hope, and your party has become the party of Nope, and Dopes.
It easy to suggest no to everything but really wanting you to solve anything will lead to your partys demise.
So we do nothing one way or the other than what?
I expect your party Congressmen change their tune after the date that someone from the far-right can challenge then in a primary.
Watch and Learn. Presently if it was brought up to a vote of the full house, immigration would pass. But all your leader can do is cry me a river,
6:14 I'm proud to be called a liberal, sorry if it offends you.

If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, some, someone who cares about the welfare of the people- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip our policies abroad, if that what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal"

J.F. Kennedy

I must be one to.

To often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. I let you guess who's quote that is?

1:02 One other quote of his I wish we all would remember.

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie-deliberate,contrived and dishonest-but the myth-persistent,persuasive,and unrealistic.

Let's give 6:14 a break. It IS the Liberals who are trying to give away our country to the illegals. Now the Republicans are somewhat on board, too, since they see that maybe they had better sell out America for votes, too. Both sides need to ban together to save our country, but our politicians are apparently not going to do this, so it is up to the citizens to demand it. We have very little time left before the Latinos can sway every election/issue in this country.

I think it's pretty clear for all to see that Lori DiNallo is no better for this city than former city manager Rita McMahon was. I think her actions show that she has ulterior motives for everything she does. Refusing to send letters; wanting to send letters, etc. She is obviously doing the bidding of other entities, and not the citizens of Painesville in everything that she is doing. And now with this wanting to bid for the illegals, she is not even acting with the best interest of America at heart.

We can't afford to let one more person wreck our city any more than it already is. I think she's got to go.

3:20 Truth be told it was the Conservative business community that gave it away. Where is the Chamber of
Commerce on this issue? They wanted customers and someone to keep labor costs down, sorry.
3:45 She just got re-elected, did you go to the Meet the Candidate Night? If you did you should have asked her. I do agree she is all over the page on what she wants and doesn't.

Honestly, how some of you comment and than fail to leave your names? Either you are ashamed of your thoughts or you don't want people to know how you feel. Look how many of these commenters will show up at a council meeting and tell Mrs. DiNallo or council the way they feel? I at least give Hal, John Music as well as the others to make the case in front of council, the rest of you want something but refuse to make your views public. How sad. Are you really "true" Americans? or what?
Be thankful this site let's you vent and leaves others to see how small some of you are.

Yes I am a TRUE American. Unfortunatly my job will not allow me to say what I feel. I'd love to come to a meeting of my fellow peers that feel the same as I do and then have them go to bat for me and some of my family members that have to be under a gag order. Please publicize any and all meetings that would help my town go up against the illegals.
